Statement of Stash Flow

I saw the funniest thing on a quilter's blog: "The Stash Report." At first I thought it was an inventory listing of her stash yardage; much like a Balance Sheet. Nope, it was a Statement of Stash Flow! Fabric in, fabric out. Maybe we should all treat this quilting activity as a business; produce a balance sheet, statement of stash flow, and an income statement. Of course, the most difficult would be the income statement, as our quilting gifts are priceless!

Any pin pushers out there ready to take on the business statements???

erstan947 01-24-2013 07:51 AM

NO!!!! quilting is my escape from the rest of the world. I want NO accountability:) Keep us posted on how this works for you....lol

gabeway 01-24-2013 07:55 AM

I agree with erstan947. Not always knowing what I 'll find is what I love about stash.

valleyquiltermo 01-24-2013 07:56 AM

NO, No and No again. I would be to upset to know what I spend on my favorite hobby, LOL

Quiltngolfer 01-24-2013 07:57 AM

No accountability for me! I have enough trouble keeping up with my UFO's. My quilting is no business. I never make a penny from quilts. This is all just for fun and the love of giving.

That's what I love about shopping at thrift stores. It's the hunt!

DebraK 01-24-2013 08:00 AM

nope. Those details don't matter to me.

Teeler 01-24-2013 08:01 AM

Found 'stash' I suppose is a lot like finding a buck in the laundry, huh? Cuz I get WICKED excited about a buck in the laundry

patricej 01-24-2013 08:03 AM

i wouldn't dare try that.
i'd be so covered in red ink that some er doc would be sure i needed stitches somewhere. LOL

mighty 01-24-2013 08:14 AM

That is a scary thought!

memepat 01-24-2013 08:25 AM

No way. There are something's in my life I don't want to account for. Fabric and food for two !!!! Lol

rush88888 01-24-2013 09:02 AM

this is almost as scary as FIFO (First In First Out)!!! lol

Peckish 01-24-2013 09:05 AM

I've seen those stash in, stash out reports on blogs and always wondered why anyone would care. And I'm not being snarky, I really wonder that! I don't keep track of other people's stash, why would my inventory interest anyone?

erstan947 01-24-2013 09:13 AM

This thread is funny:) Don't mess with my money, weight, OR fabric! not necessarily in that order lol

I hate paperwork more each passing day. So I'm out-------------except maybe to read!

LOL, probably goes for most of us!

DebraK 01-24-2013 09:36 AM

lol, I know what you mean.

irishrose 01-24-2013 09:41 AM

Only if I didn't have to inventory and could start from January 1 when the fabric moratorium started. To do a balance sheet for this year would be interesting.

I agree. Better not to know!

Lori S 01-24-2013 02:10 PM

I will say ....I have been needing more output than input.

LynnVT 01-24-2013 02:16 PM

Fabric? What fabric? Oh, that's just a little pile of old stuff. And a few tubs of....things...I might need them some time. When the kids left home I just jammed a few handfulls of material in all the drawers of all the dressers that DH didn't fill with model railroad cars. What did I buy? Who, me? Just a bit of this and that. Hey, look what I made out of some old stuff I found in the bottom of the closet.
Accountability? Maybe keep a little book like the Weight Watchers points report? Spreadsheets and graphs? Hah! Not on your life.

MimiBug123 01-24-2013 02:37 PM

I don't want an inventory. That way, when I find something cool, that I'd forgotten about, it's like found fabric. No accountabiity here! LOL

mcdaniel023 01-24-2013 04:00 PM

No way!!! My DH would hold an intervention after we found the smelling salts and got him off the floor. LOL!

Now there's an idea. All the batiks and civil war repros you want as free points like veggies...everything else costs points and you can only use so many points. That's what I call a fabric diet.

Jan in VA 01-24-2013 05:09 PM

I don't do this. No. Nope. Not going to.
But, I doubledogdareyou to take this by your local quilt shops and see if *they* do!!:p (Apropos of another post today about quilt shops closing.)

EXACTLY!!!! My DH keeps saying that I have to make money to recoup some of the investment. I don't think so!

grann of 6 01-25-2013 04:46 AM

My DD is an accountant and I DO NOT allow her in my sewing studio. The closest I come to keeping track of my in-flow and out-flow is when I see an empty spot on the shelves, I know it is time to go shopping to fill it up again. I enjoy the ability to shop my stash when doing a project, and not having to comb my hair and gas up the car.

Hysterical!

paulswalia 01-25-2013 05:11 AM

I thought the original idea was fabric in, fabric out, not the money aspect. And I like THAT idea. I've joined the 2013 fabric moratorium here on the board and that's the only way I will justify any purchases. If some comes in, then a finished project has to go out.

Oh, am I supposed to be waiting for one of those? Maybe THAT's my problem!

Too funny - my son is going to college in Tampa and everyone down there thinks it's so funny our use of the word "wicked" they couldn't believe that it is widely used here. So naturally when i read your post I had to check your location. Was not surprised you are from the North East. I'm also from NH - the Seacoast area.

lovecreating 01-25-2013 05:56 AM

I hate paperwork too

AmyS 01-25-2013 06:03 AM

LOL, that's wicked awesome! I'm originally from East coast, transplanted in Kansas. I haven't heard that in years! Haha.. I love it!

As for keeping books, umm no way! Hubby would be in a coma, and he needs to bring home the funds for the stash! Yea, that would be scarey to know how much really goes in there.

kydeb 01-25-2013 06:47 AM

I already know more comes in than goes out. I don't think I could cope with just how much that is!! LOL

Caroline S 01-25-2013 07:17 AM

Statement of Stash Flow, I love it. As a former bookkeeper it really appeals to me. I already keep an Excel spread sheet of my vintage sewing machines and thrift store fabric purchases.

quiltmom04 01-25-2013 07:27 AM

No! No! No! I'm married to an accountant and I DO NOT want to consider quilting by the books! Enough numbers already! :)

mackenzie 01-25-2013 07:36 AM

Easy Peasy, when nothing else fits on the shelves, you reached your quota!

mackenzie 01-25-2013 07:37 AM

Forgot to add, then you start stacking on the floor.

solstice3 01-25-2013 08:57 AM

that is funny
