Ta DA!! They are IN!! in One Day...New Machines Arrived!

4 Attachment(s)
Well, I had a big surprise yesterday! I ordered my machines on Tuesday and was told they they would be intoday or tomorrow, Friday. I thought that was pretty fast! Nope! They came in yesterday! Woot! One day!! My hubs was in the area forbusiness too and was able to pick them up! That saved me a two hourround trip plus the time in the shop! I had to wait until late lastnight though as we had Scout meetings when he got home from work.Talk about torture! LOL!!!

My first impressions of the F600 arethat it is slightly smaller than I thought (feel the same about the2010) but they are not weak machines. Design is very similar toBrother and I'm impressed with the overall feel of the machines. Where the outer casing is not as sturdy as maybe other machines outthere, the feel of the mechanics is solid. The 2010 is HEAVY!! theF600 is not too heavy but enough that you wouldn't want to lug itaround everywhere all the time. These come with lots of feet and sofar I think I really like these! For the price, I'm glad I went withthem. I saved some $ by going with the semi-local guy and got themin no time at all. While they may not be a Janome 8900 (with it'sBarry White voice, ~sigh~) they are durable and I am thinking will bethe trusty old friend you have forever through thick and thin, theynever let you down. That is what I want more than anything!

The stitching on these seems VERY good, easy to adjust when needed but honestly, you don't really need toexcept for FMQ. Which, speaking of FMQ, I was immediately struck byhow much better I could do it with the 2010 vs. what I had been ableto do on my Viking. This 2010 is really made for it. I still have along way to go with learning how to do pretty designs but thismachine will surely get me there faster!

The lighting is fantastic even thoughmy pictures won't reveal that. Very bright, well placed and noissues seeing. These machines come with lots of presser feet and soforth, are easy to figure out and the manuals are pretty good(Husqvarna's is the best I've seen even though I hate to say anythingnice about them, that much is true). But these get you through thebasics and how to use the machines..which is pretty straight forward.

Hmmmmm.....not much else to say rightnow. These are my first impressions. Oh! They are very quiet andvery smooth. That surprised me the most. I wasn't sure what toexpect for sound but they are pretty quiet. I also think that theone thing I will need to add is a FMQ slippery surface mat for the2010. I found that my little sandwich did not slide very well ontheir extension table. That was annoying. I even have gloves and aFabulous Fabric Glide...which I've been less impressed with andreally never use. I thought it would help out today but the fabricjust kind of bunches and is not smoothly sliding. I think one ofthose super glide mats will fix that problem. I also have aStyrofoam set that I made for my other machine that makes a HUGEsurface (like a ginormous extension table) and with a clear vinylsshower curtain on it it makes it slippery, but the mat would make itslick for up near the needle and that is going to be a must.

Ok, that's the long and short of it. Thanks for all the input ladies...after I've finished a project or ifI have any questions, you will all hear from me with pics andcomments (later impressions).

Oh how exciting! Congratulations on your new machines. I hope you have many hours of enjoyment on them.

Cari-in-Oly 10-01-2015 10:41 AM

Congrats! I've been following your machine saga but haven't posted til now. A couple years ago I was gifted the lower end Juki 27 and really like it except that it's noisy. If I didn't love my vintage Brother (and a few Singers) machines so much I'd get a Juki.

I have the F600 and love her! Hazel is an awesome work horse. I have had for about 2 or 3 years can't rememer when I bought her exactly and not one bit of trouble out of her. She is amazing! I hope you are as happy with the Juki's as I am.

Woo hoo! Sounds super. I too was surprised about how heavy the 2010 is... and I also significantly improved my FMQ once I had it. Just one note - a FMQ teacher that I took a class from locally always used Turtle Wax on her extension table (she had the Brother machine that's exactly the same as the Juki). It does seem to help. I had bought the Supreme Slider but to be honest, I'm not a fan. :) Nor do I like the Machingers gloves because they make my hands too warm. I use a pair of gardening gloves I bought at CVS!

Jingle 10-01-2015 12:16 PM

I have one like the last one. I use it all the time now to quilt my quilts. I love it, it is 5 years old and I service it myself.

tessagin 10-01-2015 12:24 PM

Christmas came early!!

ManiacQuilter2 10-01-2015 12:27 PM

Yes, I can understand the "torture" part. Have fun.

Cybrarian 10-01-2015 01:37 PM

So happy for you!!! Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! Looking forward to seeing your creations!

Dina 10-01-2015 01:51 PM

I bet you have spent the whole day enjoying them!!! Or at least part of it? You are all fixed up now.

Luv Quilts and Cats 10-01-2015 02:14 PM

How great that you got them sooner than you thought. I hope you get lots of hours of enjoyment out of your new friends! Now go and play with fabric! LOL!

Onebyone 10-01-2015 02:15 PM

New sewing machines are always exciting! Enjoy!

NJ Quilter 10-01-2015 02:38 PM

Congrats on your new machines. I know several folks that have industrial Juki's. If I was looking for a workhorse beyond my current Viking Platinum, that would be the way I would go as well. I know, you aren't happy with your Viking but mine has been a dream. Are you keeping it as a back up even though you now have 2 new machines? Did the Juki guy give you a trade in?

Sharonquilts 10-01-2015 02:48 PM

Quiet ... yes! That was the first thing I noticed when I was machine shopping and what sold me on the Juki F600 over a Janome. Well, the price was considerably less too, but every machine I tried seemed a lot noisier. I guess I'm going to have to check out the 2010 for FMQing. There are a lot of good comments on this Board re: the 2010. But I really want the Juki longarm w/a frame ... just not in my budget right now. Have fun!

tallchick 10-01-2015 02:59 PM

Yay!!! Have fun with the twins :) I am sure you will love them !!!!

bjchad 10-01-2015 05:01 PM

Congrats! Getting a new, good machine is so great! Two is four times as much fun!

boykinsmommy 10-01-2015 06:35 PM

Me too DonnaC....I had looked atquilter's gloves but they were so expensive! I thought a cheap pairof gardening gloves would do essentially the same...and they do! Costa lot less that's for sure. My hands still get hot even though mineare cotton. Maybe an official pair for Christmas from my mom buthonestly, why spend the $$? Gardening gloves work great!

zozee 10-01-2015 06:43 PM

Woohoo! I'm so happy for you. I hope your weekend is free and clear to enjoy the new prezzies. :) :) :)

boykinsmommy 10-01-2015 06:49 PM

You ladies are all so awesome! I lovesharing the excitement. I live in a house full of men, believe me,they are not impressed. LOL!! Then again, I suppose if my husbandcame home raving about a new set of golf clubs I would probably notbe impressed either. Still, it's so much fun to read everyone'scomments and share the fun.

NJ Quilter, no, they Juki guy wouldn'tgive me a trade for my Viking. Neither would the other shop not farfrom him (they were the ones who are Janome dealers but only wantedto sell me an Elna.....weird).

So, my Viking is heading to the shophopefully this weekend or next week. The owner/repair person isn'tback into her shop until next Friday anyway so I've got time. I amhoping it will be fixed and then, I am just not sure what to do. Idon't really need 4 machines (my little brother one could be tuned upand used for a portable/back-up. Not to mention that the 2010 can dopiecing as well so in a sense, it is a backup as well and the F600can do FMQ so the two back up eachother). I think I'm going to sellit but only if I use it for a while and am sure that it is ok. Ijust can't feel right about selling it to some poor person who thinksthey are getting a good machine and they fork over money to feeltaken advantage of. I just can't be that person. So we will see. Ihave a friend and her daughter who want me to give them quilt lessonsso I will be able to have them use it and that should determine whatkind of shape it's in.

So far today I put together thismorning my 2010 and threaded it up, practiced some FMQ and that wasit. I teach until around 1:30pm and then it's lunch, clean-up, housechores, get kids ready for any evening activities. Today was cleanout the craft room day (I just can't work in a mess!) and I had madea Christmas Tree Skirt for a Bridal Shower for this weekend. Ineeded to pull it out, press it and wrap it up plus make a card.

I made a quilt label with the letteringfeature on my F600 and it came out SUPERB!!! My Viking which is$2000.00 more than this machine didn't make letters anywhere near asgood as this Juki! Very impressed. I'm not a fan of machinelettering but this came out really great! And for SO MUCH LESS!!

Thanks again ladies....it's fun toshare. I don't have any friends who quilt so coming on here andsharing the excitement means a lot. <3

boykinsmommy 10-01-2015 06:51 PM

OOPS! Didn't mean to leave out anyguys that may be on here! I realize there are guys who quilt and I amso glad they do! I keep telling my hubs he should give it a whirlbut he just thinks I'm crazy. LOL! Sorry if I hurt anyone's feelingsbut leaving them out!

Jeanne S 10-02-2015 03:17 AM

So glad all is well and you are enjoying them. I just have not got the hang of FMQ yet, but the 2010 does superb with the walking foot for straight line and wavy line quilting. Keep us posted on how you do---maybe I will work on it again!

Quiltngolfer 10-02-2015 03:43 AM

Congratulations on your new machines. What a nice review you have done on them with your experience so far! I look forward to hearing your thoughts after you have used them for a while.

sassysews2 10-02-2015 04:20 AM

before you invest in a superslider, try waxing the bed and extension with car wax, the kind you rub on, it gets foggy then you polish off. I have the Juki TL 98 and I do lots of FMQ and the waxing has helped lots more than the superslider.

thread mess 10-02-2015 05:34 AM

I have both of these machines!! I love them both. Yes, I too was a little disappointed that the 600 was not a metal casing, but it is a true workhorse! I also expected a little more of the embroidery - but I'm still happy; they are easy to use and the manuals are easy to follow. Good Luck!!!!!

Sewnoma 10-02-2015 05:51 AM

I love how your post is just glowing with excitement! Congratulations on your new tools! I haven't used a Juki but I hear good things about them - I hope you love using them!

Girlfriend 10-02-2015 06:49 AM

I hope this doesn't sound like a stupid question, but why did you buy 2?

Friday1961 10-02-2015 07:05 AM

How fun! Christmas in October! I know nothing about Juki, have never even sewed on one, but I LOVE the big throat on the one in the last photo!

minky 10-02-2015 07:18 AM

I have the same two Juki's!!!! I just got the HZL-F, mine is the 300. I got it on sale for under $600.00. It came with
20 bobbins and 100 Organ needles (assorted). I have the 2010q on an SR-2 Gracie quilt frame. Works great. Plus, the 2010q can be removed from the frame. I use it when I do 'stitch in the ditch' quilting, can't tell you how smooth this machine works, it is beyond words. Takes the 'chore' right out of it. Have fun!!!

PAMAR 10-02-2015 08:08 AM

I have the 2010. I would encourage you to try different methods of fmqing. I found that, using the darning foot, I usually leave the feed dogs up and the stitch setting around 2. I feel like I have better control this way.

I, too, have an issue with the gloves making me feel too hot. Someone, maybe on this board, recommended that you cut shelf lining (the bumpy kind) to a size a little larger than your hands. Then, just place it on the quilt with your hands on top and go. I used this method all summer with much success.

Good luck with your new babies. I think you will love them.

There might be a way to get your hubby and sons interested in sewing. Let them know that a sewing machine is a power tool for fabric, it's an electric thread injector! :D Seriously though, we got one of my grandsons interested when he wanted me to make him a drawstring bag for some of his toys and I told him no, I wouldn't make it for him but I would help HIM make it. He's 17 now and does his own mending, etc. My 6yr old GS loves to watch my "magic machines" (embroidery machines) make pictures on his clothes, back packs, etc..and I know he will enjoy sewing his own things in time. Now if I could just get the GIRLS this interested I'd be totally happy.

Oh, and it's not weird that your Janome dealer was trying to sell you a new Elna. Janome builds them. The Elnas just cost more than the comparable Janome, he was trying to make more $$ from you.

Green with envy.

Never have used a Juki. Looks like a beautiful machine. Congratulations.

Stitchnripper 10-03-2015 05:19 AM

I'm so glad you got the right machines for you! Sounds like you are having a blast!

Carol34446 10-03-2015 08:56 AM

Great news, enjoy and let us see what you make. At my age no new sewing machines in my future, but with 7 and 2 sergers, I think I have enough. They are both nice looking machines. Happy for you.

purplefiend 10-03-2015 11:28 AM

My daughter bought a new Juki serger, she likes it.

nannyrick 10-03-2015 12:23 PM

I too have both of these machines. I can't say enough good things about them.
I use the 2010 for the most part for FMQ, but is also great for piecing. I would
recommend these to anybody who is thinking about them. The 2010 has a bigger
throat space that the 600, but they both have their pros. The 2010 is just a straight
stitch machine and then I go to the 600 for fany stitches etc. I love them both.

nunnyJo 10-03-2015 12:34 PM

have fun, know u will

GABBYABBY 10-03-2015 02:33 PM

I know you are going to have the best fun sewing on these machines. Now you know we are
expecting to see lots of pictures of the projects you make with your new sewing machines.
