I have made a lot of them. My GD loves her 'taggie'! I make them with fleece. If they use a pacifier, you can loop it to one of the ribbons with another ribbon.

I make a lot of burp cloths from the remnant bins. I watch for pieces at least 12". Usually the plain colors are heavier and more absorbant so I use that for the back and a cute print for the top. Cut the wof in half and can get 2 cloths if you use two coordinating fabrics. Don't need to cut out anything--just wof so it will hang over the shoulder and arm. Usually when they spit up it ends up on your sleeve so it's good to have the cloth covering that, too! Sew around, turn right side out and top stitch.

Another little gift --covers for the straps on car seats. Cut 2 pieces 6 1/4 x at least 4". Put a bit of batt inside and then velcro on the 4" side so the 6 1/4" part wraps around the strap. This protects the baby's neck from irritation from the straps and also gives a bit of support to a sleepy head. These work well for any age as long as they are in the seats. Might even work with bigger people who complain about seat belts rubbing on their necks!

Oops! I neglected to say that I make those burp cloths from flannel!! The strap covers can be anything. Flannel might be too warm for summertime so cottons in kids prints are nice.

My grankids loved those taggy things! Great way to use up ribbon too!

Hi, I've been "lurking" for a couple years & really learned a lot. Finally joined in to share a baby shower favor idea. I collected a bunch of green JoAnn totes (99 cents) but used coupons for all of them, then used up some of my brightly colored stash to make pockets to cover up the JoAnn words. You could use baby themed fabric but I wanted the favor to be useful & NOT baby stuff to be used as a grocery tote. I also make these with Christmas fabric & the bag is part of the gift. Have to find a pic to post

I just wanted to note on this, I love the idea but caution that carseats are only safety tested with the equipment that came with the seat. Anytime you add anything, even a coat between the straps and child, you are compromising the safety to some degree. This is why the seat manufactors and safety people don't recommend anythign under or around the straps. You aren't able to get the straps as tight as they are supposed to be. Just a FYI. I don't think it's as big of a deal for adult seat belts! :lol:

I have made several "Tag blankets". They are really simple to make. My grandson loves his. I cut the ribbons three inches in length and tack them down around the edges of the wrong side of the fabric. I sew the back on with right sides together leaving an opening then turn it right side out. I hand stitch the opening. I sew a decorative top stitch 1/2" from the edge. This method ensures the tabs are sewn down tightly. Remember, never use monofilament on a baby quilt. These sell very well at craft fairs. Sometimes I add an applique. You can also embroider if you are lucky enough to have an embroidery machine.

I've heard that the health depts do not approve the use of such a wrap for infants car seats. However, I thought it was interesting that a rather large neonatal unit would not release a preemie unless the padded strips were on the seat at dismissal! Go figure.

I'm not sure if this is what you're wanting, but with it being a baby shower, I thought it might be a nice gift anyway. That said, this is just something I've been thinking about and don't even know if it would work.

I've thought of making a baby bonnet by using a patchwork strip of 1inch wide x 2inch pieces?? to decorate the front over the head.
Sew it to a wider strip of white fabric for the back and quilt before turning under at the side edges.
Turn under a wider hem at the back, thread with a ribbon and pull up the gathers with a bow.
Bind the front to cover the raw edges and add ribbons at the lower bottom edge.

Like I said, this is just a rough idea, but if anyone has made one at some time I would love to hear about it.
