so now to figure out what size I am cutting, I may have an idea coming into it but here is the crunch, my repeat is just a hair under 8 inches, so I want to avoid 2 and 4.

Using a ruler is always nice when trying to picture what will show at what size cut, I like this one as it shows the seams, on what will show after it is put together, so remember that you will be cutting it a bit bigger than what you want to see, some people will have an easier time seeing this than others, it will be easier after the first one, this will be the hardest for most people,

so I am figuring on cutting this anywhere between 3 and 3 1/2,

What you will see on one piece, you will see on all the pieces around,

Is this going to give me the color variation that I am looking for?

won't you get mostly the leaf in a 3-3 1/2" cut?

Can you show a new picture of the fabric, at least half (prefer the whole width) and hopefully two repeats? as well as a ruler to show us how big the flowers are?

It depends on where the triangle is. The grapes take up quite a bit of space too. But the neat part is when you can get part green leaf, part purple grape and white bkgd. all in one triangle. I bet she'll get some neat kaleidoscopes.

Where the triangle is now, there would only be a bit of grape in the corners...or am I looking at it wrong?

The blocks the way they are cut. Some will have mostly leaf. Some mostly grape. And a bunch with any number of combinations. To big and I will end up with a lot of blocks with the same value. And to small and I will get a bunch of blocks that have the same everything it it. Let's see what we get! I am going down the middle at 3 1/4.

Even tho you might have triangles with mostly green, it's not all the same green. There's lighter and darker values of green, so you will still have a kaleidoscope pattern in green. The curved edges of the leaves will also make for interesting designs.
