I will try to make this as short as possible. I just simply have no words to express just how much this board has come to mean to me. The past 5 years of my life (I wouldn't dare go back any further LOL) have not been very happy years. I lost my father and then 3 weeks ago I lost my dear little mother, who lived with me and was also my best friend our whole lives. Needless to say, I really haven't done very much quilting. I do, however spend a lot of time on this site, learning, smiling, laughing right out loud, and crying - who ever knew we could cry for people we have never met, nor probably will we ever meet. One's pain, is everybodys pain and honest to God, you can't buy what we have here on this board.

Back to the point of my story lol Unlike a lot of you on this board, quilting does not come natural for me, I struggle but for some reason, continue to love it, have a ton of fabric and lots of "stuff" Every time I come on this board, I learn things that have helped me so much. I struggle even more than normal with joining the binding at the ends.....I bought the Fons & Porter binding tool, but I must be stupid because I still struggled and probably took 1/2 hour just to attach the 2 ends.....One day I read a tut by Kitsie showing how to do it, with typed instructions plus pictures (which is what I need) well low and behold, I followed her tut word by word, picture by picture and now I can join my bindings in minutes!!!! Kitsie, you are freaken awesome and I cannot thank you enough. Since learning that method, I thought I'd show you some of my finished projects..I think it is so important for you people who take your precious time away from your quilting to type and take pics for tuts, really know just how much you are appreciated and haved so many of us on this board..This is the first time I posted pics, so I hope they work. THANK YOU BOARD from the bottom of my heart for always being here and just for being the wonderful people that you are...........Wendy (in Nova Scotia)

You have truly made some awesome quilts! I love the scrappy one, what do you call that pattern? I have been saving scraps for years, that design is the coolest one that I have ever seen.
P.S. Your puppies are so cute!!

LeslieFrost 03-16-2011 07:37 AM

Wendy: Both of these quilts are lovely! They don't look at all like you struggle with anything!

I am sorry for your loss of your Dad and your Mom. Those times we get through, but we never really get over. You will be in my heart in the next days.

Please show more of your work -- we all love to look!

Claddaughquilting 03-16-2011 07:40 AM

Your quilts are lovely, wonderful work. So sorry to hear of your loss, but glad to hear that visits to the board are what the Dr ordered. I only joined recently but find that I spend more and more time, and I amaze my husband with the information I find, especially the non-quilting topics. This really is a great board, with a great bunch of people. I think that quilters are all kind-hearted people.
Take care and visit often.

Your quilts are just as pretty as pictures - I love the scrappy one best (maybe because I'm a scrappy quilter??) and am asking if you followed a pattern for it or just made it up as you went along. Very sorry for your loss - know that your Mom is looking down from above and still admiring your work!

feffertim 03-16-2011 08:21 AM

wow, your quilts are beautiful.

dream56 03-16-2011 08:34 AM

Beautiful quilts.

Sorry for your losses - just remember be like the rest of us and let this board be your means of support in times of need. There is always someone here to listen and lend a few kind words when needed.

dellareya 03-16-2011 08:34 AM

Love your quilts. The scrappy one is beautiful. Love the wonkiness. I also enjoyed your comments. I also struggled with connecting bindings. I found the binding thing and love it.

Raggiemom 03-16-2011 08:37 AM

Both quilts are very pretty, the first is just so cheerful. So sorry for the loss of your parents. My beloved grandparents died less than a year apart and I know (and sympathize) with what you're going through. Please keep sharing with us.

Gorgeous quilts, post more if you have them. Always love to see other's quilts and get ideas.

Sorry about the loss of your parents. I still miss mine and they have been gone for years.

I second your note about thanking everyone on this board, who do tutes. I have sewn for over 50 years and probably learned more in the past months from this board, than I can even imagine. Thanks to all of you.

quiltingsavta 03-16-2011 09:22 AM

Beautiful through and through - just like you. I'm sorry on your loss. It's never easy to lose anyone, even if it's "their time" or it's expected due to illness. It still doesn't take the pain in your heart away. My prayers are with you.

Shirleyg 03-16-2011 09:29 AM

Just a note, sorry for the loss of your mom and dad. My husband passed away three years this month and it has been the worse 3 years of my life. I come to this board every day and it makes my day better. He was very supportive of my quilting and encouraged me a lot. He even bought me a longarm and I feel really bad that I don't use it enough. I am coming around and starting to want to do things again. Loosing someone dear to you is one of those things that there is no quick fix for and it's just best to be good to your self and know in time you will heal and pain will get easier. This is a great place to visit and get your mind on something so good and to learn from. Thanks everyone the contributes and is patient with us.

I'm so sorry for losing both your parents. I'm glad you find some comfort here with us.

Your quilts are beautiful!

Your quilts are just beautiful! I am so sorry for your losses but we are all here for you at any time. Your sweet note was so touching. 17 yrs ago I belonged to Online Quilting Guild through Genie and know exactly what you mean; how faceless friends (we couldn't post pics) can mean so much and be so dear during difficult times.

For someone whom "quilting doesn't come natural to" you certainly make beautiful quilts! :D Your work is lovely. Thank you for sharing it with us! :D

I'm so sorry for the loss of your parents. I've been through it too and understand how tough it is. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Happy Tails 03-16-2011 11:54 AM

Sorry for your losses.

I don't know how you can say you struggle with quilting. It sure doesn't look like it. You do lovely work.

kim_s 03-16-2011 01:46 PM

So sorry for your loss. Time will heal but as we all know it just doesn't ever feel the same. I agree with you about all the wonderful people on this board. I have learned so much. I have to say "thanks to Kitsie" also on her tute about binding. I have always had difficulty in doing a good job. I also, read Kitsie's tute, followed it to the T and guess what it worked beautifully. I actually don't mind adding binding now at all! Keep the faith. I will say a prayer for you. Mary Frances

Yooper32 03-17-2011 03:50 AM

Your quilts look quite wonderful to me, I see nothing wrong and I too love the scrappy one, it is so colorful and love the wonky blocks. I am alone a lot too and have been for quite a few years. This board is my lifeline to people and ideas and it keeps me very busy, no time for self-pity.

supergma 03-17-2011 03:52 AM

Sorry for the loss of your parents. Just remember, you can always lean on us. Your quilts do not reflect any struggles with quilting. They are so very nice. Love the scrappy.

Stitchnripper 03-17-2011 04:04 AM

So sorry about the loss of your parents. Your quilts are beautiful. I love the scrappy one since scrappies are my favorite.

Pattil 03-17-2011 04:26 AM

So sorry for the loss of your parents. I haven't had parents since the age of 12,and I learned to sew from my Mom,and it not only is my serenity but has played a very big role in my life, making some gift for someone or volunteering the gift to our church raffle has brought great joy in my life,I feel it's my contribution to the world. My husband passed away two years ago this July and if I didn't have sewing I really think the painful mourning would have lasted much longer. So my suggestion to you is,"go do what you love",keep up your quilting, your doing a beautiful job your quilts are outstanding.

CarrieAnne 03-17-2011 04:31 AM

You put the right words together to express what this site means to so many women (and men) This is my connection to the caring community that helped me with warmth and humor to get through grieving. And inspiring us with quilts like yours......wonderful. Thank You

I am so sorry for the loss of your parents! I know how u feel, I moved in with my mom and cared for her until her passing. It was hard, especially when I had my own family to care for, but, I am so glad I did. It just would have made it easier to have been on a board like this at the time! This is a "Medical Miracle" I love your quilts!
