I've had one for years and never used it. I have issues with my ruler sliding and being inaccurate so Im definately going to try this ruler again.
Her video makes cutting strips so easy.

A1penny 08-07-2011 04:08 AM

I just read this topic and decided to look and see what this ruler was.
I just saw the demo on Utube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pETsJf2nNQE.
I had been debating getting one of those machines to cut my strips, but after reading all your comments, and seeing the demo....this ruler is for me! I'm ordering one today.
THANKS! :-D

LOVE mine!!! When (or if) it wears out, I'll be back buying another one in a hot minute. I consider this my favorite gadget.

Happy Linda 08-07-2011 04:34 AM

Love mine too.

Steady Stiching 08-07-2011 04:34 AM

Question.......why would this help in not getting the dreaded wave at the seam? I thought that was due to inacurate folding before cutting.
I'm a big fan of ripping vertical because of having that wave too many times to count.
I've looked at the shapecut video and am impressed. I didn't know you could cut shapes with it. But will i still get the dreaded wave?

Patched 08-07-2011 04:43 AM

I have had my slotted ruler for years and it is the only ruler I use. I might as well get rid of the rest of my rulers.

sewcrafty 08-07-2011 04:43 AM

They are just WONDERFUL things! I have 3 of them and OMG if anyone of them broked I'd be replacing immediately.

judi43 08-07-2011 04:46 AM

I used the June Taylor Ruler all the time & loved it but I bought my own Xmas present this year & it was the Quilt Cut 2 and I used it for everything. You can cut 6 layers and nothing moves, IT'S SUPER>

sewmom 08-07-2011 04:50 AM

I think I may have the shape cut ruler. I'm going to get it out and try it again. I also like the new half square and quarter square ruler too. Does Joanns carry this one too?

Maureen 08-07-2011 04:51 AM

I wondered how good it was. I saw Elinor Burns use one in a tutorial. I will check them out next time at JoAnns. Thanks for the info. As always you people are so knowledgable, no wonder Im addicted to this site!

3699quilter 08-07-2011 04:54 AM

I have one and for some reason I keep forgetting to use it - thanks for the reminder!

d.rickman 08-07-2011 04:55 AM

FYI - If you are worried about your ruler sliding, you can purchase dots made from sand paper that have an adhesive on the back side, just place these dots on the reverse side of your ruler along the top and bottom of each ruler - should be no sliding after that.

Murphy1 08-07-2011 05:05 AM

Thanks for the link to the video, I now know I must get one. The demo was very enlightening. Thanks for sharing.

JanetLW 08-07-2011 05:15 AM

I have the two of them and find that they are better than the Accuquilt for long strips because I don't get a sway in the fabric at the fold line as I do with the Accuquilt.

SS Muro 08-07-2011 05:15 AM

I've had mine for years and just recently started using it when I started quilting again. I love it for its accuracy.

1234Irene 08-07-2011 05:30 AM

Way cool, I have one of those from my mom, and thought it was only used to cut perfect squares for like T shirt quilts! This is great! Just shows how much more I need to learn.......

I used it finish cutting the borders forth baby quilt I'm making, and I love it!!! Im wondering though, it seems to be a "too good to be true" kind of thing. Is it? Or is it just that wonderful!? Lol

After reading all the comments on the slotted ruler I went on a web search and found these rulers are on sale at Quilting-Warehouse.com. I ordered the 20 x 23 inch and the 12 x 18 inch this morning. saved about 25%

joycecil 08-07-2011 05:35 AM

I saw the demo and went looking for one. Let me tell you I would not be without one. I always look for the best value for my money. I found the best deal at WalMart on line. I got the 18 inch shipped to my store (no shipping) It was almost half the price then the other shops.

MaryAnna 08-07-2011 05:56 AM

Well now I have to get one too!

Blessings,
MaryAnna

Gosh,
I don't mean to rain on this parade but I have one and do not use it because my rotary cutter sliced off the edges when I used it. I laid it aside because I thought this made my 1/4" seams inaccurate. Also, I it dulled my blades. I purchased it about 5 or 6 years ago. Are they making them out of something that will "stand up" to the rotary blades now? Anyone with a newer one having this issue?

bigsister63 08-07-2011 06:01 AM

they are great to use! But ( this may sound silly ) watch your self when moving from slot to slot. Make sure you math is correct and that you cut in the correct slot.I write my slot inches down so I do the math correct. It is easy to get in a hurry and cut in the wrong slot. ( ya I did that a couple of times)

meemersmom 08-07-2011 06:30 AM

Yes. It really is that good.

Stitchnripper 08-07-2011 06:31 AM

I use mine all the time.

If you hold your rotary cutter straight up and down and not at a slant, you shouldn't have a problem. I also make sure it is directly in front of me. Also you can't rush when putting it in the slot. Take your time and you will save time.

I put a piece of blue painters tape next to the slot I want to use, also do this with my regular rulers to prevent errors in cutting.

gus 08-07-2011 06:37 AM

I have 2. Love them

meetoo82 08-07-2011 06:38 AM

I got one as a gift but have never used it. Watched the video and now realize what I have been missing.
No more wavy strips!!

busygranny 08-07-2011 06:56 AM

WOW!!!!Just watched the June Taylor video on these. Again WOW!!!! I have one but I just used it for cutting fringe on fleece. Going to get rite out and get the other ones. Sure makes cutting strips, squares, and even hexagons a breeze. Be sure and go and watch her videos. Opens up a whole new world for cutting.

I bought mine at WalMart for a good price. Have used it but often have a "wave" because I fold the fabric since mine is the 12" size. Watched the video and read all the postings but still not clear on how to avoid the "wave" Appreciate any suggestions!

Emma S 08-07-2011 07:27 AM

If you can believe it I had one of these rulers for years, a present, and never used it. I read a prior thread on this and decided to try it. Love it! Not only does it improve accuracy but I think they are safer than a simple ruler.

PS Stitcher 08-07-2011 07:32 AM

I love mine too!! :)

Thank you!

Mine too, I use the Alto 2 oer just a regular ruler and cutter. once I finally got the hang of it it goes pretty fast.

Roberta 08-07-2011 07:43 AM

Love mine too.

Dolphyngyrl 08-07-2011 07:44 AM

My favorite ruler, can't live without it, in fact I am going to save for the bigger one online at joannn's

blyn330 08-07-2011 08:07 AM

Wow, thank heavens there are no quilt police ---- I have had one of those rulers for three years and never knew how to use it but now that I have watched that video it just looks so awesome and now I can use it---- thank you all---I just love this site----

meetoo82 08-07-2011 08:12 AM

Glad to know I'm not the only one

sassymoose 08-07-2011 08:36 AM

Wow thank you for bringing this to my attention. I watched the video and now I need to go shopping.

dottientx 08-07-2011 08:38 AM

I have one and I've never liked it one bit! Maybe I should find it again and give it another try. Another time and another mind set??

Ardelle Coult 08-07-2011 08:46 AM

I have one that I have only used a few times- now that I've watched the video I will probably give it another try. I am curious about the price. I bought mine at JoAnns a few years ago and I know that I didn't pay anywhere near what they are priced at online! Have they gone up that much or did I just get a good deal - I think I paid under $15.
