beautiful quilt, who needs cornerstones.
The problem is there is no pattern. My friend who showed me how to begin this didn't mention anything about getting a pattern....I just picked out a block I liked from a book (nine patch) and after I had made some of those I decided to make some four patches....and I decided to use sashing because my grandmothers quilt has it....lol.
Gorgeous as is!!
It's not called an error or mistake---it's creativity.
Looks great to me. Roxanne |
So who's to know but you that it was supposed to have cornerstones?!?! I don't add them when I quilt only because by that time I am just ready to be done and on to the next step (getting finished).
I love this quilt just as it is. I would leave it this way and go on to the next project.

Your quilt is very pretty and when I do something and then realize I didn't do it exactly as the pattern says-but it is OK I just decide that is my unique "take" on it. So I vote leave it alone-you can do cornerstones some other time. Good job!
Iit's beautiful! Finish it up and enjoy
I would leave it as is, nice quilt.
Personally...there aren't corner stones for each block..not sure why you need corner stones on the border. I think it looks "great" as is.
Perhaps if you make a nice quilt design in the sashing or where the cornerstones would have gone, it might give it a more complete look as if you intended to leave out the cornerstones. Look at it as an opportunity to be creative.
Looks ok the way it is. Look on the bright side, you just made your quilt an "original". Seriously it looks fine the way it is, if you absolutely want to take it apart to add the cornerstones, thats OK too, personally I would leave it.
Great job both on construction and color choice. I think you should leave it as is. No one will know there was suppose to be cornerstones. I always chalk it up to a great learning experience.
Sorry...but what is a cornerstone?
I agree with the others, leave it like it is, it is lovely.
A beginner?? My foot! You have created a beautiful quilt and done it with expertise. I would not add cornerstones. Maybe, if you are dissatisfied, I could suggest adding a small sash all around the outside of quilt in that deep purple and then bind with deep purple. That would tie everything together.
Great quilt as it is. Congrats. Hope to see more of your work. |
My daughter has often persuaded me that if I go back to "fix" something on a quilt top, I am more likely to ruin it. Sometimes I don't listen, but 99.9 percent of the time she has been right and in the "fix" at least damaged it. Your quilt is lovely. Don't risk ruining it. froggyintexas

Beautiful job, by the way. and remember that you don't have to always do it just as the book says. As you quilt more you'll see things that you like better (or less) than what the book calls for and it's OK to make those changes. for example, if you like the look you have here - leave the setting stones out. |

I added sashing, and now I realize I was supposed to add cornerstone to the sashing before attaching to block. Duh! So the whole top is pieced with sashing and no cornerblocks. I'll attach a pic so you can see. Can I still add cornerstones or would that be too bulky? |
You can add Cornerstones by using the Applique method. Do not take your fine work apart. Cut tiny squares with quarter-inch seams, which fit perfectly into your intersections. Then, turn under the seams, and hand-stitch them in place. Personally, I would not attempt to machine stitch them, as it would be tedious and boring for me, trying to wad and twist a big quilt up under my sewing machine. Applique is the Way! Good luck, and enjoy whatever you do.

strange question: What are cornerstones?
Looks perfect the way it is.. :-)
I agree about leaving it as it is and you cannot tell you are a beginner
Okay as a designer you just Morphed that quilt into your own! As others have said it looks Great just the way it is. Why mess with it! Try cornerstones on another quilt. This top is perfect just the way it is! JMHO ( just my humble opinion)!
For this quilt, I would leave it as it is - it's very pretty! Next quilt, you can add cornerstones. :)
I like it as it is. Cornerstones, to my mind, would make it a trifle too busy. This is sleek and modern, I like it. One of my GDs would adore it, she's into uncluttered designs.
Everything matches - looks great as is - I WOULD NOT take it apart at this stage of the game. Enjoy your first quilt l- there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.
I think it looks lovely just the way it is. Who knew the pattern called for cornerstones? Only you. I always say a quilt turns out the way it is supposed to and yours is great.
Very nice quilt, leave it as is. Many quilts out there without cornerstones and this happens to to one of them! Try some cornerstones on another quilt. Happy Quilting.
don't change a thing i love it !!!! i love the way you made it yor own by twisting the bottom right 4 patch. !!!!!!
great job keep up the beautiful work !!! |
You do great work for a beginner!
If you want to do something different, you can get fabric crayons (old paint) or markers and draw in your cornerstones... might be fun! Thanks for sharing- I love your quilt, it is very beautiful...
You did a great job. Yes it would be to bulky to add the corner stones. I think it looks great just the way it is
