I have been waiting very anxiously (unpatiently) for my new Tin Lizzie 18 to be delivered! I guess I'm a very literal person because when they said, "it takes a week to be delivered," I honestly expected it to be here in one week! Well, a little over two weeks later the shipper called and said it would delivered between 4pm and 5pm today! Yeah! I rushed home and waited and the semi truck pulled up and I could hardly contain my excitement! But then the trucker opened his mouth and said the box was here. What? Just one box? No, no, no, there should be three boxes! "No," he repeated, "just one box, I don't know why it says three, they only gave me one." So...he brought the one box to the door which just happened to be the machine head and my heart stopped, I froze, I couldn't breathe...NO...the box had been dropped! One corner completely ripped off, one corner smashed in, and one side smashed in AND the strapping tape was busted! I looked at the driver as he just stood there waiting for me to thank him! I said, "Who dropped this? It's been dropped!" He said, (like I was some idiot), "Well, this is all I have, I need for you to sign for it." "No...I don't think so! What if it's damaged?" The driver said, "I guess you could open it up and see if it's okay." I had my son carry it into the house, I started to slit the top seal (the only one not busted) and then my brain finally realized what was happening! I stopped and called the store and told the owner what was going on, she was upset. She said to refuse the shipment! So, I had my son carry it back out and told the driver I was refusing the shipment because only 1 of 3 boxes were delivered and the the one box, which had the machine head had clearly been dropped and I couldn't be sure the machine wasn't damaged! It cost way too much money to take a chance! So, he asked me to sign the delivery slip and I looked at him like he was crazy. So...I wrote, "Refused deliver, only one package delivered and it was busted." Oh....to come so close yet not get my machine! I'll probably have nightmares tonight! Talk about stressful! The owner of the store where I purchased the machine was calling Tin Lizzie the second we got off the phone to tell them what happened and to order me another machine. I called the transport company manager and told him I had refused the delivery and why. He said, "Oh...I might have your other boxes here at the warehouse, do you want me to send them on out, will you accept delivery then?" No...I politely told him because the machine head had been dropped hard enough to bust the seals and tear off parts of the box! I said you might as well plan on sending the shipment back because I won't accept it damaged. I politely told him that I didn't understand why they separated the shipment when it comes from Tin Lizzie on it's own skid, with all three boxes shrunk wrapped together to protect it! He said, "Hmmm, I'm not sure but it probably just came to us like that!"

Thank you for letting me vent! I think I'll go make a glass of cold iced tea and try to calm down! Oh...so close and yet so far...I was ready to sew the night away!

So hard to be so excited--yet disappointed at others (your shippers) who don't fulfill their promises. Good for you to call the company, and refuse the shipment.

Debbie C 07-13-2011 02:40 PM

so sorry - l'd be putting something a bit stronger in my glass than iced tea with all that stress!!
hang in there - it'll arrive soon and intact!

ube quilting 07-13-2011 02:44 PM

Your excitment and disapointment is so heart felt. Good that you kept your head about you and refused the shipment. Your next dilivery will be that much more sweet for the wait. Good luck and post when you are up and running!
peace :D

Yeah, I'd be pouring out some iced tea of the Long Island variety...

Good for you for refusing damaged goods. After you get your machine all set up, this'll just be a speedbump that slowed you down a little bit. :)

jmabby 07-13-2011 02:49 PM

I am so glad you had the foresight to refuse -- GOOD FOR YOU. Wait for a good undamaged one.

sewingladydi 07-13-2011 02:58 PM

Disappointing, but better to refuse than end up with a lemon

Lacelady 07-13-2011 02:59 PM

Oh, you poor thing - you have my heartfelt sympathies, but you did the right thing. The only other thing I might have done was to take pics of the state of the box while you had it in the house. Hang in there, it will be lovely when it finally comes.

LyndaOH 07-13-2011 03:02 PM

I hate when stuff like this happens! You did exactly the right thing and you'll be rewarded for your patience!

poultney 07-13-2011 03:03 PM

I'm glad you stopped opening it. How would you know whether something was wrong with it? I'm glad you called the company you purchased it from. Good luck on your next machine. Sally

blueangel 07-13-2011 03:08 PM

So sorry. I know how dissapointed you was.

mizkyp 07-13-2011 03:09 PM

Enjoy your iced tea and dream about what you are going to create. :)

jaciqltznok 07-13-2011 03:09 PM

oh dear....HUGS....hopefully some good will come of this...

SueDor 07-13-2011 03:18 PM

The Tin Lizze Company many send you a new one express delivery if your salesperson called. They don't want anyone angry. So may have a new one before the weekend.

BellaBoo 07-13-2011 03:22 PM

My goodness! What shipping company did tin lizzie use?

flowerjoy 07-13-2011 03:24 PM

Oh, I know how you feel... it is so difficult when you depend on others and they fall short... helpless is the feeling I get... but I am glad that the store manager called Tin Lizzie right away... sounds like you have a good person on your side... that was very smart to refuse delivery... thank you for sharing that... hope you get your Tin Lizzie soon.

QuiltingGrannie 07-13-2011 03:32 PM

So good that you were home when it was arrived. Depending on the company, now-a-days they don't even need you to be home when deliver things and they put it as delivered!

Good actions on your part. Be patient. Good things are coming your way. It will be worth the wait.

moonwork42029 07-13-2011 03:38 PM

sorry you didn't get to set it up and work on it...better safe than sorry

BigDog 07-13-2011 03:43 PM

You, OP, are a very good writer. I swear I could feel every emotion you felt. How dreadfully disappointing.

ChrisB 07-13-2011 03:56 PM

I know you are disappointed but you did absolutely thr right thing in refusing it.

kat112000 07-13-2011 03:59 PM

I wonder what shape the other two boxes were in! Sorry this happened to you.

Celeste 07-13-2011 04:52 PM

I think I'd be both screaming and crying right now! HOW FRUSTRATING!

mzmama 07-13-2011 04:53 PM

Glad we could be here for you.

Ditto!!! I, too, am wondering what shipping company attempted this delivery.

sewmuchmore 07-13-2011 05:01 PM

It is a good thing that you refused the shipment, Always note on the delivery form damage. The shipper is then responsible . I worked in traffic for a company and file damage claims all the time. Always inspect all of the boxes if there is any damage note on the delivery form. Have them to wait until you open it and if there is any damage if so note conceal damage. This will help when the store files a claim.
Sorry this has happen to you :-( ))))))hugs((((((((

Painiacs 07-13-2011 05:13 PM

glad u refused and called!!! SSoooo Sorry!!

azwendyg 07-13-2011 05:16 PM

Oh no! I really feel for you. That was some good thinking on your part though; you handled the situation perfectly! And soon you'll have a new, undamaged, machine to call your own.

Snorky Lvs2Quilt 07-13-2011 07:19 PM

Glad you didn't let the delivery driver intimidate you into signing for a damaged box. The delivery company will have to deal with the manufacturer regarding the damages. Hopefully Tin Lizzy will expedite a new machine out to you asap. I feel your frustration.

PrettyCurious 07-13-2011 07:25 PM

I dunno what a tin lizzie is, but it sounds like you wanted it real bad. Good thing you refused it. Occasionaly I refuse shipment with what sounds like broken glass in them. It's never a good thing.

I sure hope you get your Tin Lizzie Thingy undamaged, and soon!

rexie 07-13-2011 07:40 PM

Yea for you! Way too much money to take a chance like that.

Kitsie 07-13-2011 07:58 PM

I hope that Tin Lizzie will change their delivery system! Or contact the shippers at least! So sad for you and bad for the company, too.

craftybear 07-13-2011 08:06 PM

I sure hope you get another one fast!

Good job keeping a you cool and refusing delivery. A new one will be there soon and totally worth the wait.

hopetoquilt 07-14-2011 03:00 AM

Glad you did not let the delivery guy push you around!

sweet 07-14-2011 03:01 AM

Bummer. Hope it all works out!

LilaKay 07-14-2011 03:02 AM

I used to work in shipping and receiving for the hospital here in town before I retired. Deliveries like the one you just experienced is why I had a camera in my desk. I would take plenty of pictures when I got something damaged. Then I could e-mail pictures as proof of their screw ups!

smagruder 07-14-2011 03:21 AM

Smart girl. Had you signed the sheet you would have accepted it as is...... never never never do that. I am soooooo sorry...I know your excitement was totally drained from your body.... yes, so close yet so far away.

You know, I think we are all just sick and tired of all the incompetence in the world lately..... this issue and the bug issue in the newest set of threads, is just over the top and so not right!!!
I am so glad you did not sign and called the co. and the delivery co. I commend you for not letting you excitement get too in the way to think this through real fast... Hope the next delivery does not take too long and all will be well in the waiting... i also hope the Tin Liz co does a rush shipment for you to compensate the issue...

redmadder 07-14-2011 03:32 AM

Good for you. Don't you wish the shipping companies lived up to the advertising? I've worked for trucking companies and most don't give a &#@^&!. Lets don't get started about installation agreements!

Jo Mama 07-14-2011 04:09 AM

You did the right thing. In time it will be all better. Make another quilt to quilt.....
