I got all my cabinets except one from yard sales for very little money. I like my machines to sit in the cabinet. As my machines grew my DS or DH cut the hole bigger. Good luck with your search.

Lindy - I've been thinking of moving mine around so I could use more than just the floor space under the extension (I do have a storage cart on one side. I love your use of space!!!

Thanks. I don't use the cutting table because I have a taller one that allows me to stand straight. I just could not stand to have all that wasted space. I found the cubes at Craft Warehouse.

I have built ins but my friends husband bought her one similar to yours and she hates it. She said there is too much wasted space underneath and she doesn't like the machine on top.

I have a Koala, and for the price I paid for it, you'd think they could have provided more than two measly drawers in the thing. It has a flip up back for support when you are quilting a large quilt, but where they placed the lifter for the machine is all wrong, and less than half of the flip up back can be used to hold the quilt if you keep the machine on the lifter! If I had it to do again, I would do as 'All Thumbs' suggested and buy two sturdy church like long tables, put them back to back and then buy a small cabinet to go under for all the things you need when you sew, like needles, pins, scissors etc,etc, etc. When you're not quilting, you can place your machine, and your serger on the table side by side and really go to town!
Koala is only make of that fiber board stuff anyway. Not worth it.

If the cabinet is made so that your machine drops down and is level with the cabinet surface, do check to see if your machine will fit. Many years ago I bought a Bernina and matching cabinet. When I replaced the Bernina with another Bernina I naturally thought it would fit in the Bernina cabinet. Uh, uh. I ended up having to have part of the removable part of the table top sawn to fit the new machine.

I don't mind using my machine on a desktop rather than dropped into a cabinet. I had Mother and Daddy's kitchen table for years but left it behind when we downsized. I still miss it because it was the most perfect workspace I have had. Now I use my extra computer desk (no hutch). I had a glass top cut to fit it so I won't scratch the desk. It has worked perfectly and I am happy I am no longer 'wasting' it.

I was going on what money I had available and was/am willing to work around having the machine on top. My husband and his friend are crafty and can figure that problem out, if need be. I'm just happy to have a table specifically for my sewing.
