Tomorrow Saturday 3/18, Is National Quilting Day

Anybody doing anything quilty tomorrow? I'm going to try to spend most of the day working on a quilt. Youngest DGS has a concert in the evening.

Tartan 03-17-2017 09:51 AM

There are free shows and prizes to enter for this weekend on The Quilt Show site. I may watch a few of the shows.

QuiltnNan 03-17-2017 10:18 AM

Tomorrow is our guild meeting. Then I'll be sewing in the afternoon.

rryder 03-17-2017 10:31 AM

Thanks for the heads up on the free shows Tartan. I'll be working on a UFO art quilt.

DD and I are taking DGD to work and then going to LQS. After coming home, I'll work on getting my 2017 temperature quilt up to date. Then I'll work on my Kimberbell pillow covers.

Cotton Mama 03-17-2017 11:00 AM

I am going to spend some time on my appliqué quilt. I can't wait.

Jordan 03-17-2017 11:40 AM

I sure hope that I can get some sewing done. I am working on my "itty bitty" blocks and have a lot cut out so if I can get to my project I will be happy camper.

Cathieinut 03-17-2017 01:55 PM

Visiting a local group's show in Burlington NC then hopefully more work on my QAYG blocks for my Splendid Sampler Quilt. It's turning out very nicely

quiltingshorttimer 03-17-2017 04:21 PM

participating in a sew day with my guild.

beckyboo1 03-17-2017 05:30 PM

I'm going to try out an Eversewn 20 and hope to buy it for my 2nd machine!

quilterpurpledog 03-17-2017 05:43 PM

I will spend the day in my sewing room trying to finish up a quilt for a grandson's wedding April 8th. I think I can do it! It is a Blazing Star (Craftsy's BOM) and I am renting time on the longarm at the LQS. It is my first quilt on the machine. So far so good. If I can do a full day on National Quilting Day I should get it done.

homefrontgirl 03-17-2017 05:52 PM

I've got a binding to do on a king-sized log cabin. I'm waiting for a quilt to be done at the long armers and wish I could get that back. It's for my cousin's birthday, which was today. She knows it's coming and is being very nice about the fact it's going to be late. I also have a quilt for my DS I'd like to get started. Tomorrow would be a good day since it's a "quilting holiday". I might see what the LQS has going on too.

Mariposa 03-17-2017 06:19 PM

I'll be playing with my scraps, and sewing some crumb blocks. Maybe do some reorganizing, and/or sewing up Yellow Brick Road blocks.
Happy stitching everyone!

zozee 03-17-2017 08:26 PM

I'm feeling cabin fever, between the weather and my foot injury. I'm going out in the morning to visit the LQS that got run into by a drunk driver a couple weeks ago. Then I'm coming home to watch my cousin's memorial service being streamed at 2pm .

Quilter's Day Out -- Lexington, KY

Battle Axe 03-18-2017 02:19 AM

Working on En Provence. Goal is to complete clue # 1.

Texas_Sue 03-18-2017 02:51 AM

I'll be catching up on one of my club's BOM and then I'm goint to start working on Lisa Bongean's Triangle Gatherings. I just found out about it and they already have 21 blocks made so far and I have a lot of catching up to do. They are just the cutest blocks and are paper pieced. Can't wait to get started. Any one interested, you can find out more over at her blog on Primitive Gatherings website. Also, is anyone here doing the Moda Blockheads BOW? They have been fun so far (just 2 weeks - just started).

Karamarie 03-18-2017 03:39 AM

I am attending a one day quilt retreat. Fun

ka9sdn 03-18-2017 03:41 AM

As much as I want to quilt today I am spending the day cleaning my quilt studio. I am cutting my scraps into strips and squares instead of the "throw it in the box" I have been doing! Having work done on my LA Monday so I need to let it sit there idle.

Reba'squilts 03-18-2017 03:48 AM

Now that I have completed the embroideries for my Grandson's quilt, I will make the two remaining blocks and begin to sew it together. Has been months in the works!!! Can't wait to finish it.

PatPitter 03-18-2017 04:13 AM

Since it is raining here and I'm in a quilting mood lately, I'll be playing with fabric while watching "The Quilt Show".

I'm working on the Farmer's Wife Quilt - my first attempt at hand piecing. Also been going through my stash organizing. Telling myself to not start any more quilts until I finish some of my UFO's. Haven't quilted much in the last 5 years. Need to get back into it.

NJ Quilter 03-18-2017 04:20 AM

I would be nice to think I could get in some sewing today but I'm not holding my breath. I have another round of sashing to do on blocks and then put the top together. I could hope I'd get the fabric at least ironed?? And with luck, cut?? DH was rambling last night about going to NYC to meet up with a friend we've not seen in years, so I don't know. Still also have to catch up with another friend who's newest son's quilt has been done for months but we've not seen the friend to be able to gift it yet. The child might be in college by the time he gets his baby quilt!

Watson 03-18-2017 04:47 AM

I will be working on my "Pick Up Sticks" blocks. Not sure what I'm going to do with them, but I'm having fun making them!

And, if I get to the fabric store, I will pick up some brown fabric, (Can you believe I don't have ANY brown in my entire stash?!), so I can start a Spring wall hanging for work.

Going to finish a quilt top I started in a class I took at the Hampton
Va quilt festival. Then taking one of my sewing machines for a yearly checkup. It is my favorite one so I will miss it.

Onebyone 03-18-2017 05:13 AM

I'm doing quilt demo's at the state historical museum today. My quilt buddy and I will be making folded coasters using our featherweights.

dotcomdtcm 03-18-2017 05:20 AM

It's fun to read these posts. Quilting is a sisterhood. I know Lynnie is making bunnies. I am having a potholder day.
My gift stash is empty!

Jane Quilter 03-18-2017 05:39 AM

You don't need an excuse to go to the quilt store and buy fabric......you are among friends here.

Cam's gram 03-18-2017 05:45 AM

I'm working on the blocks for my Over the River and Through the woods quilt. Have had the embroidery done for a while. I did mine in dark blue.

Beehiveof9 03-18-2017 05:54 AM

I have two baby quilts I'm trying to finish. One is going to be machine quilted and bound, the other one is all done except for sewing the label on the back. I pinned it on last weekend, and still haven't gotten to it! IF I have time after that I'll be doing some hand quilting and/or piecing. It is a gray, cold winter day here, so kids and I are going to play some games and watch a movie. Dh is working. So, low-key day for us, but that is fine!

Have a great day!

Cam's gram 03-18-2017 07:34 AM

Ok - best laid plans. Call DDIL to see how my 17yo DGS was. Found out he was sick yesterday. He has the flu - flu shot not working this year. He wants some of Grandma's chicken noodle soup so guess what I'm doing after I went to the store! Made a batch Monday because DS was just getting better from the flu, DDIL and DGD had it plus DGD started out with strep throat. So this is batch #2 this week. Can we say indulgent Grandma?

carla m 03-18-2017 07:36 AM

im finishing up a retirement quilt, and hopefully working on a baby quilt too.

Sewed binding on 2 mug rugs, finished snowballing 30 blocks for an I Spy quilt. Got out a Christmas quilt I have been working on for 2 years hand quilting and rolled several balls of net for sunflower scrubbies. Not quilting but hey it works for me! Also laundry while hubby is off with his brothers making maple syrup. Nothing like Wisconsin maple syrup on pancakes. Yum!

lblank42 03-18-2017 11:32 AM

Finished cleaning, now I'm going to watch some of The Quilt Show offerings (Thanks, Tartan!) and then iron and cut fabric for my next quilt.

quilting cat 03-18-2017 11:39 AM

Carpooled to a large show yesterday (Friday), spent 7 hours on a charity quilt Thursday, and last Tuesday was Quilters at my church. I'm working on my latest challenge quilt today!

rryder 03-18-2017 02:24 PM

did a bunch of FMQ on an art quilt UFO that has a top made of Lutradur with a fabric collage behind that then the batting and backing. Once I'd finished the FMQ on the sandwich I used a heat gun to "lace" it. Lacing is a technique where you melt the Lutradur using heat. If you've stitched with cotton thread, then that holds the melted Lutradur in place producing a lacy effect. Now I'm letting it sit for a while so I can decide what more I need to do to it.

Tonight I'll do some handwork on another art piece that is a collaboration with a musician/artist friend. He painted and I've FMQ'd, now just needs some finishing touches and then binding. Will probably be working on that tomorrow too when some old winemaking friends come to visit.

Hopefully tomorrow morning before our visitors show up I can make a good start on an art piece that I'm doing with DH. He made a digital collage from a photo he took of a landscape and fish then printed it on fabric and I'm quilting and otherwise embellishing it.

Our quilt show was today and will be on tomorrow as well, when I'm doing a demo on joining the ends of the binding and also different ways to put anything on to finish the edge of your quilt. There are lots of ideas out there, but I'll have time for only a few. This was a good way to spend National Quilting Day.

QuiltnLady1 03-18-2017 06:25 PM

Sigh -- Windows Update messed up my machine, then a web site crashed as I was on it and Outlook started losing emails. Spent most of yesterday and today restoring the system. Now I'm beat - hope to do some organizing in the sewing room tomorrow.
