Hell everyone,
I am very sad My Singer 4166 is frozen on me and I can not for the life of me figure out what is wrong with it. It won't sew anything the feed dogs won't even move. The red light will not turn off. I still have the instruction book there are NO troubleshotting tips. I took it appart and cleaned it out but it was empty. I am so confused any ideas anyone please. I have so many swaps to get done soon, I really need my machine to be able too. :( PLEASE I am begging/Crying out loud for HELP! Thanks! When my machines do that it means the the thread got all tangled up in the bobbin area, but since you said you cleaned that all out, I can't think what else it might be. Does your knob on the right (the one that manually moves your needle up and down) move?
I was at a quilt retreat with a friend once and her machine acted like that. We did everything and then I noticed that she had the bobbin pin on top pushed over as if she were going to wind a bobbin. We moved it back in the right postition and her machine sewed like a dream. Hope this helps.

I had a similar issue and the thread was wound around the wheel. It accidently was caught in there from the thread stand.
If it has computer parts, turn it off and turn it back on.
Is the needle lever down? Maybe it doesn't work with it UP.
Unplug it and plug back in. Check the knob on the right...(I forget what it's called) |
One of my Juki TL98QE did this, nothing worked but the light, had to take it for a repair and cleaning, just needed some ajusting and cleaning and oiling where I couldn't reach. Didn't need any parts and had worked perfectly the night before.
Let us know if any of the above worked. Sorry and I hope there is a simple solution.
Try hitting the reverse button. sometimes mine sticks. It makes a beeping sound and flashes it's lights. Drives me crazy.

Does it sew with a foot control on the floor? Unplug that and replug it in making sure it is in securely. What does it say under the red light? I can't make it out.
I noticed you said you had a manual, but no instructions on your problem. Sometimes if you get on line you can ask for the manual on your particular machine and maybe....just maybe there will be an answer in that on line manual...lots of luck
You can also call the 800# in the manual if there is one. Sometimes speaking to someone can help. That is one of the reasons you asked us. Good luck.
ok have to ask as this happened to me, check that it is plugged in. Yep mine quit right in the middle of a seam, turned out the plug worked loose, color my face red when I took in to be repaired months later after I had saved up for the repaires! LOL

Have you rethreaded it?
Hey Ash, first take a deep breath, both in and out.
Turn off at machine and wall plug. Take every cord out, and then replug them.Rethread the machine, and change the bobbin. Sometimes my Singer stops because the (plastic)bobbin has a small nick in it, another time I didn't plug the foot pedal in properly, and yet another it overheated on an extremely hot day, after about 20 mins of sewing. Hope this help. |

Did you check the outlet to see if it is working?

Where did you purchasr the machine? Maybe call a sewing machine store and talk to a tech.
Since your machine is computerized, do you have anything magnetic within the machine area? Maybe the magent is making it go haywire. Otherwise everything the others mentioned I would have suggested. Good luck. |
Did an error number come up in the screen? You might check that if it does, then that number should be in your book. What ever you do, don't go to fixya.com. I got a virus there one time.
May have jumpped timing.
Check on the Singer site for a dealer or authorized repair center and get the number and call them oir email Singer with the problem.
Is this why we keep our old machines that aren't computerized?
The only other thing I can think to try would be to move the speed lever all the way to fast then back down to your comfortable sewing speed.
Good luck. |
Aully, your machine needs to be oiled. Have you done so recently? If not, it might be frozen....not a good thing.
Good luck...how frustrating not to be able to sew when you want to. |
Did you hit a pin while sewing? I have done that before and it ruins the timing. You might want to take it to someone that works on sewing machines. My friend is a Pfaff dealer but he works on many different machines. Takes out all the guess work.
I would suggest that you call Singer customer service. They are extremely helpful with answers and lots of patience. Their number (800) should be in your manual.
