Not sure what to do! I have an opportunitiy to buy an 1911 Red Eye Singer treadle! A real beauty, with loads of attachments. I already have 7 machines, not including my little "sweet pea". My dh will croak! We have talked about down sizing, can't be doing it this way. Oh what to do,what to do!!!

Pass!
I'm in the same boat......pass!!!
Maybe get this one and then sale one of the others???:):)
I have been more sorry about things that I did not buy than the things that I did buy. I can still remember things that I "passed" by at garage sales, or auctions or antique stores. You can always sell something that you have if need be, to buy something new.
JMHO |
thanks! I sold my old 1886 MW treadle a few years ago when we moved. I have kicked myself every since! I sold several antique pieces and told my dh I am not selling anymore! I like old things and he doesn't! We will see!

Where is this machine located? I just bought one yesterday :)

What does "need" have to do with it? Do we really buy stuff because we need it? I certainly don't. I would buy it in a heartbeat at that price just for the parlor cabinet!
"Buy only what you love".
"Buy only what you find to be either beautiful or useful". Isn't that how the sayings go? It's easy to fit a treadle into anyone of these categories isn't it? lol! Best wishes with your decision. |
Has a Redeye been on your want list? It's on mine, so I'd say buy. The parlor cabinet and machine alone are each worth more than that. If the Redeye isn't a favorite, then let it go to someone who really wants it. I recently passed on a Davis Two Spools at a good price. An excellent buy, but it wasn't a Redeye.
What machines do you have now? Could you part with one of them to make room?
Pass You don't need it.
I would buy it just for the parlor cabinet. They aren't as easy to find. Then put your favorite machine in it and sell the redeye. The decals on the bed aren't that great, but the cabinet is very sweet!
Buy it and if hubby gripes sell one of the other ones...lol!
I'm just glad I'm in Texas...not voting...lol!

I feel your pain. In fact, I have tears in my eyes. I would give anything to have your opportunity, and yes, my DH would throw a fit if I brought it home. It must be catching your heart strings for some reason. Can you put words to that reason? If you can, then you'll know whether or not you'll actually buy the Singer.
I vote - BUY .... you only live once.. so enjoy..
Pass...it to me. LOL
I feel your pain....I am in same situation with a singer vintage 301a.. I'm supposed to go look at it tomorrow...and I'm so torn....she wants 180 for it and it's 90 miles from me......I don't know what to do either....My computer machines are messing up all the time and I'm tired of the $$$ it cost to have them fixed......

Is it worth whatever tension/bad feelings it makes between you and DH???? That's what I would have to ask myself.
Pass...

What is more important to you- your relationship with DH, or the sewing machine? Sorry, I'd have to say pass- UNLESS you two can discuss it and come to an arrangement that you can both be happy with, such as you selling other machine(s). The people you're spending your life with are more important than the stuff. But if you pass, or make a deal to get rid of another, don't do it resentfully! That's just as harmful for your relationship as if you went ahead and bought it. There, now you have my two cents. ;-)
