This is along the lines of what I use. Rather than file cabinets, I got "assembly required" book cases - or cabinets, as they have doors - at Lowes. About $40 each. They face so the doors are at each end. Topped w/ a 2' x 4' piece of wood DH cut a hole in, shelf below, so machine bed is even with top wood.

I find these better for storage than file cabinets, the shelving is more user-friendly for me. The downside is that you have to be sure to have access to both ends so that you can get into them, rather than just opening from the front.

The unit has a 2" - 3" space at the bottom that can be trimmed down, leaving just enough room for the doors to open easily, if you need to adjust the height.

This is the cabinet I have. In fact I have 2 but one is at my daughters. I have also had 2 friend buy it. We are all pleased with it. Mine was $99.00 less the machine. I have had mine for about 7 years and I left it at my daughters. The one I now have I have had for 5 years.

HINT HINT...Do you want it to fit into a corner? My sewing table does and it's the only way I want it. My table is deep and wide so I can store lots of necessay "equipment" on the table and it doesn't get in the way of the sewing. Storage is nice too but you really want the sewing surface. Good luck and let us know what you bought!

I would prefer a cabinet that has a drop down platform for the sewing machine. It's worth the money.
My first sewing table was a computer table with a corner shape and it had a lower inset in front of the inner angle where my sewing machine fit perfectly. Maybe you can find something like that. Mine cost all of $100!

The table at both Walmart and Joanns seem very reasonable. The only thing I would like to add is this: If you plan on doing free motion quilting both of these tables would be very limiting, especially for a large king or queen quilt. I will try to post a picture here of the table I made for quilting. It was easy and cheap to make and works wonderfully. I do have one of the tables from Joann's, it isn't as nice as the one you are looking at. I have had it for 3 years and use it for one of my embroidery machines. I think I paid $99 and it has held up great so I think there quality is very good for the price.

Good luck with your table, if anyone is interested in how I made my quilt table let me know.

Hugs, Gail

I bought one at Walmart to use as an extra space to teach. It's still going great (5 years)

Gail, did you use the foam board like they have at Lowes to fit around your machine? It looks like one I saw, and the lady also had a fold up table from Sams, with the foam board on top, cut to fit around her machine.
