My husband set up the picnic table and plugged in my sewing machine and I went to town and finished this quilt for him. He helped by holding it onto the table so that it didn't get dirty on the ground.

I just love sewing outside in the breeze.

MamaBear61 06-13-2011 06:47 PM

What a great way to spend the day enjoying the great outdoors and quilting all rolled into one.

Kim Bohannon 06-13-2011 06:49 PM

oh, I would so enjoy doing that! I love to take my occasional hand sewing (and hand quilting) outside where I can enjoy the beautiful day

erstan947 06-13-2011 06:50 PM

Perfect day!:)

sueisallaboutquilts 06-13-2011 06:51 PM

Deanna, what a great pic!!!!!!! :D:D
We had a picture perfect day today and I spent it outside, not sewing, but enjoying every single minute :)
YEAH!!!!!!! :D:D

Linda71 06-13-2011 06:52 PM

Nice to see you are having good weather out there in Oregon :) I'm sure you enjoyed your day - I love sewing outside too!

rebeccai 06-13-2011 07:05 PM

What an awesome day!! :D By the way, I love your quilt! Your husband was so nice to get you all set up outside.

litacats 06-13-2011 07:14 PM

what a wonderful way to spend a day out in the sunshine doing what we love the best.
would love to see the finished quilt in full detail what I can see looks great. well done

Ramona Byrd 06-13-2011 07:16 PM

What a nice thing to do on a good day. Your DH is sure a keeper.
And I'll bet he loves his new quilt.

This really does take me back, way back to my childhood and watching Grandma in her rocking chair on the front porch. I was usually churning the milk for butter and buttermilk, but I got my turn on the needles but loved the old pedal machine a lot.

SandyinZ4 06-13-2011 07:19 PM

I would have never thought of doing such a thing. It looks gorgeous so show us a full pic of it when you get done. Nothing like being a bit unconventional. :-)

quiltinggirl 06-13-2011 08:04 PM

Glad to see you were able to get out and enjoy a beautiful day. :)

Grammy o'5 06-13-2011 08:22 PM

Haven't tried sewing outdoors, except for hand sewing! Hmmmm!
Even tho your pic is blurry, it still looks like a great quilt!

leiladylei54 06-13-2011 08:39 PM

Wow, sewing outdoors.....what a wonderful idea!!! Great job on the quilt, too!!!

quiltingcandy 06-13-2011 08:55 PM

That is so cool! It never would have occurred to me, I just open windows. You idea looks like more fun.

oma66 06-13-2011 09:28 PM

Sewing out of doors...how wonderful. I would love to do that except is was over 100 degrees today. Your quilt is fabulous. Even with a blurry photo we can see how fabulous it is. Lucky guy!

Well you knows that me and my cat wuv's you. Just shake your head yes, (shake it harder my friend!). You must have threatened him with Strip Yahtzee! I told you that would work!

What a hero that Charles is. I need a hero in my life. I actually have one, but he doesn't know it yet. ;-) Smooches from me and little BuBu.

justlooking 06-14-2011 02:01 AM

When we go camping, I take my sewing machine along and nine times out of ten, I sew outside. I have more room on the picnic table too!

sheree alexander 06-14-2011 02:09 AM

Quilting outside?
Now this is a new idea to me! Can it be considered a sport if you do it outside?
And such a beautiful quilt, too:)

girlsfour 06-14-2011 02:49 AM

First - lovely quilt. It's sooo colorful!

I too have sewn outside. At our cabin in Wisconsin while the fam is out boating. Just set the machine up in the shade, feel the breeze and go to town! If it's too windy it's kind of a drag though but that isn't too often.

QuiltMom2 06-14-2011 02:50 AM

Beautiful quilt, beautiful day! Thanks for sharing and keep on quilting!

Krystyna 06-14-2011 03:06 AM

Great minds think alike! I'm planning to put mine out on the porch. The quilt is a beauty, by the way.

Tartan 06-14-2011 03:17 AM

Oh, that sounds so nice! You could really see the quilting on the black better in the daylight. Great quilt, so colourful. Unfortunately, the sun and I don't agree very well. I don't tan but burn to a crisp. To sew away the summer in a nice covered sceened in porch, sounds like paradise to me.

Moonglow 06-14-2011 03:21 AM

What a great idea. Glad you enjoyed your day.

brendadawg 06-14-2011 03:22 AM

That's beautiful!

applegramma 06-14-2011 03:52 AM

What a great way to take advantage of a beautiful day out of doors. You've created a beautiful quilt as well!!!

Edie 06-14-2011 04:28 AM

I have sewed outside for years. Learned not to when it is windy out! Chasing all over the neighborhood for little squares. HOWEVER, today's the day!!!!!!! I am heading out to sew 412 squares together together and put together a baby quilt. It is going to be a gorgeous day today. RAIN TOMORROW - why not?
So, I'll listen to the birds, my audio book, visit with the neighbors as they walk down the alley and sew my blocks together. Depending on the day, I will either have a nice glass of wine or an icy O'Doul's!

Enjoy your outdoor sewing room! Edie

Ann L 06-14-2011 04:29 AM

Lucky you.

mimiknoxtaylor 06-14-2011 04:41 AM

What a great guy! What a treat to be outside doing something you love.

Val in IN 06-14-2011 05:00 AM

Lovely day, lovely quilt, lovely idea!

catladyquilts 06-14-2011 05:11 AM

that sounds like fun, being outside but still doing what you love. I'll have to show this to my husband and have him help be set up on the deck

pugmom 06-14-2011 05:12 AM

What a great day!!!

Chele 06-14-2011 05:17 AM

Definitely the best of both worlds. The quilt looks great!

flowerjoy 06-14-2011 05:33 AM

That is so pretty! I would love to sew outside too... but this time of year I would have to start at 5:00 a.m. and finish by 8:00 a.m. ... too hot and muggy here now. Maybe in the Fall or next Spring. For now, I just look out the window.

Sewfine 06-14-2011 05:34 AM

I love to sew outside. Love the quilt.

Dina 06-14-2011 05:42 AM

Beautiful quilt and great way to spend a beautiful day! It was 107 here yesterday...no outside sewing for me. (It has been over 100 for over two weeks, and the next week looks the same. :( ) But...it is cool in here and the sewing is great!

Cris 06-14-2011 06:01 AM

Fabulous colors!

missgigglewings 06-14-2011 06:04 AM

I want to quilt outdoors too! But with triple digit temps and no awning over the patio...no can do! Maybe its time to sew with a friend wo has an awing!

Becka 06-14-2011 06:16 AM

I LOVE days when I can do that. They are too few and far between. And I love, love, love that quilt.
