Wow!! Unbelievable. Some people must think they have solid gold treasures!!!

SuziC 03-03-2011 03:48 PM

Seriously????? What are they thinking???????

shequilts 03-03-2011 03:50 PM

Wow! I need to advertise in CA.

fabric_fancy 03-03-2011 03:51 PM

in my area the further you go from all original the cheaper the price - that red one would sell for under $200 around here.

Kitsie 03-03-2011 03:56 PM

I can't believe there are so-o-o-o many of them out there! Not like its a really rare item to be priced like that!

Candace 03-03-2011 03:57 PM

I've actually seen some repaints for sale at some CA shows for that price range. I say for sale, because no one was buying that I saw.

ptquilts 03-03-2011 04:08 PM

maybe the husband said "sell those extra machines" and the wife wanted to keep them. "But honey, I put an ad on CL, don't know why they aren't selling."

CloverPatch 03-03-2011 04:13 PM

Wonder if I can trade them my golden fleece? Or how about some golden apples off Mt. Olympus

tuesy 03-03-2011 04:13 PM

No doubt!! Geesh!.. I only see the 221's... I don't see the 222.

I know the 222's go for alot since there are so few of them out there. They're the ones that have the removable bed so you can say sew a sleeve on.

sueisallaboutquilts 03-03-2011 04:24 PM

It amazes me how things get out of hand!!
I've been noticing recently that the 301's are going higher than when I got mine. Anyone else notice that?

DonnaJ 03-03-2011 04:24 PM

Is that the original color of the machine? I never knew they made red ones.

luvnquilt 03-03-2011 04:24 PM

Wow, I saw one last week in our area listed for $600 and thought that was ridiculously high!!

LOL! This must be what happened :-P

Tink's Mom 03-03-2011 04:39 PM

I don't see a 222K...I think they must have the wrong machine pictured...
If you look at the background of the pictures...this looks like it might be a dealer selling these... It is definitely a store front.

I think they must be smokin some of that funny stuff, if they think we are going to plunk down that kinda money.

MissM 03-03-2011 05:08 PM

I saw one in a quilt shop that had been painted purple, which is the color of my Alma Mater and when I asked about the price the quoted me $2,500.....because it was a "custom" paint job. Geeze Louise is all I can say , it's not like it's a sports car. :-D

tellabella 03-03-2011 05:59 PM

You really gotta love purple for that price...or red...If I had money to burn I would buy one..

wanderingcreek 03-03-2011 06:28 PM

Those prices are crazy but the red one is sure cute!

nwm50 03-03-2011 06:36 PM

lovely machine but i would be the one "smoking some of that funny stuff " to pay that amt of money!! Custome paint job... i can see paying $400 but not a bit more! The red one i can tell it's made from the mid 30-40's . The black after that by the scroll face.

jeaninmaine 03-03-2011 06:37 PM

I think one of the gentlemen on this forum does custom paint jobs for the featherweights.

Suzanne57 03-03-2011 07:06 PM

Yup, Lostn51

Sorry hit wrong button.

Yup. Lostn51

akrogirl 03-03-2011 07:39 PM

I just got one in a beautiful custom green paint job for less than many standard featherweights.

I also got the most awesome centennial machine from England, complete with box of attachments and top tray, for under $500. I swear, it is one of the most beautiful examples of a Featherweight I have ever seen and is easily a 10 for condition.

My 222k also came from England. The price was about half what it would have cost me here and the condition was still pretty good.

I still regret not having gone to $1,000 for the one true white, absolutely immaculate machine I have seen, but no way would I go any higher.

They are NUTS! first of all FW never were RED!

CarrieAnne 03-03-2011 08:17 PM

Wow!

Prettiptibbs 03-03-2011 10:03 PM

Ridiculous! Stinks of greed

karenpatrick 03-04-2011 03:26 AM

Yep!! They're proud of them apparently.

twinkie 03-04-2011 04:56 AM

That is a custom paint job but they are sure proud of their work. This is ridiculous. This type of ad is what is going to destroy the market for Featherweights.

When I bought my first featherweight about 15 years ago I was told they were rare and hard to find, not so! They are everywhere with all kinds of prices. I would pay no more that $400. and it would have to be in mint condition with a good cast. I agree they must think they r made of gold

I'm with PTQuilts on this one! I think it's what I would do if told to sell off my surplus machines!

reginalovesfabric 03-04-2011 05:40 AM

I paid $140.00 for mine and my brother gave me the other one for Valentine's abour 5 years ago.

fsmcm 03-04-2011 06:28 AM

I have a Featherweight that was my Mum's. She bought it 20 years ago for $125 (used).

There is an elderly gentleman here in town who used to work for Singer many years ago. He still does repairs in his home and I have taken all my old Singer machines to him for servicing. I asked him about the Featherweights once and he said they are overpriced and that if you can get one for $300 then that should be the maximum one should pay. Just FYI.

Fabaddict 03-04-2011 06:39 AM

obviously they do not want to sell them.

MaggieLou 03-04-2011 06:48 AM

You gotta remember - California is the land of fruits and nuts. :) No offense meant to anyone in CA.

gramquilter2 03-04-2011 07:33 AM

They are beautiful machines and I bet there is someone out there that will pay that price. Not me but I would love the red one...hmmm I wonder if HE would notice $3000 missing from our checking account?

sjdal 03-04-2011 08:24 AM

I think to repaint one is a tremendous amount of work. I love the red one and if I win the lottery, I'll buy it. I bought a 222K in mint condition for a bunch of money and have no regrets.

I didn't give that for my pristine condition 222.

vickimc 03-04-2011 08:40 AM

love the red one but not for that price, maybe I will get mine painted.
