my grandmother made granny squares out of yarn. I believe knitting, but possibly crochet. My mother made all of our clothing.

My dad's family all were prolific knitters. Even the brothers learned to knit. My mother sewed alot of our clothes and also knitted. No quilters, though.

No one in my family quilted, but my MIL began quilting when she retired and for the next 20 years made beautiful quilts for all her family. She was my inspiration.

My mother was an avid knitter.

All the time. My granny went to the landfill after the dress factory "dumped" their scraps and she made cobbler aprons and quilts from the pieces. My mom was always sewing or doing embroidery work. I started sewing in grade school. So glad to have had their influences and teaching.

My mother..with nine children she had a lot of beds to supply with quilts. A great aunt worked for a drapery company and would send mother the 18 by 18 inch samples of drapery materials at each new seasonal change of patterns. They made heavy ,warm and surprisingly pretty quilts.

My mother didn't do quilts but she did a lot of crochet and tatting. Grandmother hand pieced baby quilts for her church. Great grandmother did hooked rugs out of old clothes and comforters. We were started on handwork as soon as we were able to understand needle and thread. The little embroidery cards and then embroidery and on from there!

My gram taught me how to crochet. I remember the first thing she showed me was how to make Oreo cookie magnets. :)

We started an afghan almost 25 yrs ago. Thank goodness that we purchased all of the yarn at the same time.

Well, gram passed in 1998. I finally finished the afghan in 2003. :) The colors I liked as a kid definitely are not my favorite, but I will say the afghan is on my couch now and my kids love to snuggle up in it. It is super good for invoking great childhood memories!

No one in my family made quilts. My DH remembers, as a child, cutting feed sacks for his aunt to use in her quilts. Wish we had one of her quilts! My Mom crochet lovely doilies and I've thought of maybe using some in a quilt one day.

My Mom's mother made clothes and my Mom knitted and crocheted. Never even heard of quilts until I moved to Texas. and then of course I wanted to learn how for many years, and 5 years ago self taught myself - along with this board family. I have always crocheted and cross stitched - even taugh my Mom how to cross stitch 15 years ago, but she didn't like doing it.

My grandmother cut up old clothing and tied them together with older quilts inbetween. My DM crazy quilted for years. I cannot count how many she has made of those.
