It is a good price....and a beauty...such a hard decision!

The people you're spending your life with are more important than the stuff. But if you pass, or make a deal to get rid of another, don't do it resentfully! That's just as harmful for your relationship as if you went ahead and bought it. There, now you have my two cents. ;-)

The big thing is it is so heavy, I am thinking we can take the machine out to lighten the load. That is the biggest thing! Dh wouldn't be thrilled, but I am not asking for a trip to Hawaii! He is used to me and my wild hairs!

Dina 09-09-2011 07:06 PM

I think you should go for it. Your husband knows you well enough by now to know that sewing machines are your passion...or one of your passions. He, of course, is another. :)

We have been married 36 yrs, so he puts up with me! He is wonderful, but just had back surgery. This is my passion and we don't travel or anything much. We are homebodies.. I just have to firgue out how to get it home, slight details. Gee, think I will sleep on it!

Mitch's mom 09-09-2011 07:57 PM

If you really want it and your husband is on board with you getting it then get it - for the cabinet. I'd leave the machine at the first thrift store I found. The bed decals are shot, it is a horizontal bobbin, a tricked out Singer 66.

The cabinet is a beauty. You couldn't give me a Singer 66 machine. Not my cup of tea at all.

Buzzy Bee 09-09-2011 08:00 PM

I tried to correct but it didn t work....I meant to type a 503a Singer slanted needle

What do you mean "trick out", is is because it sews both electric and or treadle? I never seen one do that! I kinda wondered on this.

That is a nice machine too! You can't go wrong. They stand the test of time!

Cosy 09-09-2011 08:31 PM

Buy it!

CoyoteQuilts 09-09-2011 08:39 PM

I have the same machine and cabinet I picked up for $100 a couple months ago. I have yet to get it cleaned up due to the hot weather and no place but outside to work on it. I'd grab another if it was in this cabinet!

Aurora 09-10-2011 01:09 AM

I would love to have one with that cabinet. I say buy.

Yooper32 09-10-2011 02:13 AM

It looks to me like the decals on that Red Eye are in great shape for the age of the machine. The cabinet looks to be a very sturdy one and probably will clean up beautifully. If you have wanted a red eye, go for it. If not, pass it up, it is your decision to make. I have a hard time turning down any nice vintage machine.

loves_2_quilt 09-10-2011 03:55 AM

Pass

Happy Tails 09-10-2011 04:02 AM

LOLOLOL OMG that struck me so funny,,,,when do we ever really need something in quilting

Thisis something worthy of being in a dither. Good luck!

ksea 09-10-2011 04:23 AM

It's a nice machine but if you are trying to downsize buying it wouldnt be the way to accomplish that!

No  I was referring to the fancy decals. The Redhead / Red Eye decals.

judi wess 09-10-2011 04:36 AM

OK,here goes. I have never been attracted to the old machines except for the antique aspect but...the machine pictured has a great long harp. If the price is right, even I would be tempted to purchase this one. You would have to pay seriously big bucks to get a new machine with a harp like this one. If it would be inexpensive to get it in working order that is.

brushandthimble 09-10-2011 04:37 AM

I vote buy it;
I passed on a machine, no idea what it was, friend called regarding it, should have at least looked at it. Passed on a FW table for $25 should have bought it.
No room here for either but probably could have found someone to take either.

Suzi 09-10-2011 04:38 AM

Look at it this way --- if you didn't really want it you would never have posted your question on the board. You want it, your DH won't stay mad for long, you can find a spot to put it and the price is more than right! Go for it ..............

if the 301 A is in good shape and it needs to be in excellent shape with case and attachments for that price....you will love it
be sure to check the lift up bed, it should move easily or it has been dropped.

judi wess 09-10-2011 04:39 AM

PS, can you drop the feed dogs or place a throat plate on it that will allow you to free motion.

miriam 09-10-2011 04:40 AM

get rid of the other 6

Connie in CO 09-10-2011 04:46 AM

Pass,buy fabric.

lillybeck 09-10-2011 04:51 AM

If you can afford it without having to put aside something important then go for it. If it will strain you financially then pass.

sewgray 09-10-2011 04:53 AM

If you want it and can afford it, get it.

Sunnye 09-10-2011 05:34 AM

If you're downsizing, I'd pass.
But Illinois isn't too far from me; I'll come get it! PM me if that could work. I've been looking for one!

MS quilter 09-10-2011 05:46 AM

How many chances are you going to get to get one of these? Not many, I'm guessing. Sell one or more of the others.

quilter2theend 09-10-2011 05:47 AM

Pass, doesn't the Lord tell us to be content with what He has already provided? There is probably someone out there that doesn't have one, much less 7 machines.

Pieceful Quilter 09-10-2011 05:50 AM

OK, don't hate me for saying this. I am sort of an anti-hoarder. Do you NEED this machine, or WANT it? Depending on the answer, you probably should pass, cause Im guessing the answer is WANT...

mrsmail 09-10-2011 05:55 AM

I wouldn't think twice. That baby would be mine. Love the cabinet.

craftymatt2 09-10-2011 06:09 AM

If you don't buy it i will, tell me how to get it, maybe this will help you, i don't have any and would love to have one. And i live in Illinois, although I dont know where the machine is.

wvdek 09-10-2011 06:13 AM

Pass, but you can send me the money and I will buy the beautiful one I saw yesterday:)

wraez 09-10-2011 06:18 AM

Pass. Not worth getting hubby unhappy.

Plus lately I've been using the mantra 'I do NEED it or just WANT it' , to be more frugal, if I don't need it I don't get it.

gwena 09-10-2011 06:26 AM

Perhaps give one of the other board members a chance at it or sell one of your others.

grannypat7925 09-10-2011 06:26 AM

I wouldn't be able to pass it up. Maybe resell it after a while or one of the others to keep the balance!

jaciqltznok 09-10-2011 06:36 AM

too bad they made it electric..that means they drilled holes in the back to mount that motor..sigh...PASS

PieceandLuv 09-10-2011 06:40 AM

do what your heart tells you and enjoy............

Annz 09-10-2011 06:41 AM

I agree with your dh. IF you have to start downsizing then this is one area you need to pay attention to if you already have several machines. You will only see more and buy more in the future. I would pass and enjoy what you already have.

writerwomen 09-10-2011 07:27 AM

Smile and pass.Once you're away from it you will not regret it. Red eyes are very comon and are becoming more abundant so one may come your way again and maybe then you will get it or by then you'll realize you really don't want it just admire it.
