Panther Creek Quilting 12-18-2009 08:57 PM

Okay so I was sitting here taking a break after quilting for every avaible hour today. And thinking to myself, I am sure I am not the only one!

Report and be counted!

Who is still finishing christmas gifts and what are you making? Only 6 days 'til Christmas, will you get it done. What will you do to get it finished.

Hopefully we can all cheer each other on.

I will report first.

I am binding a lap quilt for my son. (It will be done!)
I have sashing, backing and hand tying to do on DD's t-shirt quilt. (I am hopeful it will be done!)
I have blocks to piece (simple ones), sashing, sandwiching, quilting and binding (It will be done!)

I am holding on to hope.

amma 12-18-2009 09:17 PM

I am done with all that I am going to do for Christmas!!! I cheated and bought the last few gifts   The rest will get home made gifts next year
I am still working on a few quilty things that need to be done and out by the end of the month :D:D:D

Quiltgranny 12-18-2009 09:28 PM

I'm working to bring to a close a 3 year old project for my DH. Looonnnnggg story. Anyway. I'm at the machine quilting stage, so there is a light at the end of the tunnel - and it's NOT a freight train!! It's called "Happy Trails", aptly named for all the Roy Rogers fabrics used. It'll be close, but DH keeps telling me not to stress over it. He knows it's almost done, so there's no pressure. I'll share a pic when it gets done.

Happy stress-less sewing,

Karla in CO

sewnsewer2 12-18-2009 09:33 PM

Well I just finished what I was working on. I just had to make one more gift card holder. Finished a few minutes ago.

I only made two quilts for gifts this year and they have already been recieved in the mail. :D

Boston1954 12-18-2009 09:44 PM

I just tonight, finished 4 placemats for my husband Jim. I was having to push myself to do this and not be staring at the Christmas movies on television. They are finally wrapped up and under the tree.

rivka 12-18-2009 10:02 PM

I'm trying to finish a twin sized quilt for my mother-in-law. I just quilted about half of it tonight, with my machine frame, and I only have a little bit left to do tomorrow. And then on to my least favorite part...the binding. But I should finish this just in time, I think.

Teacup 12-18-2009 10:04 PM

OK, I'm heading toward stressed! I just got my doll quilt for the swap done this week and still have to get a Christmas stocking done for my grandson who was 1 on Thursday. Last year he was released from the hospital on Christmas afternoon, 8 days after a very quick and unexpected feet-first delivery. He was 6 1/2 weeks early. Since he wasn't supposed to be around until the end of January, I didn't have a stocking done for his first Christmas. But now I've had a whole year, and do you think I'm done? No. Started? No. But I do have a design in mind. I did snowmen for his sister's stocking and he is getting penguins. I've done a rough sketch but need to draw it to scale and begin cutting fabric first thing Saturday morning. At least all the shopping is completed and 75% of the wrapping is done. And I'm going light on baking this year. So maybe I'll make it. I had other projects I had hoped to get to, but since it was just hopes and not promises, I'm not going to stress over them...just add them to WIPs. But this one must be completed before Dec. 24 in order for Santa to come!

adrianlee 12-18-2009 10:52 PM

I'm glad I'm not alone for being stressed. I've one quilt half tied, this is a Christmas present. I have 2 more blocks to finish for another quilt which also is suppose to be done for Christmas. I am not sure I'm going to make it with that second one. It's not like I didn't know about these two as I've been working on them for months. Where does the time go?? Guess just having too much fun in the sewing room with too many "Irons" in the fire.

Leota 12-18-2009 10:56 PM

no gift stress for me... but housecleaning stress... dd coming in tomorrow evening....

elizajo 12-19-2009 06:20 AM

Sewing under a deadline at Christmas seems to be the norm for me. I do it to myself and then swear it'll never happen again......

I'm quilting DH's log cabin quilt this weekend. Lots of long diagonal lines-- thought they would be easy!! I'm still a novice at this, so as always there's a learning curve and lots of ripping. After that I need to make two pillowcases for DD and finish a flannel shirt that I'm refashioning into a tunic.

montanaquilter 12-19-2009 06:30 AM

i'm still working on gifts--table runners and potholder sets--almost done will finish. rag quilt, got the blocks cut need to sew, hopefully i will finish otherwise i'll have to go out and buy something! I so hope that i can finish all of these projects before christmas. next year i'm going to start way earlier so that i'm not so rushed to finish!!!

ginnie6 12-19-2009 06:35 AM

I have one lap quilt done...just needs to be washed. Another has the binding cut out and I'll put it on today. Need to cut binding for one more and put that one on. then i have a wall hanging to finish but I don't need to have it done till after Christmas. Oh and I still have a set of alphabet blocks to finish, a housecoat to make, and some Bible covers to make. Yea, I'm NOT stressing!

Paintbrushbrown 12-19-2009 06:43 AM

I am making purses for my daughter and daughter-in-law. The actual bag is finished, but there are some extras that go with them that aren't. Almost there!

I have to cut fringe on son-in-law's penguin polar fleece blanket. That is an evening TV project.

I added a new project yesterday...I know, I'm nuts...but we have a new baby on the way. His mommy is new to our family and not feeling very comfortable. She wants some really soft blankets. I am going to give one for Christmas, even though the child isn't here...just to ease things with mommy!

Other than that, I'm done!

Oh, I haven't started wrapping anything, but it isn't Christmas Eve yet! I'm not stressed in any way!!!!! eeeeekkkk!!!

So glad to see that I am not the only one. It seems no matter how early i start i always get down to the wire. It also amazes me how much a person can get done, if working with a time limit!

Okay, I had better get back to quilting.

kat112000 12-19-2009 07:03 AM

I am almost finished sewing the binding on a lap quilt. I have a queen size quilt to sew the binding on and I just started cutting out a twin quilt for my DH for Christmas!!! All presents are purchased and mostly wrapped.

Next year, ya whatever!!!!!! I will be in the same boat no matter what I tell myself!!!

Rose Marie 12-19-2009 07:09 AM

I thought I was done but was watching Quilters TV with El Burns doing Christmas at Bears Paw Ranch.
Got back in the mood and now am rushing to get a wall hanging done.

Marcia 12-19-2009 07:16 AM

My house is decorated, the cards are mailed, only 3 gifts left to purchase and most of the wrapping is accomplished.

But...........this weekend is all about sewing because I still need to.......

1-make pincushion/scrap catchers and sewing machine covers for 2 friends
2-make a purse for my mom
3-make an apron, tote and 2 pillowcases for my niece
4-quilt and bind a lap quilt

Oh, yes........I am going to be a sewing fool this weekend!!!!

BarbS 12-19-2009 07:29 AM

I have a tree skirt sitting in my sewing room that is 3/4 done......and I have picked out patterns to make everyone new Christmas stockings.......for NEXT Christmas.

I am fairly new to this and made myself a promise that I would not turn this into another JOB!! Looking forward to some time off of work after Christmas when I can hibernate for a few days in my sewing room.

judithb 12-19-2009 08:00 AM

I put 5 quilts in the mail last week and have 6 pillow cases to be wrapped. Two of the quilts were from downy.com. I have 2 more kits, but they will wait until after Christmas. I love to quilt, but don't enjoy the commercial aspect of the season. My biggest outlay besides Salvation Army and the Network of Communities is going to be the deductible on my car insurance because of a wreck last week. I live for the new year!! Hope ya'lll complete your projects in time. Not to worry a late quilt project is always loved!

Edie 12-19-2009 08:22 AM

I finished the Sampler Quilt for our son and daughter-in-law, got it washed and dried - it looks so cozy and froofy! (New word here, but you all know what a froofy new quilt looks like - and it'll never look like that again!). Cookies in the oven, getting ready to take plates of goodies to some of the neighbors sometime today and then head out and pick up three more things - too bad you can't quilt earrings for pierced ears!!!!!

Sad news to St. Paul, Minn. quilters! JoAnn's in Midway is closing down this Spring and will reopen on Cty Rd B-2 and Snelling. They are merging with the JoAnn's in that area across from Rosedale! I am so bummed I could spit! Now there is only one - repeat ONE fabric store in the City of St. Paul - Treadle Yard Goods on Grand Ave. Pricey!!!!!!! So, I 'spect I will have to really load up on fabric between now and Spring and perhaps the stash will outlive me - Gosh, I hope not! Too much to do!

Tree is up and beautiful, house smells so Christmas-ey!

So I am not stressed at all. Why be stressed. If you get it done, you get it done, if not, let the "quilting elfies" finish the job. Edie

judithb 12-19-2009 08:30 AM

Sorry to hear about losing your store! thank goodness for online quilt shops. I've had good luck with the few that i tried. I really like to feel the fabric first though.

Gigip 12-19-2009 08:36 AM

I'm finished with what I am giving this year.I made a couple of wall hangings and with the leftovers I made a bunch of small table toppers or candle mats. Our group at church made about 175 Chrismas stockings to be givien out as part of a community project. I didn't make those all by myself but I finished a lot of them.
I decided that next year I am going to make tree skirts for everyone and one for me too, that will be about 6. I am starting right after Chrismas.

PineyRiverQuilter 12-19-2009 08:37 AM

I need to finish handsewing binding on a table runner for son's Airstream. Been too busy working on remodel of our house and getting over a bad sinus infection to do much this year. Looking forward to "after Christmas" and getting back into my sewing mode. Merry Christmas All!

only a few more things to finish, so not too much stress in that department for me. My stress is dealing with troubled kids during a very emotional time of year. I am a foster parent and have a very troubled 13 year old boy who is struggling to make sense of his emotions, especially anger. I know to have most of these things done early because I never know what is going to come up as far as tantrums and meltdowns go.

I can't even list all my projects in waiting for Christmas -- makes me DOUBLE-STRESSED to think about it!!

Handstitching binding on 2 quilts for family, doll quilt for DGD to match her big quilt (which I have finished), slippers for 2 little girls, and who knows what else!!!

Merry Christmas everyone.

SuzzyQ 12-19-2009 09:11 AM

I'm working on quilted wallhangings to go into the quilt hangers that dad had finished already (shock! he ususally starts about now) I need 3 finished (1 per couple) but I'd like to have a couple extra so they have more choice. Right now I'm almost finished quilting one 32" square and the border is just being turned for the binding. Two are ready to be sandwiched for machine quilting and one is quilted ready to be bound. They WILL BE DONE!

Tink's Mom 12-19-2009 10:01 AM

I still need to FM a wallhanging for Mom...need to start baking...almost done wrapping...need to get 1 more thing for #2 son(got to be even)...decided to make a fleece blanket for my Uncle(this morning), now need to go get fleece. Oh, and I need to clean house...............

Gilla 12-19-2009 10:10 AM

Stressed isn't the word for it. I thought I would be done today, but... as I was trying to embroider my grandson's name on his flannel pillow case, the machine went kaput. The needle jumped clear to the right and hit the plate. It did that once before and a repair guy fixed it. 30 day warranty. So I just called him, Saturday, and he promised to get it fixed today so that I can finish it.
My new serger - in the middle of making another pillow case ran out of thread. Fortunately I caught it in time and was able to tie new thread on the old one so I didn't have to rethread the loopers - a nightmare.
Christmas dinner will be at our house so I'll have to clean off the dining table where I do most of my sewing. I guess I am not stressed, just busy.
No Christmas shopping this year, just sewing. I don't want to support China. The tree is up, a real one.
Merry Christmas, Everybody!

And how many cups of coffee did you have this am!!

lots2do 12-19-2009 10:16 AM

Well, I was supposed to make big fleece floor pillows for daughter and boyfriend but got a reprieve when DH found something else for them and suggested I make them for next Christmas. Am knitting two identical scarves in different colors on a circular needle for two older lady relatives...pattern has given me a little trouble but I'll figure it out.

Hope to get cards in the mail on Monday might get there late but oh well. Need to decorate our little Norfolk Pine tree from Lowe's.
Getting in the spirit here!
lots2do

Panther Creek Quilting 12-19-2009 10:51 AM

Still sewing but taking a break to eat dinner. I am half way done with piecing my daughter's blocks.

I guess I sould have titled it extremely busy Christmas Quilters, because I made a vow today not to get stresed. That isn't what the season is about.

KBunn 12-19-2009 11:00 AM

Ok...most of the presents are done... need to finish the trimming on DH's vest...tie a lap quilt....and finish cleaning up the fraying on a rag quilt for my FIL. Four quicke stockings to make and that will complete the list. Seems like alot left but compared to the list when it started I am doing great. Now I just need to clean the mess of my house that happens when I spend more time sewing and less cleaning!!

Harmony 12-19-2009 11:06 AM

I'm done with all my sewing projects, but still have to shop for my family, and I must say they're not being very cooperative with giving me ideas or hints! I may just get them all Amazon cards and be done with it!

Pam B 12-19-2009 11:07 AM

Well... let's see...right now (I am just taking a short break), I am tackling our dining room (where our tree sits in front of the huge window) 'cause one couldn't see the tree for the stuff I have piled upon the dining room table. Am trying to dismantle our old PC and take out the hutch it sits in since we have laptops and do not use anymore. (Had it in there when our children were younger so we could supervise.) That will allow more space for us to sit at the table.

Before Xmas Eve I need to make a stocking for our son's girlfriend who will be with us on Xmas Eve and Xmas morning. She and sonny boy will go to her family out-of-state then for the weekend.

After Xmas I must make 4 aprons and a raggy quilt for my side of the family...we do not get together till Jan. 2, thank goodness.

Hopefully, tonight I will get the binding on the Xmas quilt that I finally had long-armed back in Sept (yes, I procrastinate). Would like to get it on my bed before Xmas.

Looking at this list, I guess my little rest break is over now. Better get busy again.

fatnsassy 12-19-2009 11:09 AM

I am sure that I will be finished in time. We are having a meager Christmas this year and I'm making most of my gifts. I have made 4 casserole carriers and have one to go (and then one for me, but that can wait til after Christmas. I also need to finish crocheting a doily. I would like to make a few coasters, but I doubt if that will get done. But I have plans for next year, so I hope to get an early start for next Christmas.

BellaBoo 12-19-2009 11:44 AM

Deadlines on myself are too stressful. If I'm making handmade items for Christmas I start in January and if the items aren't finished by Sept. then I plan on something else as backup gifts. I do not open my mouth at any time to anyone to say I'm making you a _____________.

tucky46 12-19-2009 01:51 PM

I am madly hand tying a gecko quilt for my grandson....hope I can get it done as I have to finish my baking before Wednesday. That is when my daughter is having her Christmas Dinner as her hubby will be leaving for Afganistan right after Christmas for a year.

BellaBoo 12-19-2009 02:41 PM

I'll keep your SIL and your daughter in my prayers. God Bless our servicemen!

Joan 12-19-2009 02:52 PM

I have finished several table toppers, napkin holders, pot holder sets plus table runners. I still want to make "silly" aprons for all the female members of the family---one with dog bones for my DIL who loves her Pugs more than most people, one with Barbie type material (and lots of ruffles) for my stylish DD and one with lots of flowers for my other DD (who feels overwhelmed ALL the time, maybe the flowers will help)

Plus just finished assembling a Gingerbread House to be decorated at my Dad's house. (no I didn't bake it, it was a kit!--you silly billiys, I'm not that crazy.......)

What pattern do you like for your aprons?
