Has anyone watched the tutorial on the stack & whack with Missouri Quilt Company. I watched it a couple times then made a block. This is what I came out with. Stack & whack without the stack and it is scrappy I love it.....These were left over blocks I had from another quilt I had done so using up my scraps.

Very nice. I like what you did. Now I have to go watch the MQC tute.
Beautiful blocks. The finished product is going to be spectacular!
Very pretty. I like the scrappy look.
Wow so vibrant I love them
I have never done a stack and whack because I didn't want to stack all that fabric together so this is excellent for me.
interesting use of triangles...did you use a Turnover from Moda, or just cut your own?
I had cut blocks from another project I had done and they were 6" blocks and I cut them in half to do this. That's what they say a turn over is. I'm trying to use up my stash.....
hey that are gorgeous. Was this easy to do, i will have to give it ago. I like it. :)
I must be dumb or something..... I watched that tutorial on Miss.quilt.com.......... it is so pretty, but I DO NOT understand.......guess I need written instructions..any idea where I could find some?
I need hands on mostly :(. I want to make a stack and whack some day. Those are really pretty colors. :)
Pretty - she said she was inspired by Bethany Reynolds Stack n Whack book, but it's not stack n whack, is it?
Though I suppose if you didn't have the pre-cuts available, you could cut your 8 triangles from a stack of strips... |
I didn't have pre-cuts I cut 6" blocks in half and used them and it's nothing like stack and whack you just sew 2 triangles together short sides together then sew short side to 3 x 8 rectangle place the two triangles on top of triangle with rectangle I matched the points of triangle together I found it better you have about 1/4 more at bottom but just sew 1/4 in along the bottom of triangles and cut the rest off. I did it 2 ways and they both end up the same....Clear as day right. I watched the video about 3 times before I figured it out for my self that it doesn't match up as she said....It's 3 triangles and a rectangle and no stacking involved it's great....
Nice use of leftovers. Well done.
Great idea, and nice work! I love the colors, especially in block #2! Thanks for sharing the pics and the how-to's!
Very beautiful blocks!
Beautiful blocks, love those fabrics :D:D:D
Great idea!
Very interesting. It would be a great way to get rid of I mean use up some of those scraps left over....
Thanks for sharing! |
very pretty!
Those are lovely, I have got to get some black fabric and try some of these. Would they do for preteen and teen boys donation quilts? Those are the hardest to make for me.
Nice
I really like the block but it's not the SnW that was created by Bethany Reynolds. It is the kaleidoscopic image I think of when I hear or read that term.
http://www.bethanyreynolds.com/ "Stack-n-Whack is an easy way to create quilt blocks with unique kaleidoscope designs. These designs require a set of identical pieces cut from a print fabric. Rather than finding and cutting each piece individually, a quilter can cut and layer a number of large, identical print rectangles to make a stack." |
The black background really makes the colors pop. Beautiful!
Yes did this method and just love it! Fun and fast to do. I used charm pack that I had no idea what to do with. Now the top has turned into a UFO just waited to be quilted and given away or used by me. WOW novel idea. Quilt for ME?
looks like fun, thanks for sharing
I made this block with turnovers.....
I just love the black.. It gives the block such a richness....... |

Pretty blocks, the black fabric really pops the color. I am going to watch the tute today.

There is no waste in Bethany Reynolds' method... :-)
I haven't done hers but my friend has and I didn't like the stacking part and pinning to keep in place. But hers came out beautiful but it wasn't anything I wanted to do. But I didn't mean there was waste I just mention that there wasn't any so you would know....and that you could use scraps or your turnovers or 6" squares. :) |

What a inspiration. Thank you for sharing your ideas and beautiful quilt pieces. Well done.
Very nice.
the tutorial is a bit confusing as the demonstrator is not making an actual "stack and whack" block. She is using the concept but using different fabrics to create the pinwheel pattern. You might search for pinwheel designs. It could be drafted on graft paper to determine the sizes of the rectangular pieces that will fit the triangles.
