I have never used it on purpose, but can't imagine doing FMGing with it. I'll have to give it a fair try and not just panicking when I hit it accidentally!

Start with the speed button on low, then move it up until you are comfortable with the speed.

I use. My s/stop button when I am doing machine embroidery because of the need to change thread colors frequently, but for regular stitching I use the foot pedal"............calla

When I found out the Pfaff 4.2 had the stop/start button I was disappointed that my Pfaff 4.0, didn't have one. But when I'm FMQing I set the speed control so that I have a consistent speed. I can press the peddle all the way down and it will still maintain the same speed. And I don't have to remove my hand from the fabric to push a button to stop. So I'm happy with my setup. But I do like all the gadgets on these new machines.

The start/stop button does give an even speed, so good for doing some FMQ or letting it run by itself for embroidery. But I still use the foot control for everything else.
|
I use the button exclusively. Don't know where my foot pedal is. I have very small hands and still have no trouble reaching my finger to stop. Probably will never go back to foot pedal again.
|
You do have control, even in a car, if you need to slow down or speed up, push the pedal, (car and machine) and then the foot pedal will take control and the machine auto piolet will disengage unless you push the buttons again.
|
Oh my I have to say foot pedal all the way. I could not even get used to the knee pedal on one of my old machines.
|
Please explain the start stop button, I am clueless, never heard of it. Thanks

Take a look at thread #68 that Donna Posted. She has a photo of the start/stop button on her machine. I have that button on both my inexpensive Brother and my Baby Lock machines. You set the speed control to the speed you want, push the start/stop button and the machine will sew at the speed you selected. When you want to stop, you simply push the button again. No foot pedal. I use it exclusively! Love it!
