One of the last times I took my mother to doctor's before her death from Alzheimer's/kidney failure, I put in a cd of Andy Griffith's gospel music. Mother had not known who I was for over a year and was not able to hold a conversation. But when that music came on, she began singing the songs perfectly, remembering every word. I joined in and we sang our way across Houston's afternoon rush hour. I didn't care how long it took because it was such a blessed time. Six months later I lost both her and my husband within 9 days of each other. But I will always remember that blessed afternoon.
Thank you to you and all the other gospel singers!

Joset 03-14-2011 05:56 PM

spring summer and fall i have my outdoor hobbies. which include my yard and flowers and my three gardens. then in winter i quilt and i love to read.

Highmtn 03-14-2011 05:58 PM

I grow African Violets, orchids, do some stamping, love to cook ethnic foods, and I have run a private rescue for dogs from my home.

In summer..my quilting/sewing slows down and I tend my flower gardens and feed the native birds which I adore too.

Read, sew, quilt, bake bread, crochet (13 afghans made for last Christmas), knit "Nebraska" stocking caps for the babies at the local hospital (1500 so far). Also enjoy making small projects with cloth and paper, such as quilted postcards, table runners, etc.

lnikkers52 03-14-2011 06:05 PM

I honestly get tired of quilting from time to time. and then I crochet, read, punch embroidery, needlepoint, Just different stuff to keep busy

LaurieE 03-14-2011 06:56 PM

knitting, crocheting, spin wool, gardening, Civil War civilian reenactor, and genealogy. I am also really interested in making items from vintage patterns - mostly 19th century, some early 20th century. They can certainly be a challenge sometimes, though.

Have been doing counted cross stitich & crocheting for over 20 yrs. I decided to try something new and just finished my beginner's quilt class and first lap quilt. Loved the class I took and quilt I made & now I think I've got a new love "QUILTING"

ohhhhhhhhhhnooooooooooooo, I don't need to know there is any such thing as a freecell hand held game. If I'm on the computer, I've got a freecell game up.

A few years ago I tried to teach myself tatting. I tried and tried and somewhere along the way discovered the little "snap" that you need to do to get the thread in the right possition. I made a couple little butterflies and called it quits. I simply don't have the patience to do the little repetitions necessary to make anything.

Good luck on learning and let us see a couple small projects.

If I was able, healthwse, flower gardening would be my next favorite after sewing and quilting. During the winter, reading is my favorite hapbby, especially when it is a story about quilting. For you, who, do love to read, let us know some of your favorite authors. I will submit some of mine later this week.

If I could do that NOBODY would be allowed to cut into it!

But the inside is better then the outside!!!!!

No way, unless you have a recipe like the lady who did my older DD's wedding cakes. The absolutely best cake I've ever tasted. She had 3, decorated as gifts. One was a cherry cake, one was chocolate and one was coconut. Simply fantastic

It's actually quite easy after you learn the trick of snapping the thread into place. But way too repetitive for me

GrannieAnnie 03-15-2011 07:58 AM

Sorry for so many replies in a row. Had to read all the way thru 20+ pages.

I'm amazed at all the hobbies. I'd have guessed you all would have stayed in the handicraft areas with your hobbies. Glad to see I'm wrong.

And some of you are quite physically active with your hobbies. LOL, mine are mostly sitting hobbies.

Congrats to all of you!
