I have this quilt top that i am doing for our guild charity quilt fund to buy batting and backing for our charity quilts I need to add borders but am at a loss what to do any suggestions on style and colors

alleyoop1 05-23-2013 04:53 AM

Your quilt is beautiful! I'd buy a raffle ticket on it!!!
I think the dark blue would make a nice border. I am particular to flying geese. You have so much going on it the quilt that maybe just a plain border would set it off nicely.

HillCountryGal 05-23-2013 04:57 AM

My choice would be a dark fabric for the border. There's a lot going on in the quilt and a dark (reads solid) border will let your eyes rest. :)

sweetpea 05-23-2013 04:58 AM

I'm will alleoop a small plain dark blue would make a nice resting place for the eyes. just my 2 cents worth. love the quilt.

northerncreations 05-23-2013 05:15 AM

Beautiful quilt. I agree -- dark plain border would be best. Congratulations on a job well done and best of luck on the raffle ticket sales.

nabobw 05-23-2013 05:16 AM

nice top

lfletcher 05-23-2013 05:19 AM

You could just bind it as is. I think that last border you have on now is really nice and could be your final border.

SusanSusan33 05-23-2013 05:28 AM

What a gorgeous quilt! Can I buy a ticket?

Exactly what I was thinking!

It's a lovely quilt ... bind it the way it is now.

mckwilter 05-23-2013 05:44 AM

I like the dark turquoise fabric and think it would make a nice border, then use a dark blue for the binding. And I would buy tickets, too.

DebraK 05-23-2013 05:47 AM

I like this idea too.

susie-susie-susie 05-23-2013 05:59 AM

Beautiful quilt. Unless you want it bigger, I would bind it just the way it is. It should make a lot of money for your guild.

I like the red for the final border and binding. I, too, would like to buy some tickets.

fromzstore 05-23-2013 06:02 AM

thanks for all the suggestions i was thinking of a solid for the border also would really like to make it bigger will post pictures when finished and would love to send you some raffle tickets when we have them available.

Tartan 05-23-2013 06:08 AM

Very pretty so far! It looks square right now and I prefer rectangles for quilts so I would add a a row of the center red stars to the top and bottom. Then I would add a red order all around? It would also look nice with the square set on point and triangles added especially if you did intricate quilting in the triangles.

sewmary 05-23-2013 06:48 AM

My first thought - doesn't need another border. The one on it is beautiful as is.

It really is a great top.

Treasureit 05-23-2013 06:52 AM

Narrow turquoise and wider red... making is consistent

I agree with Mck here, it doesn't need much.

It is a beauty!

ArtsyOne 05-23-2013 07:20 AM

Beautiful! I would bind at this point with a dark binding to frame it.

Annie68 05-23-2013 08:46 AM

I would go with a dark blue solid border. Lovely quilt!

joyce888 05-23-2013 09:09 AM

I think of your dark colors would look nice.

Marilynsue 05-23-2013 03:37 PM

Why does it need a border? I love it just the way it is......any one of the fabrics would make a nice binding. Love your quilt!

Gorgeous quilt! Love the color combination!

I would audition 2 plain borders. First, a narrow one in a color not in the outer edge. Try yellow, turquoise or coral here.

For the second, I would try a wider border in one of the reds or the dark blue/black??? One of the combinations will please you more than the others.:)

fromzstore 05-23-2013 05:03 PM

OMG how did you do that

bearisgray 05-23-2013 05:27 PM

If it's large enough, I think it would look complete with just a binding added to it.

I really like it.

Kcmomto2 05-23-2013 07:39 PM

Piano keys in the black, cream, tan of your square-in-square blocks? (I love the top!)

tessagin 05-23-2013 07:43 PM

I think one of the darker colors would be good to make everything pop. But just like that. You got a lot of creative work going on. Any more than that might take away and be too much for the eyes. Love it!

amelia0607 05-23-2013 08:31 PM

Bind with dark blue would be my first thought.

Aria 05-23-2013 09:28 PM

I like it the way it is. I would probably bind it in red. If you really want a border, I would make a narrow one in red, and still bind it in red. This is a very nice quilt!

petthefabric 05-23-2013 10:53 PM

I think it looks complete as it is. You said you wanted it bigger so here's my thoughts. Continue the dark square at the corners another time. Then make a border of the light peach and dark teal

quilttiger 05-24-2013 02:11 AM

Wonderful suggestions! My personal choice would to use a solid color binding only. Since you would like to use a border, there is no doubt it will look fantastic as well. Whoever wins the raffle is lucky!

janiesews 05-24-2013 03:40 AM

Beautiful!!

gramacheri 05-24-2013 04:19 AM

A dark blue border (wider than the very light one between the red) would look very nice then maybe a red one too. I think plain would be the way to go since there is so much going on in the quilt itself. Beautiful quilt!

pinkcastle 05-24-2013 04:51 AM

Of the fabric auditions KarenK posted, I like the first one best and I would make the inner border narrower. Beautiful quilt. You did a wonderful job!

quiltmaker52 05-24-2013 05:30 AM

This is absolutely gorgeous! Did you design this yourself? You are so creative. I would simply bind it with a dark color, or, if it needs to be larger, use a dark border. Would love the pattern.

cpcarolyn 05-24-2013 06:20 AM

Pretty quilt.

Rose Bagwell 05-24-2013 06:30 AM

The dark blue or green you have would be a make a great border and make the rest of the quilt pattern pop.

Scissor Queen 05-24-2013 06:33 AM

I would go against the majority and do another pieced border of some type. Even piano keys would be better than just a plain border. You could take any one of your pieced borders and repeat it or you could add checkerboard boarders.

Emma S 05-24-2013 06:40 AM

Really love the quilt. I agree with most people, a darker border with a smaller inner border would frame the quilt and give the eye a place to rest. Using blenders rather than a solid would make the contrast a little less stark, and as the name implies, blend with the design.
Karen: Great design tool, nice to see in in the fabric.

I agree! I think a pieced border would be overkill and a plain border would look like you were just thing to make it bigger for no reason. I think it's perfect the was it is!! You did a great job!
