Sounds like you're ready to get rid of things that just don't care for any longer. Good for you. Why waste time trying to talk yourself into using something that's old, thin, doesn't feel good, doesn't do anything for your spirit to work with?

I've learned a couple tricks that help me purge and I'm satisfied.

1. Rate your fabric 8,9, or 10. If it's less than an 8 on a scale of 1-10, why keep it? Only exception might be neutrals, which can be hard to get excited about.

2. Don't overthink. Work fast. Do I like it or not? How much? 8,9, or 10? Then keep it. If not, donate it. Someone might be looking for what you're giving away.

I have found that I do not start liking fabrics more with time. Just the opposite. And what do I like better than keeping what I love? Nothing!

Thanks for all your replies, I went back and purged more fabrics I plain don’t like. I’m not a fan of green so it was really easy to get rid of them. I went through all the flowery calicos and thank you so much Sewbizgirl for the picture of your quilt. It’s exactly what I was looking for with the pretty calicos looking great. I think I have a FQ+ of over 50 different calicos that I like in all colors of the rainbow except black. I expect I can make several lap quilts out of my fabrics. I think I will cut my fabrics in 5” charm squares as I’m not a fan of all those 2.5” squares quilts.

When doing scrappy quilts, even fabrics that you no longer love look lovely next to the fabrics that you do love.

After thirty years of quilting and never throwing away scraps, I've done scrap quilts for the last five years. String quilts are wonderful because you can use everything but the kitchen sink but warning: the scrap bin never gets smaller.

I love making scrap quilts and I swear those scraps multiply.

I think scrap quilts can have any style of fabric in them. Using some fabrics with polyester probably won't harm being in the quilt with calicos. Just go for it! Also, string quilts have many styles of fabrics too and look very nice.

Also, I wanted to add that I have been going thru my fabrics and if there was enough yardage I packed it up and gave it to a friend as she makes bibs for nursing home patients. But---if you only have bits and pieces of scraps, there are many options. Good Luck
