GORGEOUS QUILT !!!

rob529 03-21-2011 04:59 PM

I think I would do the border primarily black at least but whatever you choose it will be right. The choices you have made on this quilt already are gorgeous. Just audition for a few days on each choice if you can. See how they each strike you when leave and re-enter the room for a few days.

I thought this also, maybe make a pieced binding.

Try several different varieties of borders, and audition them, before committing to one. Love double and triple borders, adds a look of strength and stability to scrappy quilts, in my view.

I agree with this- take one or two colors out of the quilt with a little black or dark grey. It is so amazing how three dimensional it looks. It is a very nice quilt, thanks for sharing.

I'd use a black three inch border. It would really pop the colors.

Oh, yes, I think a black border is all that is needed to frame this gorgeous quilt.

Did you have to be careful as to how you placed the color strips to get the 3D effect or does it just work out? This quilt was love at first sight for me. Thanks!

I would use black so nothing distracts from the beautiful top.

LadyCougar 03-21-2011 05:39 PM

I like the black border idea - it would make the colors pop.

Nettie Phillips 03-21-2011 05:43 PM

I don't know what to use for the border but that is just
gorgeous.

Annz 03-21-2011 06:29 PM

I personally would look for a color in the blocks which shows the least and I would do a two inch border in that color or a color that is not too close to the border that would be striking.

Neena 03-21-2011 06:35 PM

I like the gray border idea; then bind pull out one of the colors to bind it with. Nice quilt!

abc123retired 03-21-2011 06:37 PM

Black border.

I totally agree...and the quilt is lovely. The jewel tones are fabulous!

Oops...accidently hit send twice. Sorry.

franie 03-21-2011 06:39 PM

Black would work but does not need a border. Beautiful!

Rettie V. Grama 03-21-2011 06:45 PM

I would use a plain black border 3 to 4 inches wide.

Grandma Peg 03-21-2011 07:11 PM

Love your quilt.

lclang 03-21-2011 07:45 PM

Black border and piano key outer border. Can piece the piano key border on adding machine tape (3 inch) or if you want it wider piece on newsprint or telephone book pages.Love the colors!

Prairie Quilter 03-21-2011 07:54 PM

Your quilt is going to be drop-dead gorgeous!! I would use a very dark border to frame all those lovely string blocks!

quilterjeri 03-21-2011 08:22 PM

this sounds like a wonderful solution for a beautiful quilt! You did a fabulous job.

This is absolutely beautiful!!!

Dotsie 03-21-2011 08:43 PM

I always like a frame and suggest one of the brightest colors like red.

luvTooQuilt 03-21-2011 08:45 PM

piano keys would look nice.. or even 2x2 square borders to 'outline it'

Quiltaddict 03-21-2011 08:48 PM

I think a black would frame the quilt beautifully which such a beautiful quilt deserves.

Should I just add a black border and keep it simple or I was thinking of taking the strings and going around the top to follow the color wheel or does anyone have a different option?

I think the black. That is a beautiful quilt. Maybe as someone suggested earlier some prairie points or would that be just too much? It is going to be beautiful whqatever you do.

O.k. you lost me on this one. I understand the piano keys and black border but not the other three. Just what is the adding machine tape or newsprint or telephone book pages? Gerbie

grammysharon 03-21-2011 09:24 PM

I would use a solid color border, maybe black or navy blue?

Janquiltz 03-21-2011 09:58 PM

Narrow black border and scrappy binding that has same colors as quilt.

auntpatty 03-21-2011 11:38 PM

I think the black border in black would be great. It would set off the center wonderfully.

TracyRenea 03-22-2011 02:20 AM

WOW! It is already stunning. I am sure how ever you decide to finish this beauty it will be extraordinaire.

Millstream Mom 03-22-2011 02:48 AM

Absolutely spectacular quilt! It's like looking at a collection of gemstones.

Beautiful! Thank you for posting!

betsey 03-22-2011 04:01 AM

Wow! Beautiful jewel tones. A black or dark grey will frame this beautifully. I feel adding more color would detract from the quilt body. Stunning.

Drew 03-22-2011 04:35 AM

I would do a black border. Looks Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!

lass 03-22-2011 04:39 AM

Black

julia58 03-22-2011 05:20 AM

Beautiful quilt

K.P. 03-22-2011 06:11 AM

I think a narrow black/dark border to stop the action of the quilt blocks, then if you want a scrappy border, use piano keys border with all the colors in the quilt and maybe add a black key now and them to touch the narrow black border, it would be stunning; beautiful so far!

NorBanaquilts 03-22-2011 07:14 AM

If the pattern has a name I'm not sure what it is. I didn't use a pattern, I just did up and drawing and started sewing.

Actually the planning was quite easy. The black is also scraps and they were cut at 1" to finish at .5" The center is 60" x 72"

The sewing of the blocks was totally random. If the strip I pulled was long enough to fit I used it. The 3D look just happened.
