OMG! I just found out this weekend that I am GOING TO BE A GRANDMA!!! (first one) Baby quilt patterns are flyin' around my sewing room! :P The only problem, is that my daughter and son-in-law PREFER not to learn the baby's sex, so can't do much with pink. So they haven't picked a "theme" for decor yet either. I CAN'T WAIT! (due early Nov) Guess I will just start with bright primary colors .... you can never have too many quilts! This opens up a whole new realm in quilt making for me.

Oh that is so exciting, little ones just make our day!! Yellows and blues are good colors also!! Have fun.
Congrats to you and your family! How exciting for you! Enjoy creating your baby quilts. My grandbabies are my angels sent from heaven.
Congratulations! It's so much fun having grandchildren! One can never have too many baby quilts. How about bright rainbow colors? Yellow/blue, yellow/green, even black & white with some bright color accents would look great! The hard part will be narrowing down your choices! LOL
Grandbabies are such a joy!! I have 5, one on the way, and hope we get a bunch more as time goes by. Two daughters married with those babies, and hoping the youngest will have more than 2. Still two sons with no wives....so, we keep hoping!! LOL
How about the quilt in Katie's avatar?? That would be really pretty for a boy or girl. |
Stark contrast like black and white with primary colors mixed in are the colors new babies can see. You have a lot of quilt to make!
I just finished one with 30's reproduction fabric pinwheels - It turned out well - It has all colors in it - Grandchildren are so much fun -
How exciting! I have fabric saved for an "I Spy" quilt. You might want to make one of those at some point.
Congratulations!!! I am hoping that sometime in the next 6 mos or so that I will get some of that same news!!!
Congatulaions!!! Grandbabies are wonderful. Just make lots of quilts for both boys and girls so you will be ready for either one.
Thank you all so much for your kind words....I have a huge smile on my face as I am writing this! I will take all your suggestions to heart as I begin this new chapter in quiltmaking. I have 2 WIP that I HAVE to finish first as they are very special gifts, so have to calm down and concentrate on those! (it may be tough)

Congratulations! Grand babies are the best, absolutely.
I just got off the phone with my redheaded grandson. He will be four soon and that boy does love to talk. I am learning everything there is to know about Transformers and Bakugon and pirates and sharks and dinosaurs, and on and on and on. Then a sudden "gotta go potty, I love you, bye" Cracked me up. He is the funniest kid. I have three grandsons and a grand daughter on the way. I literally cried when I found out she was going to be a girl. First a miracle that she is even coming and then a girl as well. She will be so spoiled. All I want to do is sew for her. I have years worth of stuff planned to make for her. How bad is that? I am with Mary, just make some for each gender and some that are for either and you are covered. Grand kids are what makes getting old worth while I think. Mine love me in a way that makes me feel like a queen when they are around. A phone call from either of the bigger boys just makes my day. And a gurgle on the phone from the little guy puts me over the moon. I wish I was closer, but I take what I can get and prepare for more spoiling in between. |
Congratulations!! OOOOh how fun to be a grandma! I don't expect to get that news anytime soon, but I can't wait!! May I ask, quiltingnonie, have you posted your avatar picture anywhere? I would love to see it bigger, it is beautiful from what my aging eyes can see.
Congrats!!! I know that you will enjoy making baby quilts. There are so many to choose from. Happy Quilting:)
Congratulations :)
Congratulations!!! Baby quilts are sooooooooo much fun! Made many for friends and premies at hospital. They have a quilt that someday I'll make. It has pockets on it and different shapes attached by a (lack of a better term) string that hide the object in the pocket. Peek-A-Boo!! :D
Congratulations!! Grands are what make all of those sleepless nights with our kids worthwhile. We have 5 grandsons. I wouldn't trade a minute with them. No girls in sight here. Katia, I know what you mean about saving all of the girl stuff. I have patterns and fabric just waiting! Maybe someday.
Congrats to the soon to be new Grandma. Bright primary colors are great for new babies. They see those better.

YAY!!! Congrats! that's awesome news. Better get sewing. tee hee
How wonderful. Going to be fun for you making things for the baby.
Congratulation! Grandkids make having their parents first worth the headache! I made a "don't want to know the gender" quilt for my friend's grandbaby out of oranges, lime greens, and bright yellows. It's still one of my favorites.
Congratulations! Remember, grandchildren are our reward for not killing our teenagers
CONGRATULATIONS!! I know the feeling. I have five and just love being a grandma.
That is such exciting news! I am so happy for you! Most of my friends are grandparents so I'm hoping some day I will be one too!!!! Have fun making baby quilts!
Beng Grandma is the greatest, spoil them rotton and send them home with thier parents.
being a grandmother is the most wonderful thing. I have a 21 month old named Isabella, Boo for short. She would not let the doctor or anyone else see her private parts until the month #8....but did that stop me from making quilts, NO
Isabella had 8 baby quilts and now I'm making bigger ones. I just have quilted a pink and chocloate brown cupcake. I'm taking to South Carolina for her second birthday May 20th. You sew girl |

How about something that has pink AND blue in it. I was playing in my EQ5 last night and came up with this. The center square could be fabric with something cute like duckies or puppies.

Congrats on becoming a grandma. Between hubby and I, we have 5 kids. Just our daughters are married and have kids, we have 3 granddaughters and 1 grandson. We have 3 boys who aren't married yet so we might end up with a lot of grandkids, which I think would be great.
Congratulations! grandkids are the best. I have 2 grandsons. my son is married, but no kids yet. so i may not have anymore anytime soon. I'd make a couple of quilts and let the parents choose. myself i'd have a hard time deciding which pattern to make, so i'd make a bunch(time allowing) and let them choose. Plus then you would have a couple for last minute baby gifts.

I, too, just found out this week that I am going to be a Grandma (and I still have a 5 year old son at home!!!). That's what I get for having a 23, 21, 20, and 19 year old and then waiting 14 years to have my last. That was God's little joke, I think. I always wanted to have 5 children...well I guess I got what I wished for! :) I have seen many "generic" type quilt patterns that include pastel colors. Greens and yellows are good choices, too. You could make a generic quilt for the birth and then another quilt for the baby's first birthday or some other special occasion in his/her life. Just a thought. Congratulations, again! |

ME TOO! I found out at Christmas that my first is due in late July. While they will found out the gender once my son gets home from Afghanistan, I have already started with the "play on the floor" quilt, which is a huge red, white and blue Ohio Star, with smaller stars in each corner unit. The 'take along quilt" is being done in a gender neutral Teddy Bear fabric accennted with green ginham, probably a 9patch with alternating snowball, and I have not passed up the pinks and blues on sale. I've already scoped out the fabrics for a boy or girl, so I will have the quilt planned once I know what my first grandchild will be and will then get the right fabric. However, I HAD to buy the Little Red Riding Hood fabrics when I found them on clearance for $3.00! Diane |
Congragulations, I have two grandchildren and they are just a joy to have. Penny

If the baby should be a girl, a paper doll quilt is so cute. I am making one for my great granddaughter.
