Not sure what to do! I have an opportunitiy to buy an 1911 Red Eye Singer treadle! A real beauty, with loads of attachments. I already have 7 machines, not including my little "sweet pea". My dh will croak! We have talked about down sizing, can't be doing it this way. Oh what to do,what to do!!!

Murphy 09-09-2011 03:51 PM

Pass!

susie0808 09-09-2011 03:52 PM

I'm in the same boat......pass!!!

wuv2quilt 09-09-2011 04:00 PM

Maybe get this one and then sale one of the others???:):)

NikkiLu 09-09-2011 04:09 PM

I have been more sorry about things that I did not buy than the things that I did buy. I can still remember things that I "passed" by at garage sales, or auctions or antique stores. You can always sell something that you have if need be, to buy something new.

JMHO

thanks! I sold my old 1886 MW treadle a few years ago when we moved. I have kicked myself every since! I sold several antique pieces and told my dh I am not selling anymore! I like old things and he doesn't! We will see!

DogHouseMom 09-09-2011 04:22 PM

Where is this machine located? I just bought one yesterday :)

Painiacs 09-09-2011 04:25 PM

Jeanniejo 09-09-2011 04:32 PM

humbird 09-09-2011 04:44 PM

thimblebug6000 09-09-2011 04:45 PM

$60, well worth it, don't you think? I gave $50 for one of my old Singer 15 in cabinet with a stool with queen anne legs. I love it! I just love the vintage machines!

pojo 09-09-2011 04:54 PM

I would buy it.

blueangel 09-09-2011 05:44 PM

What does "need" have to do with it? Do we really buy stuff because we need it? I certainly don't. I would buy it in a heartbeat at that price just for the parlor cabinet!

Rose L 09-09-2011 06:10 PM

"Buy only what you love".
"Buy only what you find to be either beautiful or useful". Isn't that how the sayings go? It's easy to fit a treadle into anyone of these categories isn't it? lol! Best wishes with your decision.

irishrose 09-09-2011 06:11 PM

Has a Redeye been on your want list? It's on mine, so I'd say buy. The parlor cabinet and machine alone are each worth more than that. If the Redeye isn't a favorite, then let it go to someone who really wants it. I recently passed on a Davis Two Spools at a good price. An excellent buy, but it wasn't a Redeye.

1000projects 09-09-2011 06:13 PM

What machines do you have now? Could you part with one of them to make room?

3incollege 09-09-2011 06:16 PM

Pass You don't need it.

Kas 09-09-2011 06:20 PM

I would buy it just for the parlor cabinet. They aren't as easy to find. Then put your favorite machine in it and sell the redeye. The decals on the bed aren't that great, but the cabinet is very sweet!

lfw045 09-09-2011 06:21 PM

Buy it and if hubby gripes sell one of the other ones...lol!

emerald46 09-09-2011 06:26 PM

I'm just glad I'm in Texas...not voting...lol!

MacThayer 09-09-2011 06:27 PM

I feel your pain. In fact, I have tears in my eyes. I would give anything to have your opportunity, and yes, my DH would throw a fit if I brought it home. It must be catching your heart strings for some reason. Can you put words to that reason? If you can, then you'll know whether or not you'll actually buy the Singer.

luvTooQuilt 09-09-2011 06:27 PM

I vote - BUY .... you only live once.. so enjoy..

buslady 09-09-2011 06:33 PM

Pass...it to me. LOL

Buzzy Bee 09-09-2011 06:35 PM

I feel your pain....I am in same situation with a singer vintage 301a.. I'm supposed to go look at it tomorrow...and I'm so torn....she wants 180 for it and it's 90 miles from me......I don't know what to do either....My computer machines are messing up all the time and I'm tired of the $$$ it cost to have them fixed......

Is it worth whatever tension/bad feelings it makes between you and DH???? That's what I would have to ask myself.

husker67 09-09-2011 06:40 PM

Pass...

I love the vintage machines! The 301 is a great machine, I have two, I should sell one but.. I only paid $30 for each of mine. I think if you look around you might find something at a better price. If your willing to wait that is! Great machines and portable!!!

Kristin in ME 09-09-2011 06:47 PM

What is more important to you- your relationship with DH, or the sewing machine? Sorry, I'd have to say pass- UNLESS you two can discuss it and come to an arrangement that you can both be happy with, such as you selling other machine(s). The people you're spending your life with are more important than the stuff. But if you pass, or make a deal to get rid of another, don't do it resentfully! That's just as harmful for your relationship as if you went ahead and bought it. There, now you have my two cents. ;-)

Oh, he is used to me doing stuff I like, he doesn't always like it! I am the free spirit! I am living once, so I gotta go for the gusto in life! He can sell it or junk it when I am gone
