A thousand pyramids. Borders?

How would you finish this? This is a 12+ year old UFO for DH and I really want to finish it. It's supposed to be sand, to shallow water, to deep ocean. I was thinking of the border just mimicking the colors? What do you think?

I don't think it needs a border. I would just bind it in one of the darker colors. It's really beautiful!

Hmm. Never have done one without borders. It's 70x98 which is s decent size...

I kinda like how Quilter's cache finished one....here is the link http://www.quilterscache.com/images3...areforever.jpg

Unless you need to add a border to get to a desired size, I don't think it needs one. I like modern designs like this without borders.

That's exactly what I would do. Do them in a brick size graduating from beige to aqua to dark blue to black (or navy).

Beautiful quilt! Unless you feel the need for a border to make it larger I don't think I'd put one on.

Treat it like you would when framing a picture. Pick a dark color for the first frame that works with all the colors, then a lighter color from the quilt and make that a thin second frame, then the third and the widest frame...deep blue or black (possibly a batik) that has a tone on tone effect...then a not so subtle binding?

I'm in the no border camp for this one. Borders should only be added to quilts when they need them, when they add something to the overall design. That's not the case here. The design is solidly standing all by itself. Great job! Bind it and and proudly give it to your DH. :)

I have to agree unless it needs a border to make it larger I would not add one to this, and if I did need to make it larger I would probably just continue the design for a couple more rows. The one from 'quilterscache' that is linked above could be an option, but it really stands well alone. If the size is OK I would just bind it
