I'm just realizing what's missing in my "new" sewing room. A clock! I admit to being a clock-watcher, although I wish I wasn't. There isn't a room in my house without at least one clock, and most rooms have two. If I didn't watch the clock, I'd be the last one to dinner, and I'm the only one who cooks  Especially if I'm sewing, I lose track of the time. Surely, I'm not alone in this... am I? Or is it a phobia or something.

virtualbernie 06-04-2010 01:22 PM

I'm with you girl! I have clocks everywhere too. Once I'm into sewing I lose all track of time and get mad when I have to stop!

Dawn Hendrix 06-04-2010 01:23 PM

O have a clock and I am amazed how time FLIES by.... I must be having a WONDERFUL time if it moves that fast. I am needing to get a battery for a timer ... I want to start stopping after an hour of sewing or quilting and go walk on the treadmill for a little exercise and to refresh the brain.

Ditter43 06-04-2010 01:23 PM

I am the same...clocks everywhere!! I DO have one in my sewing room..:-D

Melody 06-04-2010 01:26 PM

Phew, okay, I'm feeling better about this. Not a phobia at all.

Pam 06-04-2010 01:29 PM

Me, too, clock, tv, radio, record player.

sewcrazygirl 06-04-2010 01:31 PM

no clock here either.

Scissor Queen 06-04-2010 01:53 PM

I have four clocks in my sewing room. Every room in my house has at least one clock. The time on them may or may not be correct though. Some of them are a hassle to "spring forward and fall back" so I tend to leave them on one or the other.

fabric-holic 06-04-2010 01:56 PM

no clocks, no watch, I just sew till I want to stop!! Of course I can only do that on evenings after work or on weekends.

QuiltingGrannie 06-04-2010 01:56 PM

Clocks everywhere. All set 5 - 7 minutes fast so I am never late!

I also normally have calendars in just about every room, but not in the last two years. At least not store bought ones. I print out my own.

kacie 06-04-2010 01:58 PM

I do have a clock, but I haven't changed the battery for a long time and it keeps getting slower and slower. I think it's about 5 hours behind. Someday soon it will slow down to the right time.

MadQuilter 06-04-2010 02:01 PM

I do but the battery is dead.

pab58 06-04-2010 02:08 PM

No clock in my sewing room! I just start sewing and don't give any thought to the time. I have been known to start at around 9:00 at night and all of a sudden it's 3:00 in the morning!! Then I get mad because I know I should get to bed -- but I'm not sleepy!! After 9-1-1 I stayed up all night sewing dog booties then taught school that same day! I started them at around 4:00 in the afternoon, and by the time I was finished I had made about 150 booties! Our school students decorated them with markers and off the booties went to New York City to Ground Zero!

If I have something I need to do or someplace I need to be at a certain time, I take some handwork into the living room where I do have a clock.

I have one Atomic clock so I set the others accordingly. But during the spring ahead or fall back times, I allow myself 2 days to catch up. I hate changing time. I live east of the Mississippi but function better on Calif. time.

pollyjvan9 06-04-2010 02:10 PM

I have a clock to remind me there are other things that need to be done besides sitting at the sewing machine!

That is the best kind of clock for a sewing room!!! I have one but I try not to look at it and just enjoy my time there.

seamstome 06-04-2010 03:08 PM

My tv has a clock and I use it.

sweet 06-04-2010 03:08 PM

I do not have a clock in my sewing room since my time in there is all pleasure! I do have the ability to check the time on the tv, but it's rarely necessary.

sewjoyce 06-04-2010 03:36 PM

I do have a battery operated clock in my sewing room -- which is always at least 5 min. slow....I need it to just give me a "general idea" of what time it is -- how much more time do I have to sew before I have to do (laundry, take clothes out of the dryer, get dressed before company comes, etc.  )

StitchinJoy 06-04-2010 03:43 PM

I do have a clock in the sunroom where I sew, but I can't see it from my sewing table. I have either the radio or tv on most of the time, so that gives me some idea of the time, plus I always have my Blackberry with me That has a clock on the face. If I have limited sewing time, like in the mornings before work, I set the timer on my Blackberry. It plays Fur Elise when my time is up.

Ninnie 06-04-2010 03:43 PM

nope, no clock for me
I get up every 30 min, I think and walk around some

mtnmama 06-04-2010 03:53 PM

No clocks for me in the sewing room. I work 5 days a week so on the weekend I can do what I want. I have skylights in my sewing room, when it starts getting dark, I know that it is getting late, maybe time to go downstairs. Or, maybe not.

Me too!

SuziC 06-04-2010 04:02 PM

This may sound strange but i do NOT have a clock in the sewing room. That is one place i lose myself in and don't want to know what time it is. My husband is very good about letting me know if it's getting late. On the week-ends i love to go in there and do whatever for how ever long i'm in the mood. I don't even take my cell phone in there. I think i need a support group!

marsye 06-04-2010 04:06 PM

Throw everyone out of the house you have to cook for and then throw the clocks out....lock the doors and waa laa! No more watching the clock.

bj 06-04-2010 04:23 PM

I have 2. One is a clock/radio that I keep plugged into the same power strip as the sewing machine. When I'm not sewing, I turn off the power strip (radio, machine, lamp, and iron) all go off. I got tired of resetting the clock 20 times a day, so it just flashes at me most of the time, or I push a button and it's always the wrong time. I finally hung a clock by the door that I took from the kitchen when we repainted. I don't wear a watch, but I do like to keep track of time. I'll forget to start supper or laundry if I don't keep track.

Sounds good :-D but farmers like to eat 3 times a day ON time. Sometimes it is a pot of soup or oven dish, when I'm too engrossed in sewing... "Help yourself! It's on the stove!"

deedum 06-04-2010 05:13 PM

I do have a clock in my sewing room, although I have a pretty good built in clock in my head. The only time I look at it, is when it is 2 or 3 oclock in the morning and I know I should go to bed!

Pam S 06-04-2010 05:24 PM

Yup, I've got a clock with a timer that I use in my sewing room. If I didn't set the timer I'd never come out and I'd forget to do things like pick the kids up from school or make dinner!

Boston1954 06-04-2010 05:36 PM

Oh yes. I have one to see how long I am at it. I like to see when I have worked for several hours. It also helps me to remember to take a break from time to time. Even when things are going well, and I do not have an achy back, I feel it is a good idea to get out of that chair and move around. The clock helps me do that.

Jingle 06-04-2010 07:08 PM

I have one but, the battery is dead. I wear a watch but, very seldom look to see what time it is, just use to wearing one, so I do.

sueisallaboutquilts 06-04-2010 07:48 PM

I've been laughing like crazy at all the comments!! I do have a clock in my sewing room but I never look at it :D So it serves as a pretty round thing on the wall :D:D

littlehud 06-04-2010 08:14 PM

I have clocks in every room and one by my sewing machine. I might forget to pick up DGD if it's not there.

lab fairy 06-04-2010 08:31 PM

I set a timer for 20 minute segments. Since I'm ADHD I've learned to use a timer for everything. If I get off task it will refocus me and I don't waste huge amounts of time. It also reminds me to get up, stretch, get blood recirculating in the legs, etc. It is really useful when I get on the computer.

Chasing Hawk 06-04-2010 08:32 PM

My clock is on my Bose stereo system.

Pineapple Princess 06-04-2010 09:12 PM

I have a clock, but only because I'm trying to keep track of how long my current project is taking me. Normally I don't look at it, and only get up when I have to cook or do the dishes! :)

debbieumphress 06-04-2010 09:36 PM

I am one with clocks in every room, some have more than one. One of my friends buys me a new, wonderful clock every year for X-mas. The one in my sewing sits by my computer where I can see it. I like to watch the clock so I know when to cook, when to check mail, etc. I would be lost without one so that's why every room has at least one. ticktockticktock

debbieumphress 06-04-2010 09:37 PM

Oh yeah when I went to Germany we brought home a Blackforest Cuckoo clock and it is at the far end of the house. Love to listen to it once in a while but every hour? I think not. Just had to have one.

quiltinghere 06-05-2010 04:04 AM

I have a 3" clock in the bedroom sewing area - just so I can see what time it is without getting up.

I have a clock radio in my large sewing area. It has a 'sleep mode'. When you press a button, it plays for 1 hour and shuts off.

I use this mode when I'm trying to sneak in a fast/quick/get her done iron/decide/cut/sew/cleanup-athon...(usually in the morning before work :) or before starting dinner). I can hear the local news and weather and time and work quickly till the radio shuts off one hour later.

It's amazing what I can accomplish with a limited amount of time like 1 hour! I STAY FOCUSED to the task at hand and let the laundry and dinner wait...cause I only have 1 hour to sew!

Sneaky huh?

Joeysnana 06-05-2010 05:19 AM

I am in the process of designing a sewing room. I don't think I will put a clock in this room. It will be my private world! No interruptions allowed!
