Do you think they are worth the money?

It is great. I have it on my sewing table with my small iron and don't have to get up to press my blocks.

Yep I have the 15 x 24. I'm an quilt gadget and tool addict.

I really like it. I can tell a big difference when I press a quilt block. It does not move at all so no distortion and it's perfect for pressing pieces with exposed bias edges or pressing bias binding. I noticed folding strips of straight binding I don't end up with fullness after pressing a length of it. I bought it at JoAnns with a rare 50% off coupon. It's two sided and very well made. The surface is a foam like fabric. There is a fabric you can buy that has the foam on the back side that will work the same when wrapped around a wooden board. Some one here posted about her DH buying some of the fabric I think at a home supply store and making her a board. It's some kind of heat proof fabric. I am thinking of buying enough of the fabric to cover my ironing board. I do know that these type of foam boards are used in high end clothes making shops.

If you find the fabric at a home supply store etc please post it here. I'd love to buy at least 12" of it. I can't afford the Steady Betty right now.

Here is the post where the foam back fabric is discussed.

Quilting D was nice to send me a sample of the fabric and it was like the Steady Betty to iron on, maybe not as thick but it worked fine. I've seen this type of fabric on long rolls at Hancocks some years ago.

The Steady Betty is also good for pressing machine embroidery pieces.

one must make absolutely certain that any foam backed fabric they use is the appropriate fabric for applying heat to.

Would hate to think of all the things that will go wrong if you place an iron on fabric that is NOT heat resistant!

I tried the sample of the foam backed vinyl I was sent with hottest sitting on my iron. The foam didn't scorch and the vinyl backing didn't even get warm. I would buy a small piece and test it before buying a large amount. This sample has no label or markings to know what it is.

just because it did not melt, does not mean that it is not releasing chemicals or gasses that can harm you. people tend to forget that by saving a few pennies, they are often using products that are NOT intended for that particular use, and they can be doing more harm that good!
