now what fun is it if you don't have reasons to pul your hair out ;)

BarbaraSue 10-06-2011 08:17 AM

and yet with all these "rules" that we break, we quilters try to say that quilting is relaxing to us, or gives us calm from the daily stresses.
Who are we kidding? To read all these you sure wouldn't think it is stress relief!! hehehehe

QuiltnLady1 10-06-2011 08:31 AM

Thanks for the chuckles -- unfortunately I was not laughing when I did many of these. Here are a few more:

Thou shalt not wash water soluble fusible batting before it is in the quilt.

Thou shalt not iron wrinkles out of fusible batting without an applique sheet on BOTH sides.

Thou shalt not leave the blade of the rotary cutter sticking out when sweeping threads off of the cutting mat around the rotary cutter.

Thou shalt not use your finger to clean the lint from off of the edge of the rotary cutter.

And not to the bottom of the iron.

I have that same machine. Why would a company make such a dumb machine. Is there anyone out there who knows how to change the default and keep that needle in the center?

Thou shall not lay loose straight pins on the quilt top while pinning on boarders lest ye forget and flip the quilt top to straighten out wrinkles. It maketh a beautiful tinkling sound as the pins fly towards the heavens and then scatter on the floor, but maketh it hard to move about when you are barefoot.

Did this last night!!!

babyfireo4 10-06-2011 09:23 AM

Thou shalt finish one project before beginning another! Think I broke that one after the second quilt ;) Not one on the list so far that I haven't broken! glad to be in such good company!

Why???? Can't I cut out several and then see how many I mis-piece because I got the fabrics mixed??

Nanaquilts44 10-06-2011 11:04 AM

Oh my goodness I thought I was the only one!

Is overspending on quilting supplies a sin?
Leaving cut scraps all over the floor for days?
Printing out every pattern you see on the web?
Staying on the board for hours when less important things are calling to be done, like clean the house.

Sounds like me too. Are we twins??? Roberta Marie

Rose Marie 10-06-2011 01:37 PM

We do look a lot a like.

madamekelly 10-06-2011 02:11 PM

Thou shalt not think "I will just trim these edges, and finish in the morning." thou shalt just go to bed. Evidently I can't run a ruler when I am tired. I had to do the project all over again...

Time out was a good call! And thanks for the laughs, been there and have done it all.

Rhonda Lee 10-06-2011 02:27 PM

Thou must know when to stop. Thou must not get into the too's. Too tired, too hungrey, too much of a hurry, etc.

tumrub 10-06-2011 02:29 PM

Please let us all go on breaking these commandments but prey that we don't break the other ones.

twixbar 10-06-2011 02:52 PM

PieceandLuv 10-06-2011 03:47 PM

laughing this is all so true and great for a good laugh............at ourselves.......

GingerK 10-06-2011 04:53 PM

Oh to be in such good company--it is a blessing!

When contemplating a project thou shouldest put purchased fabric and pattern in a bag, lest thou forget and use too much of the focus fabric on a different project--never to be able to purchase more.

dublb 10-06-2011 05:14 PM

Thou shall not press with the Press-N-Cut board in your lap while watching a movie...If you do...Thou shall not set the iron on it...If you do Thou SHALL not tilt said board so that the iron lands on your left hand! I did this Sunday!

dublb 10-06-2011 05:18 PM

I also wanted to say Thank You so much for the laugh today! I've done almost all of these!

CraftyCricket 10-06-2011 05:41 PM

LOL Love #4. I've broken way to many needles the last couple months because I didn't change my foot.

craftyneedle 10-06-2011 05:48 PM

About the thread pulling out of the needle, I had been sewing for many years (and pulling a long thread out so it wouldn't pull out). One day I was looking up something in the manual and lo and behold! I found that if you Keep the take-up bar at the top, it will not pull the thread out when you start sewing! Now when I finish a seam, I just hold the thread and make sure the take-up bar is at the top. So simple I had missed it all those years.

Grambi 10-06-2011 07:21 PM

Well, the up side is, if you don't have thread in the bobbin or the needle, you can't end up with nests or eyelashes when quilting. :):):)

Also not a bad idea to check yourself over when you see that the company is arriving! Friends came over yesterday for dinner. My husband pulled one thread off of me, and the wife of the company couple pulled another one!

Thanks for the laughs...

Yes, I've done all of these, with the exception of ironing in my lap!

yep she would lick her finger and touch it, ssst (yep I like to hear it too, even if I can hear the steam, still have to touch the dang thing)

What machine are you talking about? All of the machines that I have all have the needle in the center of the plate.

Thou shalt share your addiction. Imagine if we could send this kind of community into the real world.

This is the biggest one of all! THOU SHALT IGNORE ALL QUILT POLICE!

DebJ 10-06-2011 09:21 PM

This thread was a hoot to read, really did lol. Glad he was in bed far enough away to not disturb. Was so funny I had to read every page, except 8, it wouldn't load for some reason. Unless it does when I post this. Stay safe now. Watch out for all those sharp things but have fun quilting too.

Ummmm I give up how many?? Oh not a quizz! If it's me then the answer is infinite. I can do just that for hours at a time. Keeps the rest of the family amused listening to me yell at the fabric. Like it's to blame.

Well of course it's to blame--it reaches out to pull a friend close!

Sierra 10-07-2011 06:01 AM

Last night I found a new one: Do not begin sewing until you put the bobbin cover on. Oh well, I got to do another.... clean your machine regularly. Agggggghhhhhh.....

trrmite 10-07-2011 10:23 AM

After reading pages, as beginner does this means after breaking all the rules I can call myself a quilter? if so I am on the right road and with the right group. Thanks for letting me join. And yes I read some of the treads to my Dh. His answer "I don't understand"

dltaylor 10-07-2011 10:26 AM

you are too funny!!
