I asked my husband to stay in the car while I went into the LQS. He asked why was I going to long, no I just want to pick up my BOM and leave. I have too much now in fabric. If he comes with me, I buy way to much. Honey, do you like this?
I need time to think how and which person I would use it for . So for my pocketbook sakes I try not to take him. proof I don't need more fabric |
Oh my.
No, I don't take DH with me. And he'd shoot me if my craft area was as plentiful as that, since it's in an open area of the house.
Wow
When you need help organizing this room - call me. I can help you whittle down the amount you have and you'll never miss what I remove .......... ;o)
Whoa! That's a lot of stuff! I take DH. 1 I don't drive. 2 he has a good eye for colors
My husband is an enabler so for the sake of our bank account I don't usually take him along. However, he has excellent taste and is even better company so I find it hard to leave him at home!
Mine usually doesn't go but when he does - he sits patiently in the car while I shop - really its the only time he is patient while I shop.
Mine doesn't like going with me. He will sometimes to watch our DD. But usually it's just DD (age 2) and I together.
In the summer he takes me by bike. Sometimes he comes in with me. He loves to shop.

Not unless we're out of town. He may browse a bit and then leave but he never rushes me :)

You have a great place to quilt. I would have hubby to put up shevles all alone the wall something like this. I need more shevles myself, what I have is ful nowl. All of it is not cotton fabric. :-( I use acid free board to wrap the fabric around it.
 oops I did it again.
Geeze, if your Husbands influence increases your fabric purchases maybe I should start bringing yours around mine so it will rub off! ;)
No, I don't bring Hubby, and I don't think anything short of several hundred dollars in payment could entice him to come along. Lol* He has zero...wait, if there's something less than zero...that's how much interest AND patience he has for fabric shopping! LoL* I don't mind though, he has a baseball card hobby and I'll be darned if I'm going along with him to his baseball card shops either! LOL* |

Wish I wasn't so far away- I would work along side of you to tidy up your room. That's what I am doing this AM- putting the patterns I pulled and sorting scraps before the big day-Tomorrow is production time. |
I'm not sure how you know you have too much fabric.

I don't usually take DH, he gets rather antsy and I have to look at ALL the fabrics. But I do have to agree with previous poster, DH would divorce me if my craft room was as overstuffed as yours.
My hubbub honestly is my best friend. Of course he comes along :)
Mine usually is the one to suggest we stop, he loves to shop, he likes all the gadgets and machines. He's a keeper and my enabler
Mine is an enabler. He ought to be ashamed of himself!
I try to go without my husband. Most of the time he'll wait in the car -- he doesn't complain how long it takes and in fact will say "back so soon?". But I do feel the pressure - especially on hot days. If he comes into the store, he talks me into buying more fabric - and that gets expensive!!!
Mine has not gone yet, but is very willing. I may try to talk him into it this afternoon or weekend. I need to pick out fabric for my son's quilt and he has a great eye for things that go together well.

Mine too. He'll usually come in with me and browse, see if I need help finding anything (he can seriously find a needle in a haystack) After awhile he'll go in the car and watch a movie. If I'm out in less than an hour, he'll say "that was quick" :) robin |
Yes my hubby comes with me fabric shopping; I love his company and his input.
My honey has went with me a couple of times, only when we already out together and I need to stop. He doesnt complain to much. He likes joanns the best because he can get things there to make fly fishing lures. And He would kick me out of the house if I had that much stuff. I went on a cleaning spree a few months back and tossed alot of batting scraps, before we tossed them in the bombfire he asked if I was sure I wanted to do this. He too encourages me to buy the things that I could never afford before. But a life time of living hard has made it hard to get a room that full.

I would never willingly take my husband into a quilt shop with me. He would be Dr. Killjoy..."Are you kidding me!!! You're going to spend $10 for a yard of fabric!! Are you crazy?". Etc....I can just hear the many comments he would make as I went through the shop. Every time I touched something or commented on something he would say "You don't need that! You already have too much stuff!" Having him with me would zap the fun out of browsing in the quilt shop. So, instead I take my 5 yr old twins. They love looking at fabric in quilt shops!
I've seen many fun messy sewing rooms but this room makes me feel sad. :? Leave hubby to organize the room while you go fabric shopping.
Since mine is only home a few hours on the weekend, it has to be extremely rare to ask him to go to the fabric store. He does like to go pick out threads though for the embroidery machine since he enjoys using that.
If he was home all the time, I do believe he'd go with me as we pretty much go everywhere together when possible. I enjoy his company and his opinions. BTW... my room was almost that stacked/whacked but I had to force myself to get real and find the floor again...now that it's cleared up and the fabric is on shelves I really feel good about my fabric and will even show it off to company. |
oh my goodness
Some reorganization and you would have lots more room. I would rather go to the quilt shop alone. My DH likes to go in , buy something and leave. He doesn't care what I buy he just doesn't understand why I spend so much time in there !
i typically shop online for fabric but he does come to every quilt show with me and doesn't have a problem with anything that i buy.
he even knows every penny i spend shopping online and has never had a problem with it. |
We always go together since we are both retired. Then we always go somewhere to eat. He also goes to quilt shows with me. We took our ggs with us to a quilt show and boy did he have ideas for a quilt for himself. Had a lot of fun that day, since it was his idea to hang out with us.
YEs, DH loves to go to the LQS or fabric store. He is my color coordinator when I'm at a loss. He is not burdened by color theory rules, so he will pick out bolts he likes and has saved my sanity on many occasions.
He is also very supportive of my craft and when I don't know how much to get he usually tells me to at least round up to the nearest yard. Usually he will engage with other quilters in the store and it is so funny to see those exchanges. Often it goes from "why is this MAN talking to me about quilting" to "OMG he even knows the terms - what a nice guy" Too cute! |
I love how honest quilters are, I'm amazed you posted a pic of the room. LOL That's totally fixable though. I take my DH with me when I shop for fabric because his work is so busy, I want to see him all the time. He's actually really good at helping me if he doesn't think a fabric looks right for a quilt.

Now THAT makes me feel sad. A messy, unorganized sewing room can be cleaned up, but a DH who is intolerant and impatient--can't be. |
i can really relate! last time i took hubby with me- just needed some paperback fusable- planned on spending about $10===$283 later i made it out of the store!!!
he found 3 different collections- he really felt i had to get---some of each---the fabrics are still in a bag- still in the closet---one of these days i will be caught up enough on stuff i had already in the works- to look at what he felt i had to have. usually it's great to take him along- but my budget won't take a habit of it :) he would never agree to sit in the car though- he likes looking- (now if i could just get him to use his check book at the check out-it would be ok))) |
