Hey Ladies!!! Just going through the posting. There are a lot of us that belong to the "Barefoot Sewing Club". I didn't know there were so many of us. YEAH!!!!!!

Sew in the dining room now, and there is carpet. Put I haven't run into a pin yet. Hubby has found one with his shoes on, but he only reminded me that "I should be more careful with the pins". Living up north with winters most of the year, has been interesting. Most of the time I hobble like many of you. Bob, the mailman, won't ask about the foot again, I'm sure. But it sure made my day.

hperttula123 04-19-2012 04:42 PM

I don't wear shoes in the house so of course, I sew with no shoes on too. :)

tjradj 04-19-2012 04:59 PM

shoeless, toes curled over the end of the footpedal to hold it in place.

MarleneC 04-19-2012 05:01 PM

Count me in. I've just read this is a better way to control foot pedal.

Shoeless here too. In the winter, I have 2-3 prs of socks on for warmth out of habit. My compression stockings, then a pair of anklets, then a pair of fuzzy warm socks. But I have to slip on my mules (all 3 pair fit into them)to cut and iron or my legs, hips, and lower back get sore from being barefooted standing too long. Have to support the arches.

flhomeschoolmom 04-19-2012 05:13 PM

Count me in. Normally I'm always wearing my shoes, but when I sew I have to take them off. I can't get the correct steady pressure on the foot pedal with shoes on.

As for pins, I keep a magnet handy and run it over the carpet or tile in the area I'm sewing in. I got into this habit when my boys were very small. It's amazing how well a magnet works for that.

Pam B 04-19-2012 05:14 PM

Always. Cannot stand to wear shoes when I sew!

Buckeye Rose 04-19-2012 05:43 PM

depends on the weather! cold weather requires at least socks, sometimes slippers....in warm weather you might see me barefoot or in a pair of flops!

PolkaBabe 04-19-2012 05:51 PM

I sew without shoes & many times alternate my feet. Of course I am always barefoot in the house anyway.

childofgod 04-19-2012 05:55 PM

Shoeless club.

Put a piece of textured shelf and drawer liner under your foot pedal. It won't slide around that way

Nonna Judi 04-19-2012 06:52 PM

Ditto for me too! Right shoe is always of when I am sewing but mostly both shoes are off when I am in the house.

WilliP 04-19-2012 07:14 PM

I wear shoes --- and this reminds me to update my DTP shot ---on top of Washington state having a pertussis epidemic (whooping cough). I keep my shoes on after narrowly missing the top of my foot when my hands did a carpal tunnel spasm while I was using my rotary cutter

sylviak 04-19-2012 07:25 PM

I sew in my slippers. They're soft enough I can feel the pedal and I can get up and go wherever without worrying about stepping on a pin or something else on my way from the shed to the house. In the winter they're warm and in the summer they're comfortable.

lynnegreen 04-19-2012 07:27 PM

shoe off for me!

Lyncat 04-19-2012 07:32 PM

No shoes for sewing or driving. My shoes also seem to magically come off when I'm teaching.

Dee 04-19-2012 07:57 PM

I am always barefoot, unless I go to the store etc. I can only sew barefoot.

#1piecemaker 04-19-2012 08:00 PM

Stocking feet for me! No shoes. I want to feel the medal when I sew.

Jim 04-19-2012 08:32 PM

member of the barefoot club here too....a few women at my quilt guild are the same way...we kick our shoes off and sew right on

Val in IN 04-19-2012 09:10 PM

I sew shoeless too. In the winter I MIGHT wear socks, but I've been known to kick them off too. A case of "blue toes" won't stop me from sewing. :D

pattilynn 04-19-2012 10:09 PM

If I am at home, I am barefooted..........

chuckbere15 04-19-2012 11:38 PM

No show either, I need to feel the pedal. I have been to a class and the instructor had heels on and sewing. That just blew my mind.

I'm the same way. It is either bared or socked even when I go to a charity all day event. In that case when I am not home, I have some sort of slip on shoes that comes off when it is time to sit down and work. If I need to go iron or what not, the shoes just slip back on just in case of someone leaving something sharp on the floor.

nycquilter 04-20-2012 02:46 AM

I can't sew with shoes at all. EVen when I test the machines in the store, off comes the right shoe! I also rarely wear any shoes or slippers in the home. I think this comes from my dad, who spent time in Japan.

Eliebelle 04-20-2012 02:52 AM

Count me in the 'shoeless' column.

indymta 04-20-2012 03:17 AM

Same here.

Krystyna 04-20-2012 03:53 AM

Usually no shoes, but if not just flip flops.

Becky Crafts 04-20-2012 04:08 AM

I can sew with or without shoes on. Depends on where my cockatoo is at the time. Had them off yesterday & he bit my heel so I had to clean up blood off the carpet, wash my compression sock & then stitch up the hole he made in it. He's sneaky & tries to build a nest under my chair, then gets aggressive if I move. He got a "Time Out" yesterday until he calmed down.

sewrkristy 04-20-2012 04:27 AM

Same for me. I drive my machine with no shoe.

damaquilts 04-20-2012 04:28 AM

I hate wearing shoes. lol so I am a barefoot stitcher. :-)

reginalovesfabric 04-20-2012 04:28 AM

I live in the deep south you know I sew barefooted

lisalovesquilting 04-20-2012 04:34 AM

Count me in. Always barefoot in the house.

LOL I always do this! I usually wear flip flops and just flip the one on my right foot off before i sew but then i walk around ironing etc. and go back and forth so i never put it back on LOL. I understand totally!

rj.neihart 04-20-2012 04:42 AM

Love it! Shoeless is the way to go for me too!

Fabaddict 04-20-2012 04:44 AM

I always wear shoes or slippers - a friend who used to sew barefoot, had a needle surgecally removed from her foot and had to wear a "boot" for 2 weeks - and was not able to sew or drive for the entire time.

Sande 04-20-2012 05:05 AM

Barefoot is the only way for me. I tried with my house slippers and it just doesn't work!

I sew with both shoes off most of the time. If I'm dressed to go out and I sit back down, then I sew with one shoe on and one shoe off. I have always done my sewing this way, made home-ec SUCK. Teacher didn't want you taking off you shoes (but I used to any way):) My mom used to say it was "The Hilly Billy" coming out in me, my standard answer was always the same "SO".

chefjojo 04-20-2012 06:09 AM

I grew up at the beach so it's no shoes all the time!

sandrabrueggeman 04-20-2012 07:02 AM

I'm barefoot on one foot.

SandyMac 04-20-2012 07:06 AM

I like my socks on but no shoes, no makeup ,and in my PJ.Life is good when your retired. Sandy
