How much fabric do you all have? Do you still buy more????

bebe 11-08-2009 10:16 AM

of course the more the merrier!!!

Lneal 11-08-2009 10:18 AM

I have a lot of fabric in my stash and I still buy more. If I see something I like and don't know what I will use it for I buy at least 1/2yd to 1yd. I only buy material from LQS because I like the quality of the fabric.

Loisrhunter 11-08-2009 10:19 AM

but how much do you actually have on hand right now? I'm trying to find places to hide yesterdays shop hop accidents..

Ducky 11-08-2009 10:19 AM

I have a lot. I keep telling myself not to buy more until I organize what I have. So far I haven't listened to myself.

Loisrhunter 11-08-2009 10:19 AM

I have a wall full....and still buy more. Need more places to hide it

Loisrhunter 11-08-2009 10:20 AM

I like that......isn't it fun?

Loisrhunter 11-08-2009 10:21 AM

My husband plays golf...I've seen the membership dues, so I figure this is my equivalent expenses....

I have between 800 and 1000 yards of fabric. I still have to buy fabric to go with what I have to make a quilt at times depending on what I am making. Sometimes I'll have the border fabric and need to buy the coordinating block fabrics and some times it's the other way around.

I did pull almost all the fat quarters I needed to make the Orion Star quilt plus the borders and binding fabrics from my stash. The Orion Star quilt takes 28 fat quarters and I used three colors, pink, yellow and orange. I think I needed to buy three orange fat quarters for the whole quilt. I am still in the cutting stage.

This is a pic of the fat quarters I initially pulled for the Orion Star quilt. I ended up changing some of the pinks for lighter pinks and I found a couple of oranges that fit into the color range better.

Crafty1 11-08-2009 10:54 AM

I have bins and bins of fabrics and I still buy! As a matter of fact I just bought more fat quarters a few mins ago on ebay! Do I really need them, not really, but I want them

mpspeedy 11-08-2009 11:32 AM

There is no such thing as having to much fabric. I got involved with the Linus Project to give me an excuse to buy more.

judy_68 11-08-2009 11:41 AM

I am actually working on using alot of the fabric I have before I buy more. I am making alot of bags and quilts for Christmas gifts so hopefully I will use alot of what I have up.

I don't have very much but am always looking for more. I have limited budget for fabric so have to find specials.

Loisrhunter 11-08-2009 12:01 PM

You and I could be best buddies...

scrappy_quilter 11-08-2009 12:21 PM

I don't have the stash that some have but to me it is more than enough. I have been not buying for over two years and using from my stash to make my projects. Granted I have bought the occasional Kona white /black or special project fabrics but I am trying to be good and use my stash.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 11-08-2009 12:27 PM

I have 2 clear plastic shoe boxes of fabric.

littlehud 11-08-2009 12:46 PM

I have five very large totes of fabric, a set of three plastic drawers full of fat quarters and ten plastic shoe boxed filled with fat quarters and half yards. Now I am buying kits too. I don't have to hide it....my daughter came home yesterday with a kit she wants me to make and three more patterns she loves. My kids feed my addiction.

ekbuckeye 11-08-2009 12:54 PM

I'm ashamed to say that I binge-buy fabric that I just want to have, then don't want to use it because I'm afraid I'll see something else that I wish I would have saved it for! And that's with a 5 shelf cabinet, footlocker, and 7 or 8 large bins full. But, when I go shopping in my stash, I can always find something if I (or someone else) need it on the spur of the moment for swaps, comfort blocks, etc.

I need to borrow someone's hearing aid, cause I'm the same way, Ducky. I must have 100 yards or more and can find more to buy anytime I go in a store.

Do I buy more? Do I breathe?

I have 7 of the pattern cabinets, from stores closing, all full of fabrics. Each drawer is sorted more or less by background color, and about 2 dozen of the big plastic totes, all of them 66 qts., or bigger. I also have about 6 of the big black garbage bags full of scraps, which I hope that a couple of my friends will help sort/cut and make into lap size quilts for the local senior home and hopefully give some to the hospital gift shop for fund raising. Yes, I still buy fabric whenever I can.LOL

My DH has a few thousand $$$ invested in tractors. I figure I have a LOT of fabric to buy if we are going to even attemp to be even!!!! LOL

sewhappy57 11-08-2009 02:28 PM

My husband says I have way to much fabric and how could one person have so much? Here's the kicker, he's just talking about my sewing room fabric. He has NO idea of the tubs and tubs in the storage closet or the closet in the guest room thats totally filled and of coarse the baskets in the living room. HEHE! But I have a plan for it all, if I live that long! :D

Shemjo 11-08-2009 05:43 PM

I cannot even begin to determine how much fabric I have! I have it in 4 rooms and can't see it all at the same time! And I don't have anyone I have to answer to, so if I see fabric I want, I get it. However, I am trying to avoid my LQSs until I get all this sorted!

catlady506 11-08-2009 06:44 PM

I went from a closet to a small bedroom to a hugh room in the basement for my stash. Now it won't fit in the room in the basement so I am putting it wherever. I keep buying on ebay and from the stores.

I think we are addicts!!!!! lol

I don't drink or smoke so I figure this is my "Habit" lol

QuiltingGrannie 11-08-2009 07:51 PM

Try working in a fabric store (department) and not buying more fabric than you need ! My goal is to go a week without buying some. HA HA HA that hasn't happend in a long long time. I just started quilting a couple of months ago, and already have fabric I have no idea what I'm going to use it for. lol

earthwalker 11-08-2009 10:57 PM

I am amassing a huge amount of fabric, from long lengths to little bits from all kinds of stores and places. Confession for the day....Yesterday we had a big luncheon party, one of the guests kindly brought over some homemade preserves...now you know you put a fabric circle over the jar lid....guess where those circles are now!

paintedquilt 11-09-2009 09:30 AM

I only buy what I need .............Ya right  Its not my fault if "extra" material falls in my cart ....

In all honesty, I have six large drawers full plus 4 large shelves full :D

judithb 11-10-2009 09:11 AM

this material is so (sew) pretty! Be sure and post a pic of the quilt!

I have a lot of stash and will not purchase any more until I make up some of the kits that I have now.
Well, unless I see something that I really Must have....

mary705 11-10-2009 09:17 AM

I could probably open a small fabric store. I also stash my stash.

Rachel 11-10-2009 09:21 AM

you can hide your stash in a paper box in the bottom of the closet, under the bed, or in un-used luggage... I've got some rubbermaid totes downstairs, my hubby will never look there. or, if you have big pieces, hang them in the closet, he probably wont' go thru your clothes. tee hee and No, I've never done any of these things. HA. tee hee

scrappy_quilter 11-10-2009 09:27 AM

this is so bad - ya'll are encouraging others on how to stash their stash - too funny!
