I love reading and seeing pictures of all your mini quilt kits. I am pretty uninspired about project storage; I have my current machine project hanging out in a square shoebox stored under my machine, sorted by pieces for chain-stitching into ziplocs. It's easy to grab and protected from sun, dust, and cat hair there.

For my hand-pieced projects, I keep a quart ziploc stashed in a round basket by my favorite chair. It has a small pair of scissors, favorite thimble, a pin cushion with a handful of needles and pins, thread, and anywhere from 5 to 10 blocks of my current quilt in there, all contained. The blocks finish up at 4 inches, so they don't take up much room. The whole thing is small enough to grab and stash in my purse at a moment's notice, and with the ziploc I don't have to worry so much about stray spills or nosy cats (or kids) stealing bits of my quilt when I'm not watching.

I have a couple of pretty tins I will have to keep in mind for longer trips...small enough to fit neatly into my smallest suitcase, but big enough to carry enough supplies to keep me busy for days, not just hours. Has anyone tried using a magnet on the lid to secure things like needles or scissors? I need to go find one to see if my needles will stick to it...that might be handier than a pincushion.

I have the same sewing box you have! Hmmmm. Thanks for the idea!

I don't mind using an old box, bag or throw away container for some things but something that I enjoy and use a lot I want something that makes me smile and looks pretty.
