time to add borders...

I just finished the "middle" part of this quilt top. I really like it, but I am not so sure of the border suggestions that come with it. I will play with ideas, of course, but what do you think of the ones the pattern recommends. It calls for a three inch inner white border (it is really a white on white, but it doesn't show up too well), then a one inch blue border, and then an outer border of four inches of the focus fabric.

I was thinking of leaving the white border out. This quilt already has a lot of white in it. ??

Suggestions? Thanks.

No suggestions but I think it is very pretty.

How about no border?

I think the white will help "finish" the center. Looking forward to seeing it completed.

If it was mine I would do blue, white, focus fabric using the suggested sizes just in a different order. Very pretty springy looking quilt.

I'd do something similar: a blue resting border [a very small border], then a smallish white border and finish with the floral focus fabric.

I am too new to give suggestions; but it is beautiful colors. Blue is a fav of mine. Can't wait to see more. Teresa

Well, I have been playing with borders for about half an hour. I've decided it does need the white as one of the borders. I like the suggestion of blue, then white, then the focus fabric. (I have also tried light blue, purple, and green, none of which look very good, even for the one inch border.) If I go with a larger blue border, I have to buy more fabric, but so far, that looks best to me. Time to leave it for tonight and look at it tomorrow.

Thanks for the input.

I'd do an inch wide purple first to contain the colors before I used any of the fabrics in the quilt. The quilt colors will bleed into the border colors without a stopper strip. Then you can do a wide focal fabric with a blue binding. I like pieced borders lately, but they are more work. Maybe just some nine patch corners?
