Square quilt vs. Rectangular

Hi. I'm getting ready to start on my next quilt.
I'm going to make a granny square lap sized quilt.
I don't want a huge block design. So I'm making my blocks finish at approximately 15". But I quilt
straight lines on my dsm, didn't like free motion.
With sashing the width will be 66", but I don't want
to try to wrangle more than that under my machine
when I'm quilting it, so it would be 66" square, if I
make the length the same as width. Do you all preFer rectangular over square quilts?
Thanks!

I usually make rectangle quilts if I am making a throw or a bed quilt. But if I am making a baby quilt it is usually square.

For adults, I prefer rectangle. I make baby quilts both ways.

I tend to do mostly rectangle quilts, as I have tall folks to cover. :) For babies and younger kids, I'll do either.

I like square quilts so they can be turned any direction. But sometimes the pattern is such that square doesn't work out.

I love square quilts. 65" square is my favorite size. Makes a large play mat for babies, is an oversized bedspread for toddler beds & transitions nicely into a lap quilt as they get older or looks decent as a topper on a twin bed. I love the symmetry of square quilts and enjoy the extra fabric on the sides when snuggling under them.

I also love square quilts. I like the symmetry and if the user is a bit taller, they can turn the quilt on the diagonal. You can also display the quilt on the diagonal on a bed or couch.

I'm a rectangle quilter and adapt square patterns to rectangles. I like to make throw size. They are wide enough to cover and long enough to grow from chin to tucked in toes.

I make many square quilts as I like the look but the most usable ones are rectangle since many of us are rather tall.

I have only made one square quilt. Otherwise all rectangle. They fit people better.
