Good for you. Glad you worked it out.

Sounds like a wonderful space. You know as long as we are quilting, we can work just about anywhere! Enjoy your quilting studio!

The lady who lives across from my aunt in senior housing did exactly the same thing! What my aunt uses for a pantry closet, she uses as a mini sewing room. I think it's an awesome idea!

I know it is a difficult adjustment when you lose your mate, but, I think it is great that you are able to do your quilting in the smaller area. It is very therapeudic

It sounds wonderful the way you have it set up. How terrific that you figured out how to convert the closet and how lucky it had an air vent to keep you comfortable. Bravo!

I'm with you richardswife. Dedicated rooms for our crafts are wonderful ( I have one) but not necessary. The don't improve upon our abilities, desires or outcome.

So, good for you girl to keep it going.

best,
d

Good for you! You have more time to sew because you aren't cleaning a big house!

When my husband died in 2010 I waited a couple of years and then decided I no longer wanted the responsibility of a large house. So I got rid of the house and moved into a nice "seniors apt". That meant I had to give up my 11X15 sewing room, BUT NOT give up SEWING AND QUILTING. In one of my new bedrooms there was a 5'9" X6'7" closet and after a little measuring, I made it my new sewing room:thumbup:. There is room for my serger, and sewing machine, along one wall, and shelves on the other long wall too store my fabric stash. On the wall by the machines I put up a peg board that my DH had made for me and it holds all the rulers, etc. that I use. There is plenty of room to sit and sew and do everything I need to do except cutting....I do that on my dining room table. Also my ironing board is placed just outside the door so I just roll my chair a foot or two and can press everything. It does NOT feel claustrophobic as the door is always open when I am working in there and my machine is right next to the door. It is very light and also has an AC/H vent in there. I just open the door, open the window shades on the opposite wall of the BR and Walla!!! I am ready to sew. When I am ready to quit I just shut the door. Where there is a will, there is always a way.

This sounds a bit like what I am trying to do now. I now have (in the process of selling) a four bedroom house with a sewing room w/walk in closet and a quilting room w/a closet. Well, when I mentioned selling my house, my baby girl and her husband decided to add a room w/bathroom to their house so I can live with them. I have this horrow of them finding me dead/de-composed body due to the fact I live way out in the country, alone. They call or come by when they have the chance, not often. I will have my own bedroom and my own bathroom & they are making sure I have enough space for all my sewing equipment. They live in town, so I will be close to all the stores, etc. I am SEW excited as well as they are.
