I have been collecting 30s reproduction prints, and I'd like to make the cutest quilt in the world out of them. I'm open to any and all suggestions!

The cutest ones I've seen made with 30's prints are dresden plate ones....IMHO :)
|
I also like bullseye blocks.

Third place would be Sunbonnet Sue and I'm thinking Dolly Days would be awesome in 30's prints. |
Search for "Ode to the 1930's" quilt pattern on the Web and you will see all sorts of blocks to get your creative juices started or you can buy the pattern and make one gorgeous quilt. Wish I had done that with mine.

You could do a sampler, dresdon, postage stamp (depending on the size of the print), log cabin, etc. The possibilities are endless!
|
Im working on a 'braid' quilt using all those 30's prints...... will add white strips in between.
|
30's are my favorite fabric. I think anything is great done in 30's. My row robin is a 30's sampler. I have so much if it I'll be able to make 4 or 5 large quilt top from mine. Can't wait to see what you decide.

Eleanor Burns has a really neat pattern book out called "Egg Money Quilts". All the quilts are made from vintage or 30s repros. Great pictures, easy to follow instructions. And, the patterns are what you would call "period specific". I have made a few from this book, and every once in a while make another block for the sampler.

Here's mine. I love those 30's fabric.

I am working on a Grandmother's Flower Garden, which uses hexagons. I am doing it by hand using the English Paper Piecing method. I started this project to have hand work to take with me whenever we travel.

LeeAnn, your quilts are gorgeous!
I've been working on a sampler using 1930s fabrics; it will be finished someday. Here is a baby quilt I made a few years ago. |
There is an adorable 30's prints quilt in the package of templates of Winner's Bouquet by Atkinson Designs. My DSIL bought me the set for my birthday, and I ordered some really neat FQ's from Connecting Threads. Some of the FQs were only 62 cents in their reduced section! Score!
I can't wait to make that quilt ... just have to get brave enough to try curves. |
Try a hanky panky pattern!

LeeAnn, wonderful quilts!
I'll have to drag out my work-in-progress 30's quilt and take a picture. I am so in love with it and I don't know why I haven't finished it. It's just small half square triangles (white & 30's print) and it's so colorful and fun. |
So many great options coming your way....good luck deciding
|
Beautiful quilts!
|
I have made a grandma's flower garden quite successfully.

Take a look at this site... you'll be happy you did: http://quiltinaday.com/theater/egg/egg2.html I loved it so much I purchased the book at Joann's. |
I think most anything looks good in the 30's prints! The very older, traditional patterns are probably the best like Wedding Ring, Grandmother's Flower Garden, Dresden Plate. However, I've made Yellow Brick Road and Turning 20 with them too. And I have a friend who's used black background with them and it was stunning. However, I tend to like the white background but not quite white. I use the Kona snow as my background whenever I can.

LOve all the suggestions. I have a ton of 1930's repos from a yard sale. My daughter called me and said someone had a big box of fabric. I told her to offer $5. They took it. When I washed and refolded it there are about 110 yards of fabric. 1930"s fabric isn't really my style I am more of a batik and brights person. I have been using it mostly for baby and donation quilts.
|
I also love 30's. Have made a few quilts, but favorite was dresden plate for my granddaughter. I thank you need to stick to the older patterns. Have fun with them.
|
I collect them also, I think a dresden plate or grandmothers fan would be lovely.
|
wow, what gorgeous quilts!!!! i just love the talent on this board!!!!!
|
I made a "Twin Sisters" quilt and a "Box" quilt out of reproduction fabrics. Both turned out really nice.
|
Definitely Dresden Plates. OR you can sell all those fabrics to me LOL LOL

I love the 30s print and am also working on the Grandmother's Flower Garden, using freezer paper rather than basting the fabric. I do use the pre-cut hexagons for some of my white (sidewalk) that goes around all the flowers. You can keeping purcasing the 30s fabric and make the quilt as large as you like. The GFG is so convenient to work on at doctor appointments and watching ball games on TV. I also used the 30s print for the double wedding ring quilt since I already had the 30s print in my stash. |
Have you seen the post, "trying to use up this fabric," below, by IngeMK? Her quilt looks like 30s prints, and is gorgeous! She even gives the name of her pattern and its source. Take a look!
|
I am doing a 30's quilt right now. I have a book of classic quilt blocks. I am making all different classic blocks with the 30's fabrics and a simple white fabric as the background. I am going to set them on point and have piano keys as a border. I haven't prewashed the fabric because I want it to crinkle up like an old quilt when I wash it.
I am also thinking of doing the Dresden Plate. That would be beautiful in 30's fabric. |
If you can find the book "Cotton Candy Quilts" by Mary Mashuta there are a TON of Darling quilts in there that use 30's prints.
|
i like basket blocks done in 30s fabric
|
Log Cabin quilts are pretty in the 30's.
|
Oh YES, I have seen a 30's quilt made from the templates and it is to die for. Do it, for sure. The one I saw used confetti as a background fabric instead of white. I have one started but you know how that goes (into the stack of many waiting).

hearts and Apron Strings. A free pattern I don't know how to add the link maybe you could google it
