I just have to try this: º, ¢
It does work but like someone else said, I have to use the numbers at the right end of the keyboard. Not the ones at the top.
Thanks.

Babs194068 02-16-2011 02:19 AM

Thank you I never knew that

didi 02-16-2011 03:06 AM

Yooper32 02-16-2011 03:12 AM

Another symbol is the cents '¢' symbol. Simply press down the 'Alt' button with one hand, punch in the numbers 155, release the 'Alt' button and like magic the cent '¢' symbol will appear.
No, you need to use the numbers pad at the right of your keyboard, not the ones up above.
I hope this helps someone, it is just a little knowledge and timesaver.

Boo hoo, I can't make it work - is it because I have Windows XP?

anicra 02-16-2011 03:52 AM

On my MacBook, I hold down the option key and press zero for degree and for the cents symbol - hold down the option key and press the dollar sign (number 4). º¢¢º

Just something else to try to remember. Punch 4 keys instead of 5, okay....

GladGrams 02-16-2011 04:15 AM

Doesn't work on a Norwegian/foreign keyboard...

JoyjoyMarie 02-16-2011 04:16 AM

º¢ Looks like mine only works on the keypad. Thanks so much for sharing- I always knew there was lots more to know about this computer- but I don't know what to ask!!

Thanks Diane - I never thought to share this info on this site ----this website has several ALT characters. Someone sent this to me. Have fun!

quilt3311 02-16-2011 05:01 AM

Thanks for sharing information. I knew a few of these but never could find the page with a list of them on.

Dodee 02-16-2011 05:02 AM

Mornin'. Thank you for those symbols. I knew how to do the degree one but not the ¢ sign. Somewhere on the internet there is a whole page of the. I printed it off years ago, and will see if I can find it later today.
Thanks again.

maxtruax32 02-16-2011 05:02 AM

Thanks. I always assumed there was a way to do it, but I bought my computer when I was 0ver 70 and have to figure things out without the basic concepts. Being 79 is challange enough!!!

Homespun 02-16-2011 05:14 AM

º ¢ Thank you!!!

countryone77 02-16-2011 05:15 AM

Thanks for pointing out the MacBook's codes. I also tried it with
<shift><option>number and got some different codes. I then tired it (<option> and <shift><option>) with the alphabetical keys and got more.

On the Mac <shift><option><k> gives the Apple logo. Cute!

zennia 02-16-2011 05:25 AM

MaryAnnMc 02-16-2011 05:28 AM

For all of us Mac users, it's a little different: hold down the "Option" key while hitting the 4 (the $ sign, get it??) for cents, and the 0 for degrees. It's very intuitive, so I just guessed.

Karyn 02-16-2011 05:34 AM

º ¢ Thanks for sharing, learn something every day. I just do the same things on my computer all the time, nice to pick up a few pointers!

farmquilter 02-16-2011 05:43 AM

The scale that I use is found here: http://www.asciitable.com/ I have XP and they work for me, so I printed it out for easy reference. Will also print out information from the other sites.

Fabaddict 02-16-2011 05:50 AM

The secret is remembering the code.

Easier said than done! lol I keep a spiral bound index card book to jot things down to remember, easier to refer to that than the wear and tear on my brain!!! Just sayin'

It doesn't work on my laptop either. I'll try on my desktop at work. Thanks for the tip though.

I have an HP Vista - doesn't work on mine! See? Nothing! Edie

patsyo56721 02-16-2011 06:02 AM

Sorry but it doesn't work for me.

stichinluvr 02-16-2011 06:03 AM

Thanks! I didn't know that but always wished I could do it.

brightstar_202 02-16-2011 06:07 AM

that was cool but it did not work on my computer. Why?

Scakes 02-16-2011 06:15 AM

Weird. It doesn't work on the regular keyboard but if I jump to the other side and use the number pad it works fine.

Always wondered how to make the ¢ sign. Thanks a bunch.
