Just curious... how many of you have any "southwest" fabric in your stash?

And are you actually in the southwest?

isnthatodd 01-08-2011 02:17 PM

I have a bunch to do a southwest cactus at sunset wall hanging. Of course, I have way more than I will need! One of these days I will figure out where I put it and get started on it

jodimarie 01-08-2011 02:21 PM

funny you should ask....I just finished a Warm Wishes quilt done with a really cool Native American fabric from ( of all places) Walmart!! It is a birthday gift for a friends Mom who will turn 90 in a month and is part Cherokee Indian....she's going to LOVE IT.....

My stash has as many SW fabrics (batiks are my favorites) as I can find. My favorites have petroglyphs/pictographs but any good print will do.

My home is in N Texas or Oklahoma City but the high desert is calling.

mannem 01-08-2011 02:24 PM

does Texas or Southern Colorado qualify for living in the Southwest?

M.E.H. 01-08-2011 02:29 PM

I have several and I live in the middle if Washington.

Lori S 01-08-2011 02:35 PM

I do not buy Southwest themed fabrics. It is a style that does not appeal to anyone I sew for . I am in the Midwest.

amma 01-08-2011 02:41 PM

I have a few, and am always ready to add to them :D:D:D

I would love to find some fabric with kokopelli on it as my sister loves these little guys and I live in Canada! Someone on the board recently made a bow tuck with this type of fabric.

zipit 01-08-2011 02:51 PM

I'll send a link to you in a PM. I searched this morning and found some really beautiful batiks.

I visit my mom is AZ quite often. I now have quite a collection of SW fabrics and have found a number of nice shops to visit while I'm out there!

irishrose 01-08-2011 02:55 PM

I have lots of SW fabric in my stash - more decorator or apparel weight than quiilting weight. I no longer decorate in that genre, so when I find as I reorganize, it will need a new home.

It does to me! 'Cause NY is definitely NOT southwest.

:-)

I live in East Tennessee and I have a stash of southwest fabric and kits. DH and I went to the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque, NM, in October. While there, I visited an incredible LQS, where I bought four kits, FQs, and fabric and brought them back to Tennessee. LOVED IT! I have them on my To Do list.

leatheflea 01-08-2011 04:56 PM

I have some that someone gave me, I'll never use it.

Boscobd 01-08-2011 06:31 PM

I have a large sized tote of SW fabric. Yes, I'm in the SW and I use it quite a bit.

sewingsuz 01-08-2011 07:55 PM

There is very little "southwestern" design fabric available here in northwest Iowa, I did find one Christmas design earlier, used it for table runners to send to granddaughters in Santa Fe. I would buy more, if I found some. piecefully, the old one

Deb1005 01-09-2011 05:28 AM

I have used this source and have been impressed with their customer service and products. If anyone knows of other resources - let me know. Originally from New Mexico and now live in the Mid-Atlantic which means very limited southwestern theme fabric.

I have lots and lots of SW Fabrics and I do live in New Mexico so I guess I can be considered to live in the southwest. I have made many quilts with my fabric and continue to still do so. However my favorite all time fabric is 1930 prints. Enjoy your fabric.

quiltlin 01-09-2011 06:39 AM

I have some and I live in the South...never know when you'll need something like that.

Diane C. 01-09-2011 06:40 AM

I have some bright sunset type fabrics but that's it. I live in Ohio Diane C.

Mona Marie 01-09-2011 06:43 AM

I do have some SW but would like more. I live in the Northwest of Iowa

llong0233 01-09-2011 06:49 AM

I have a little I bought at Wal-Mart 5 years ago, before they remodeled and removed the sewing department. And yes, I am from the Southwest. Tucson, Arizona to be exact. I have lived in North/Central W.V. for the last 8 years and will return to Tucson when I retire this July.

purrfectquilts 01-09-2011 06:59 AM

I don't have southwest fabric in my stash and don't live in the southwest. However, my son loves the colors (not the lizards, cactus, etc.), just the colors. He was recently given a seminole patchwork book by a nother board member. He has also done a drawing that he wants made into a quilt, with southwest colors, and the seminole patchwork borders. So I am on the hunt for those colors, but not necessarily the pictographs, and other southwest symbols.

Moon Holiday 01-09-2011 07:10 AM

I have some leftover from a project I did for a southwest lover. I also have a half yard each of 2 sw fabrics that a friend recently gave me.... I believe it is the fabric she bought when we went to Arizona in 1988, but I may be wrong... will have to dig it out and see if there is a date on it.

Jo Doherty 01-09-2011 07:19 AM

I have lots of Southwest Fabrics and have made some quilts with others that I have had. Really love the colors and the whole feeling of that area of the country. No I don't live there but really wish I could. Jo

quiltingaz 01-09-2011 07:25 AM

I have some and always looking for more for my stash. I live in SW now but only for the past year. I am currently quilting my cactus at sunset. It is what I want for my avatar but could not get pic until all pins are removed. That will be one UFO finished this year.LOL :-)

cassie69emt 01-09-2011 07:51 AM

I am just south of you and I have a ton of southwest fabric but than it is all I can find as far as Native prints are concerned

janedennis 01-09-2011 08:06 AM

I have bought quite a bit on line if you PM me I can send you a few listings just dont have them readily availble to type in here. I use a lot of it on many different things. I just bought a SW clock for my dining room and notice the curtains dont go so bought a beautiful print of indian baskets at Hobby Lobby and am currently making them. Also did placemats from different prints.

ghostrider 01-09-2011 08:15 AM

I have not one square inch of SW fabric in my far NE stash.

midwestqltr 01-09-2011 08:55 AM

I have several pieces of Southwest fabric! I'm using some in a memory quilt I'm making. Other pieces are finding their way into items in our living room...it's decorated in Native
American and wolves.

klgreene 01-09-2011 09:24 AM

I live in New Mexico, and I don't have much SW stash left. I've used so much already, and still will buy.

Debra Mc 01-09-2011 10:13 AM

I have a lot of it. I also have quite a few southwest machine embroidery patterns too. Chili peppers are my thing.

I'm in the Midwest too and love making quilts for my daughter and SIL who are into all things SW, Mexican and South American. They love the ethnic quality of many of the prints.

Debra Mc 01-09-2011 10:18 AM

I also would like to make an Aborgianal theme quilt. They have lots of it at Wally World. Put on to do list. I have a bag with the southwest themed in it & pattern but life & housekeeping keep getting in my way.

magpiefeather 01-09-2011 10:32 AM

I have many Native geometric style prints. I dislike that anything with an Indian print on it is called South West because There are Indian tribes everywhere. A little research by the fabric designer would be nice. But I love prints with Plains beadwork (not many of those) if it is done correctly. There are many prints called South West that show people dressed in a mix of different tribal clothing or a mix of actual South West items and Plains and then it's called Navajo. I am not making Fabric a political issue.....just my observations about the Native American/SouthWest lines. So I pretty much stick to the general geometric patterns I find here and there.

Here is an interesting article about kokopelli:
