Chicken and waffles and then back to my sewing!

Airwick156 08-31-2011 01:32 PM

Okay I'm probably strange....What is the connection between waffles and fried chicken? Is it because you only eat one meal a day and have to throw breakfast and dinner both into the same meal? I'm in Oregon and I don't think people eat fried chicken and waffles at the same meal...but then again maybe they do....hmmmmmmm

I've not done chicken and waffles either. Is this really the breakfast waffles, or something else. Chicken and waffle fries sounds good.

New Quilter 08-31-2011 01:39 PM

My Mom loves chicken in gravy over waffles or biscuits...it isn't fried though...Naomi

Jammin' Jane 08-31-2011 01:39 PM

Or maybe you're being proactive!!
Have fun sewing! :)

gunny148 08-31-2011 01:40 PM

Should try shrimp and grits, or catfish and grits.

whinnytoo 08-31-2011 01:42 PM

I like chicken and noodles! maybe its similar?

Barb44 08-31-2011 01:43 PM

Haven't tried chicken and waffles, but chicken and biscuits is one of my favorite comfort foods. DH loves waffles. Will have to make him chicken and waffles sometime (when the weather cools down.)

jljack 08-31-2011 01:50 PM

The waffles aren't sweet like for breakfast...more biscuity. I've had them, and yes, they are Southern traditional food! Yummy!!

MellieKQuilter 08-31-2011 02:01 PM

I have always wondered about this.. and what it would taste like?

I have dinner making duties off on Wednesday (leftover day) SO... it is on the treadmill and back to sewing a purse for my daughter. Hopefully I will get it done tonight!

marscrafter 08-31-2011 03:48 PM

Have fun creating after dinner! That's my favorite time to work on stuff too.

Fry the chicken, we prefer boneless, skinless chicken breast.

Fire up the waffle iron, melt butter, bring on the syrup. Put it all together on the plate, bite of buttery, syrup and waffle, bite of chicken. Wash down with black coffee. Yummy.

SharBear 08-31-2011 05:38 PM

I gotta say that when I travel south of the Mason Dixon line my favorite breakfast is biscuits and gravy. I've even had "true" chicken and dumplings. But have not tried chicken and gravy over waffles. I'm traveling in two weeks to Virginia ... mmmm might have to see what I can find!

blueangel 08-31-2011 06:25 PM

Don't think I would like the combination.

watson's mom 08-31-2011 08:31 PM

I am trying to lose weight and then I read this. Now I am soooo hungry. Thanks a lot you guys. LOL

BellaBoo 08-31-2011 08:42 PM

Born and raised in the woods of the south I was taught how to make any food taste good by having excellent gravy as a side.
White gravy is for breakfast meals and brown gravy is for supper meals. Chicken gravy is made with pieces of chicken skin battered, fried golden brown and crispy, chopped up and added to the brown gravy. White gravy, has crumbles of sausage or bacon mixed in. Always made in big cast iron skillet.

My sweet man had never had breakfast gravy until he moved to indiana. He's from Pa and his parent were born and raised there. He's never had dumplings either, or sugar cream pie. I tell you he lived a sheltered life. But on the flip side, I'd never had pigs in a blanket(yuk hate cabbage) or some ravioli dish with mash potato inside instead of meat, YUK. Now I'm gonna try the chicken and gravy. You can put gravy on cardboard and its good! Gravy is good on everything! I used to make chocolate gravy!MMMM!

Linda1 09-01-2011 03:21 AM

I've never had chicken and waffles but I sew almost every night after dinner. My husband gets on the computer and I go in my sewing room. I love my husband but with both of us retired I definitely need to go to separate rooms after a while.

LindaM49 09-01-2011 03:27 AM

OMG...we LOVE chicken and waffles. It's a PA Dutch/German thing. No syrup on this...just delicious chicken gravy. My mother used to make this...comfort food...all of the time with leftover chicken.

I have to admit that I get lazy and have used frozen waffles. It's still good but not as good as right off the waffle iron.

If you go to Lancaster County in PA a lot of places serve it.

As far as breakfast gravy...I don't like sausage gravy but then I'm not a big sausage lover. But I do love creamed dried beef over toast. I can eat that for breakfast, lunch or dinner. YUM!

I like sausage gravy over waffles. I used to anyway. I have been diagnosed with Diabetes. There goes my waffle, pancake, pasta and potato days!

Oh, I can have a small amount at a meal, but I love my starches! Oh, yeah, Ice Cream is limited too! HORRORS! LOL

Ahhh, I knew there was a gravy rule out there somewhere, lol.

strange topic!!!

Pam Riggs 09-01-2011 05:05 AM

My husband is an over the road truck driver and while in California he ate chicken and waffles. I fixed it when he got home for the family and everyone loved it. It didn't sound good but I also know that it is big in the south. Gotta try it! :D

blondeslave 09-01-2011 05:17 AM

Just reading this is putting me in a carb coma.

a1crafter 09-01-2011 05:24 AM

My mom used to make chocolate gravy, but never told me how she made it. Would you post the recipe/directions for making chocolate gravy?

Does being from Oregon preclude eating a treat at any time of the day you want it? There is nothing better than fried chicken with honey and if you want to eat a waffle with it, that is certainly your choice. No food police any more than quilt police! froggyintexas

I'm from Canada and I've wondered this also.

I do.

I dare say I have never ever made a cream gravy. It is a white sauce? Milk, butter and flour type of thing? It really sounds good.
