I agree long strip sewing, works great, not so much for the short little put-puts....

I have a BABYLOCK and discovered the pedal had to be disconnected.
I was thinking that with FMQ it might not be too bad because it would be a constant even stitch. Will try it out soon, I have several quilts to FMQ....... |
By the time that my brain gets the message that my finger needs to pop up and shut off the dang machine, I have already covered miles of seams (that then need to be picked out). For some reason the message between the brain and the foot goes much quicker even though the distance is longer. Go figure. SO NO, I don't use the button.

I use my start/stop button all the time. I started using mine when I was moving and had packed up the foot pedal. Now I never use the foot pedal at all. Great for free-motion quilting, stays at steady speed. Also good for a circle maker, almost hands-free. For decorative stitches, when smooth slow operation is essential.

I use mine all the time. What I really like about it is it has the hover feature so I can line up my fabric in just the right place.

Have one on my new machine and used it in doing HST and it worked great. I also love the thread cutter it has. Makes a big difference in the scraps of thread laying around later. I am still learning, so hopefully will find lots to do with all the functions on the Singer Quantum Stylist 9960.

I love my start and stop button, I have MS and this button helps me to keep a steady pace. My lower extremities are numb and I'm not sure how my foot will do. I also like my slow and fast button.

I use mine all the time, just love it. I suggest that when just starting out, you may want the speed of the machine slower to get your coordination with hitting the start/stop button or the reverse button. Once you get the coordination down pat, I think that you will love it. It is great for those that have knee or foot problems & have trouble with the foot pedel.
