Back in the day, before totes were popular, I was known as the Bag Lady, because I made so many bags. I got heavy fabric close out, drapery, and upholstery, remnants to use. Some of the bags were softer, with muslin weight lining, some were heavy duty for the guys to throw tools into. I had big nylon bags perfect for the White Sales to carry 4 king size pillows in. Everyone in my department at Walter Reed had tote bags, and probably several other departments. It was a great source of pocket money for me. That was nearly 40 years ago. I haven't made any since then. I coach the kids, but for me - I don't even carry a purse, and retailers give away totes like they grow on trees.

bagless and still collecting

I love making bags and totes. What started me on the quiltng road was a small quilted bag. I fell in love with quilting with making that bag. Since then I've made at least 50 bags. I too, am known as the bag lady of our quild. I just finished making a huge tote bag for overnight stays. Put in probably 16 hours in making it.

Hi
I am a bagless lady! lol TreeFrog |
Glad to know I'm not alone
Sad to know so many have made so many already. |
I have bought. Pattern but no mTerial to make one yet. Would have loved to make one for my vacation but no time in my life and no money for fabric. Sigh.
|
I'm with you.

I've made a few. Working on some hobo bags right now. I'm hoping to find a copy of the bow tuck bag next time I get close to a fabric store. I think it is really cute.
|
I just order of pattern called " my favorite bag " to go with the other 6 patterns I have and the book called 100 bags. So do you think I'll get a bag made. NOT :) :?: Maybe 2012 will be my goal year... wish me luck
|
I made three bags before Christmas last year and have one cut out ready to sew and two others I have promised. All are Bow Tuck bags. I need to make totes for myself but never seem to have the time! (wonder why!)

I like looking at and trying new patterns and have lots of them. I am still enjoying admiring them but haven't made one yet!

I love making bags. I'm making a funky one now for a friend who is leaving for her summer home soon. Found a pair of "Hero" Wrangler jeans for 50 cents at a thrift store so doing it in red/white/blue, beading some stars on it, some patches from my patriotic fabrics. Just love it and it always lets my imagination run wild!

I am in the bagless boat! Hope there is still room.

Bagless

I go in spurts! Make bags, then I get the itch to make quilt blocks! I love all kinds of quilting and sewing. Beads are not my favorite, tho.
|
My DD and I make bags for ourself often. It's a quick thing to finish and a break from the quilts.

Ever made a quilter's tote bag designed for all of your rulers? I made this in a class a year ago, and I have taken it now to two classes since.
It is not finished at this point but this is the only picture I have on this computer. Binding was left to do here. Pockets in front are wide enough for 6.5" rulers. This is the back, finished. |
that sounds so like me!

I made this one for another lifelong friend that moved from Austin to Colorado. About 20 years ago she wrote in our reunion yearbook that someday when she is retired she will sit on the front porch of her cabin in the woods and write a book. After learning the technique on embellishing in the class where I made the quilter's tote bag, I applied it to this bag. BTW, the hummingbirds are male and female broadtails which are nesters in her area.

Made one but do not like it as well as a reg store bought purse. Sorry!
|
I've made three and would love to make more. They are a lot of fun and a great way to use all those bits of trim, beads, and stuff that have accumulated over time. Plus, you can customize the pockets to your own needs and they are nice and roomy.

I made one on retreat last weekend. It was fun. I had never stipple quilted before. I know, you can teach an old dog new tricks.

I've made it a bit larger than the pattern, larger still, but not quite right. The pattern was free. Here's a link:

I have made a lot of bags and sold them at craft fairs but I just cant' follow a pattern. I just start cutting and sewing. Lots of recycled blue jean bags. I think I have only made one using a pattern. My last one was a crazy quilt bag. I will try to add a picture.
