WalMart has the solid wooden tables at the best price I've found anywhere. They are called personal tables now instead of tv tables. LOL.
I have a wooden snack tray with a small portable ironing board on it, just like that, to the right of my FW. Very handy, especially when I PP.
Enjoy, Kutnso |
I love mine and I'm sure you will, don't know what I would do without it. Husband found my table at Goodwill for $2 a few months ago and fixed the top with fabric and I love it.

You have given me a good idea
Great idea - thanks for sharing!
I'm doing it. Great idea.
Once again this is what I love about this site- another wonderful new idea!! Thank you for sharing!
:D THAT is clever! If you need to buy a tray table, WALMART has them cheap.
Thank you for posting this one. :D Julie |
Thats awesome I took an old computer kepboard pull out tray and covered it, it works well for me, I just set it up on top of my ironing board and make the ironing board lower so I don't have to keep standing there. I like this idea too! Thanks for sharing

love this idea thanks!

That is a fantastic idea. I am going to be searching for a table that will fit in my room, so I don't have to keep running to the laundry room to press my seams. Hmmm - then I won't be getting my daily exercise though. . . .
That's a great idea. I'll have to look for one to make like that. Thank You for sharing.
Great ideas here. Read them all & now I will combine & make my version. Goodwill is a great source for the tables or garage/yard/estate/tag sales. I also buy lots of things off Craigslist locally. This would be a great fund raiser project for a Quilting or crafting guild or group too.
Very clever!
I love that - think I'll make me one - so much easier to move around than the ironing board.
I LOVE IT. geeezzzz I wish my brain could think of this stuff. LOL Thanks for sharing.
I've got one of those over-the-bed hospital tables Hmmm I see one of my first projects once I'm totally moved Thanks for the cool idea
This is really easy to make your own - I have several. Just take an old wooden TV tray (you can get one at Walmart for about $6). Pad it with cotton batting and cover with old ironing board cover. Pull edges tight and staple with heavy-duty stapler. I use mine all the time for classes and retreats. It is also great to put small revolving cutting mat on. Then you can cut, remove mat and iron all at same place and not have to move or share cutting areas, irons.
I did the same thing about 6 or 7 years ago with one of the old old tv trays and I love it. One of my sewing things I don't feel I can live without (LOL). Can take it down any time I want and use it in small areas, use it as a cutting table, etc.
I have one of those long banquet tables and I just slipped my ironing board under it so it's always handy. If you lower it just enough it slides right under the table with the wide end sticking out.
Really cool idea, I have one of those I was wondering what to do with, now I know!
What a clever idea. Thanks for sharing.
I made one of these and my cat uses it to sit on and watch me sew. It is real handy. Mine is right next to sewing machine so I don't have to keep jumping up.
That would be handy 'cept some days getting up to iron is my only exercise. Something to keep tucked away in the recesses of the mind though.
My grandson came over one day when I was complaining about always having to get up to iron when make blocks. He took an old lamp table base we weren't using, took a $5 mini/travel board from Big Lots and screwed it into the top of the lamp table base. It's the exact size I needed - perfectly level with my sewing surface. When the ironing board has 'had it', we just take it off and replace it with another one!
Ah Youth! |
Wow I did that last year nice to know i am not alone
It really is a good ides.

I made one as I do a lot of paper piecing and it stays right by my machine. Just a couple of layers of batting and I used a square of that silver ironing board cover stuff (can't think of the name) inserted into the top. Also great for appliqueing small pieces.

neat idea

I made one a while ago, love it.My dh and I saw three old tv trays on the side of the road begged him to stop,he did and now I can make two more and fold them up and put them on the carry thing
I purchased a fold up table from Walmart and put my ironing mat on it and I love not having to get up every time to iron a seam.
My friend came over and saw my set up and immediately went to Walmart and set up the same ironing area and loves it. |
I too, bought a tray at walmart and covered it with cotton batting and fabric to use for ironing near my machine. I did not drill holes in it and it has not warped. I think someone posted pictures last year of one they had made.
Wonderful idea ....
I have seen folding pressing tables in quilt magazines that look just like yours but of course they cost$$ Thanks for the idea.
How simple. Why didn't I think of it. So handy and easy to put out of sight. Thanks for sharing.
