Just found this posted on another site. I really like it and just happen to have an old table in the garage :-D :-D :-D

hperttula123 05-15-2011 01:17 PM

Oh, how cute!!! I am going to be keeping my eye out for one of those. I would love to have one right next to the machine so you don't have to get up and iron.

montanajan 05-15-2011 01:18 PM

I have an old wooden TV tray out on our deck - may have to pull it in and "repurpose it" into my sewing room - thanks for the pic.

CarrieAnne 05-15-2011 01:22 PM

Thats cute!

GGinMcKinney 05-15-2011 01:23 PM

Love it. Thinking turquoise fabric with pink, yellow & green butterflies.
Do I want to iron or just play with my fabric and have it available to look at?? He he

CQMadhatter 05-15-2011 01:23 PM

That tray looks just like the one I got from Walmart 2 years ago for 8.00<without the ironing surface of course.>

craftybear 05-15-2011 01:24 PM

OHHH?? I was just going to use some batting and staple on the fabric... :D
you think that would be good enough?

Yep i made myself the same thing from a wooden tv tray, covered it in batting & fabric that matchs my ironing board, very handy to keep next to the sewing machine.

craftybear 05-15-2011 01:28 PM

I saw the cats eye-balling the table. Mine would assume this is another bed for her to use.

rismstress 05-15-2011 01:38 PM

don't you need some of that heat resistant silver fabric underneath to keep from warping the table with the moisture?

Thinsulate helps, but the table will not warp if you first drill a few holes in it for steam to escape, then layer the batting and fabric over it. I made a large ironing board cover once with fabric cut to shape, and elastic, - made it like a large, but tight, shower cap & stretched it over the board. I added children's glove clips across the bottom to pull it tightly.

What a great idea....thanks for sharing with us

ann31039 05-15-2011 02:08 PM

i've got one of those. i wonder if i could quilt a cover to fit the top and then elastic it so it would be removable and wash it?

chairjogger 05-15-2011 02:11 PM

Agree ! A very cool idea !!

fidgety 05-15-2011 06:27 PM

I have these trays but not sure my DH would like it if one came up missing. lol.. If I had room in my little space I would definetly make on tho.

SYLVIA HACKE 05-15-2011 06:30 PM

Great idea, i will making one for my sewing room which is my favorite room.

normasews 05-15-2011 06:46 PM

I agree...It's a pretty cool idea! I may have to try it myself.

I purchased one just like that at Wal Mart. Gave 8 or 10 $ for it. It does come in handy. As you said, right beside my chair for pressing or trimming as I sew.

jeaninmaine 05-16-2011 02:30 AM

Now I know what to do with that wooden folding tray I was trying to decide whether to take with me when I move or not.Perfect timing. Thank you and thanks for the link on how to do it.

BMP 05-16-2011 02:54 AM

A group of us made them a few weeks ago, we made our covers with elastic so we could remove them. We got the table at Walmart for $8.50

klc 05-16-2011 03:02 AM

I never thought to make mine into a permanent pressing table. I have one right next to my machine with a non-skid mat and my reversible cutting and pressing board on top of it. It works great for pressing seams. I can still take my mat to classes.

19angel52 05-16-2011 03:33 AM

definitely COOL...and am going to borrow that idea!!! Thanks!

Carol J. 05-16-2011 03:46 AM

Great idea, I showed it to my DH and even he thought it was a great idea. I have to have one and will tell my sister and DD and everyone else about it, would save so many trips to the ironing board, which I don't have room for in here.

I had my husband make me one of these several years ago, i had seen one at a quilt show one time, and thought i know he could make one for me, just like this. I just love it, i use it all the time, i keep it next to sewing machine, It is so much easier pressing blocks, you dont have to get up and down up and down. Just turn your chair and press. Periodically i have to change the top, thats real easy to do.

charlotte625 05-16-2011 04:18 AM

now why didn't I think of that? I have 0ne sitting next to my machine with 2 old bath towels on it and have used it for last 5 years..........look out table here I come!!!!!

I purchased a plastic table at Wal-Mart, covered it with warn & natural then purchased one of the smaller ironing board covers. This ironing board cover that I purchase was square and if memory serves me well I got that from JoAnns. I then worked and sewed until this ironing board cover fit that table. I have it sitting next to my sewing machine and I just love it.

I also have a small Rowenta Iron I got from Hancocks to stay at my ironing board.

Thanks for the link Craftybear. You are awesome, as usual.

RE Table ironing board. For years I have used a small portable ironing board set on top of my waste basket when needed',it works fine and then I just need to store the board till I need it again. It fits in nice and snug so I don't have to worry about it tipping over. Just thought I would share, of course it isn't as cute as the one featured here,

quilter42 05-16-2011 04:58 AM

have had one for 5 years couldn't sew without it

Yooper32 05-16-2011 05:07 AM

I bought a two-tray set at an auction Sat. for just this purpose. I just put one of my June Tailor boards on it, ironing padded on one side and cutting board on the other.

sewnsewer2 05-16-2011 05:15 AM

Cool! I never would have thought about that.

JNCT14 05-16-2011 05:20 AM

I picked up a $2.00 folding tray table at the thrift store and upholstered it with batting and leftover outdoor fabric. I don't use it for ironing - I keep it in my living room as a small worktable for current hand or applique projects then fold it up and put behind couch when I don't have anything to work on in the living room. I put two dowels on it to hang things and some hooks. Works awesome!

wyogrannie 05-16-2011 05:20 AM

Is that a TV table?

Maureen 05-16-2011 05:27 AM

Amazing, what a great idea. Can't wait to make one.

GrandmaLola 05-16-2011 05:33 AM

I did the same thing, and I LOVE it! It's great to set it next to the machine where you can just turn and press and just keep on going! I already had the little table. However, I didn't cover the table top, but had another board about the same size, and covered it for ironing. The neat thing is that the table folds up flat and can be tucked out of the way when not in use.

running1 05-16-2011 05:38 AM

Isn't it genious! I saw one last week at a quilt class... Very handy!!
