Solid Color Quilt

I made this small sample to illustrate a workshop in "modern quilting/design/style.

I have a book that shows this style - I think it is called City Lights or some such. It really shows how beautiful this style of quilt can be. Someday will make one!
Very striking. How should one quilt this, in keeping with the modern style?
This was designed without preconceived pattern. I cut strips in 6", 5" and 4" and then sub cut in 6" and added the black. Put it on the wall and rearranged it to balance. I was in a rush so put it together about 4 hrs last weekend. I have made similar in batiks.
I'm still thinking how to quilt it. |
love the color combo
What a stricking quilt!!!
It is almost Amish in it's simplicity with the black. It's beautiful. I do love solid colored fabric.
It reminds me of an old 150 year old building that I used to work in, all the tops of the windows were stained glass...very pretty!
I love it all but the lavender against the black is wonderful!
love it. it's so different and can use a lot of leftovers i think. sue
It is lovely! I rarely use a solid in a quilt. I prefer to use a blender or a tone on tone. Just recently, I have really had a notion to make a quilt with solids. I bought some Robert Kaufman solid Jelly rolls and am conjuring up a pattern in my mind. I really like the simpleness of the blocks with a solid color and the black sashing. You did good!!!
Very nice....fast, easy and looks great! What else could you ask for?
I really like the solids you used they make a beautiful quilt. I will have to try that soon.
Oh, this is terrific! I love it.
That's pretty. Look at all the straight lines.
Very nice!

I love it. I enjoy all styles of quilt -traditional and modern. I recently joined our local Modern Quilt Guilt as it is a small group and they have some great ideas. We are working on a solids challenge for March. I will try to attach a picture. My background is a chocolate brown and we were given Kona solids charm pack of brights to work with. We were allowed to add one color-I chose the chocolate. I used almost all of my charm pack and all of my colors. Had the hardest time thinking up a pattern but I was inspired by a Amy Butler patttern and then added my own twist to it. The fabric below will be my backing.
Both of these photos are very inspirational! Another quilt to add to my ever-increasing to-do list.
Stunning...Simple and elegant. thanks for sharing!
A very modern look for sure. Can't quite get attached to this look like I can the print fabrics and pieced block quilts.
A very nice quilt, love the colors. When I look at it I feel calm and peaceful.
Like it a lot. Interesting to look at.
Love them! Someday I will make one. Another project to add to mu quilting bucket list.
I think it's very elegant. You don't see many quilts these days done entirely in solids, but this really works. Love your colors.
I love it. It reminds me of quilts from Quilts Made Modern by Weeks Wren and Architectural Quilts. I love the balance you were able to achieve so quickly. HMM. Shall I try?
Looks stunning. I'm also curious as to how you will quilt this. Please show again when you've quilted it.
This may not be my style but it may be the perfect style for someone else. I actually like do it. And in the end, who cares. It is the joy of creativity that keeps us quilting and trying new patterns. Then of course we get all happy about using our stash so we can purchase new choices of fabric. Tee-Hee!
That is stunning, how to quilt I am curious to see what you come up with. Looking around I have seen some quilted very dense, which , I like the look. Others I have seen around the outside of the block blended: with the darker (or lighter in some cases) fabric.
But-- well done, let us know what you decide I know would love to see it when you are finished. |
If you are into free motion quilting, you could quilt each block with a different free motion quilting pattern.
I think this is simply beautiful. Gorgeous solid colors.
If using darker colors, it would look somewhat Amish. I like the solids for a change. Sort of soothing!
Thanks for sharing, you give us new ideas.
That is very pretty, elegant, yet simple. Thanks for sharing.
I cut my teeth on solids and 60 yrs later I still love them

That's one that you could put in a frame, hang it on a wall and no one would know it's cloth. Gorgeous!
