I am looking for a sewing table and need your honest opinions on the SewEzi Sewing Table. I have a small sewing space, but am also looking for portability, especially between rooms in a small house. Does it shake as you sew? Will it last a long, long time? Thank you for your replies.

Was also thinking of getting one - will be watching to see what other people have to say

annieshane 05-21-2011 12:04 PM

I like the table; ;however, wonder what shipping/handling would add to this cost. I would think some place like local fabric stores might have something similar if you can wait until good sale or online sales that offer free shipping for this price item. Just MHO. Do like to portability features.

amma 05-21-2011 12:04 PM

I have a portable table, different from this one. It is very sturdy and doesn't shake when I sew.It has two single legs on one end, and one leg on the other that is made of two tubes welded together, that split apart towards the bottom.
I picked it up at the Goodwill for $10 :D:D:D

karenpatrick 05-21-2011 12:08 PM

You can get a better one than that for a lot less. I paid $125 and got free shipping but i can't remember where I bought it but I have seen the same table in all the quilting catalogs and I get them all. I know I've seen it in the Nancy's Notions catalog. It's very portable, doesn't wobble and I think was worth every penny.
do a search at
Nancy's Notions for sewing tables and it's the in the first row, far right. It's the one I have and I really like it and it's half the price of the sew ezi,

raedar63 05-21-2011 12:15 PM

What about the one Leah day uses, She also sells them on her sits. She often has them on sale for 129.00 with free shipping.

quiltingdoe 05-21-2011 12:23 PM

Thank you for your quick replies. I live on The Big Island of Hawaii. We do not have Michael's or Joann's. We only have limited fabric stores.

Karenpatrick-I did check out Nancy's Notions, but that table is pressboard. Unfortunately, pressbboard doesn't stand up well in the tropics! Thank you for the reply.

raedar63-How can I see the table you referred to by Leah Day?

pjustice63 05-21-2011 12:25 PM

Love my Sew Ezi but shipping would probably be prohibitive. Got it Paducah w/ free shipping.
Love the wheels and the fact that it will accomodate lots of different machines. Also had templates for other machines cut at local glass store.

lots2do 05-21-2011 12:27 PM

I think the table that Leah Day sells on her site is the same as the one at Nancy's Notions. It's the Arrow table and you can find them at a lot of places. I have it. I thought it wasn't a good table until I discovered that I didn't have a metal clip clipped down completely in place. Google Leah Day and you'll find her site.

LivelyLady 05-21-2011 12:32 PM

If you can't locate one on the islands, how about a small wooden table (many times found at yard sales). I bought one and had my husband cut the hole so my machine is flush with the table. Eleanor Burns has a video on her site showing how to make this. The only problem being it would not be portable. :)

Stitchnripper 05-21-2011 12:48 PM

I have a very similar one. I think it is by Arrow and I ordered from AllBrands and it was sent to my house. It was much cheaper if I remember correctly.

zipit 05-21-2011 12:50 PM

I love this little table. If you have a quilt show they normally offer free shipping if you buy then.

SweetSlumber 05-21-2011 02:19 PM

I don't have one, but a friend does, and she loves it!

BellaBoo 05-21-2011 05:45 PM

I have one with different insets. I have gotten my money's worth out of it too. I go to a lot of workshops and classes and enjoy having my own table space. Also when I go stay with my DDs I have an instant sewing space in the guest room. It's great for travel, fits perfecly in my car's trunk. It was $129 when I bought it just a few years ago at Paducah quilt show.

AliKat 05-21-2011 10:28 PM

Another option would be to purchase 1 or 2 Lifetime adjustable height tables, the size of 24 inches x 17-18 inches. Office Max, Staples, sometimes Costco, and such will put them on sale. I got my first one on sale for about $14 ... the price has gone up to about $19 on sale. I take these with me when I am working out of town. One for my machine and one for the extra fabric if needed.

wow, the tables are adjustable???

I have one for the RV and just love it!!! It is so nice to sew on it instead of a TV tray type thing I was using. When we are not on the road, it sits in the sewing room with the embroidery machine on it. Works great. The Bernina Store here carries them.

wishfulthinking 05-22-2011 05:47 AM

I have the little table that Leah Day sells and love it! Of course, it isn't as portable as the one you are looking at.

GreatStarter 05-22-2011 11:59 AM

I don't have the one you asked about, however I know a lady with one. She adores it. She takes it with her to workshops/classes etc. You can buy different insets for different machines. While it is pricy, it would hold up to the weather in Hawaii. It folds up small, fits great in special carry case, and you could move it around your small home easily I think. Hers appears to be extremely sturdy, and it didn't shake at all.
As far as price, you would really need to search for best shipping. Ask at the few quilt shops there are if they have any customers with one? Contact them for info? And as another poster mentioned you can get local shop to cut the different size insets you might need if you own more than one machine.
I would love one, but it's definitely not in my budget. I can dream...
Kat

Bell-Boo--What is the SewEzi table made of? Is it plastic or wood?

I'm trying to select the best option as I plan to use it a long time.

Thanks for all replies so far.

CorgiNole 05-24-2011 10:30 AM

I haven't seen a Sew Ezi -

Harriet Hargrave recommends the Safco Folding Computer table:

http://www.amazon.com/Safco-1935GR-F...=29S9L9P21R5EV

Which is about half the price and also portable. So I'm considering that for a future purchase.

Cheers, K

Jingle 05-24-2011 10:57 AM

I bought a much sturdier table like this from Leah Day Designs for $249.00 W/Free shipping, got it in a few days. Google her name and see what she has.

Bevsie 05-25-2011 06:49 PM

Hi,

I have a Sew EZ table and I love it! Easy to haul to a camp or a class, but most of all I use it in my travel trailer! I also have a sunroom attached to my trailer and it works perfect in there, right height to sew and have my sewing space without taking up the dining table.
I sure love mine.
Bev

I am still thinking of having the hubby drill through my folding 6ft table and put a board underneath with bolts to support my machine instead of buying another table altogether:) Everyone is different though!

RonieM 01-03-2013 11:18 AM

I LOVE my SewEzi table. I have had it for several years now and take it with me to several retreats and sew-ins every year. I can put the pedal to metal and the table does not shake. I also have several machines and they can all be used with that table - just need the right insert. I saved myself some $$ on the insert and found a local guy to make them for me for a fraction of the cost.

Chiclet 01-03-2013 01:42 PM

I just checked out the Lifetime Adjustable tables at buylifetime.com and they have one that looks very portable - 30" x 20" top and height adjustable - folds right up and only costs $50!

quiltingcandy 01-03-2013 02:46 PM

I have the Sew-Ezi table and love it. I got it for my Viking Topaz 20 - the insert for machine came with the table and I bought the board to close the opening and put the machine on top for when I use the embroidery attachment. The table is very sturdy. It is made from wood with a laminated top. Do you have a LQS that you can talk with? Maybe they can order it retail. But then there isn't the custom to your machine insert which which is included in the $249.00, and it has wheels, and a custom cover to protect it when you put it away or take it with you. It is not light weight. It said the shipping is on top of it for up to $35.00 - so not sure if it would go up for Hawaii, it wasn't noted. Also, they only mention sales tax for California. So maybe that would be a savings to you too.

sweetana3 01-03-2013 03:05 PM

I could have purchased anything but when I visited the vendor booth for Sewezi to sit at it and try it out, I was sold. It is light enough to really be portable. Slick so my tops slide across the top. The insert is easy on and off with enough room underneath to reach my bobbin. I have two inserts and use a heavy book to raise the Featherweight to the right height rather than taking the shelf on and off.

It does not shake, has saved my neck and arms, is easy to move around my room, etc.

It was expensive but so much more versatile to me than a fixed and heavy cabinet. None of the others met my needs. I sew on this stand every day.

Silver Needle 01-03-2013 07:54 PM

Almost all the women in one of my sewing groups have this table, they purchased multiple inserts so they could travel with different machines. If I had the $ I would get one with inserts for my featherweight and 301 just to take to class.

Just checked Target.com and this table (presumable the same one) is $33 plus tax/shipping. For me, that makes it about $46.

Right now, I have my Featherweight sitting on my Horn cabinet that houses my Husqvarna machine. It's doable, but it's in the way when I want to use both machines (I don't have a walking foot for the Featherweight, so any quilting needs to be done on the other machine). I would love to have something like the Sew-Ezi but I just can justify the price. Since I only use the Featherweight for piecing, it doesn't have to be sitting flush with the table top.

So I will probably get this one and give it a try.

quiltstringz 04-24-2013 06:49 AM

Welll I don't know about shipping - but I do have a SewEzi table and am very happy with it. It is sturdy, doesn't shake and for what it is worth when we unpacked it (my husband was there) and I had to confess to what the price was he said it was well made and worth it.

quiltstringz 04-24-2013 06:50 AM

I forgot to ask - do you have a large Quilt show, maybe they come to that - doesn't hurt to ask and then you could get one without the shipping cost???

Silvia75 04-24-2013 08:01 AM

I bought an Arrow Gidget Sewing table for about $130.00 last year. I think this is one that Leah Day markets. Big mistake. As soon as I put it together I realized the hole for my mid-size sewing machine was too small and it shook like an earthquake was going on when I tried to sew on it. Needless to say, it went right back to the store. I believe you get what you pay for. I'm going to try to save up enough to get a better quality table.
The Sew-Ezi looks much better because the 4 legs seem placed to support the table better, less chance of shaking?

mom-6 04-25-2013 08:36 PM

I'm currently using a school desk that I got at a yard sale for $15. It most likely originally came from an auction where the fellow bought a "lot" of discontinued desks. It has a Formica top and a shelf all the way across underneath that would likely be the right depth for inserting your machine to get a totally flat work surface. I have an old cabinet model machine positioned beside the desk for extended work surface of approximately the same height. The desk is easy to move but does not fold up for true portability.
Gives you another avenue to explore if you think this might work for your purposes.

petthefabric 04-25-2013 11:20 PM

I have the SewEzi table and love it. Usually I take it to sew at other locations as it's very portable. It doesn't shake. It's not made of wood.

charsuewilson 04-25-2013 11:22 PM

I have one of the folding tables from Sam's Club with adjustable height. It shakes very badly when I try to sew on it. I ended up buying a wooden desk to sew on. Of course that's not really portable. The people I know who have the Sew Ezi really love it. It doesn't shake. Several people have said that they bought it at the end of a quilt show when the business displaying it didn't want to take it back to their shop, so they got a good price.

Teeler 04-26-2013 10:47 AM

"Gidget II" is what Leah Day said she had in one of her videos.

I just looked at the one at Target, which has ironing board type legs, is that the one you have? It doesn't look like there would be room for your legs under it.

petthefabric 04-26-2013 08:53 PM

I also have Lifetime tables. The legs do look something like ironing board legs, although they are offset toward one side of the table. My legs (& I have long legs) fit just fine at the 24" height. The advantagle of the SewEzi table is the the surface of the table is even with the surface of the machine, making the whole table the sewing space. With the Lifetime table, the machine extension is the sewing space. Most acrylic machine extension tables will not fit on top of the Lifetime table. The SewEzi table is more stable, less movement. Another advantage is one of the inserts is clear solid and can be used as a light table. The Lifetime table is a very good size for cutting mat and/or iron mat. I also use them as extra table for a gathering of people to have small table by their chair.

kim_s 04-26-2013 09:31 PM

I just purchased the sewEzi table. I live in so cal and paid $25 for shipping but I did receive it the day after it shipped - so very fast shipping. Unfortunately I had to pay CA sales tax but I am really happy with this table. It is very portable. I can easily move it from room to room. I put it up against the edge of my dining room table - it's not flush but its fine. It is just so wonderful to have a flat surface to sew on. And it does not shake and seems pretty darn sturdy. I purchased it with the insert for a Janome 6600 (and nothing else) but am seriously considering purchasing an additional insert for my little Janome (AQS 2009). I am extremely happy with it and highly recommend if you can afford it.
