I'm a total beginner and did everything going by a book.
I added sashing, and now I realize I was supposed to add cornerstone to the sashing before attaching to block. Duh! So the whole top is pieced with sashing and no cornerblocks. I'll attach a pic so you can see. Can I still add cornerstones or would that be too bulky? |
Sure, you can add them.
And you don't look like a beginner to me!! Wonderful work!!!!!!!!! :D:D OOPS- read this too fast. I think they would be bulky if you added them to the fabric already there. |
You would have to take it all apart to add the cornerstones to the sashing strips. This is beautiful as it is and if it was me I would not take this one apart, but try that technique on the next one. IMHO.

It looks good to me. I'd be way too lazy to rip it apart for cornerstones, but if you are great friends with the seam ripper and want cornerstones, go for it.
LOL I'm not taking anything apart!!!!!!!!
to stitch them in, you'd have to take everything apart, but you could applique cornerstones in on top of what you've already done...do something fun if you want - set them on point, or just put them in wonky to add some fun to the quilt. You could also applique completely different shapes.
Beautiful job, by the way. and remember that you don't have to always do it just as the book says. As you quilt more you'll see things that you like better (or less) than what the book calls for and it's OK to make those changes. for example, if you like the look you have here - leave the setting stones out. |
I think it is just beautiful. There is no "right" way really. If I do something "wrong" I figure I might change it next time but for this quilt that was the way I WANTED it to look. I have one in there on the bed now halfway put together, it's a little crooked, for a 6 year old who isn't going to see past the bright Care Bears on the fabric anyway so I'm proceeding, crooked and all. It's all a learning experience. Next time I will measure more carefully. You did a great job, it's just beautiful.
I agree with others, I like it like it is. Very nice, you are doing a good job.
Your quilt is lovely as it is. If you want the additional squares which will create a more overall Pattern you could appliqué the small squares at each corner. Lay them on and see what you think.
these moments of forgetfulness are what one of our local quiltmakers to call "design decisions"...no, really, I wanted it that way!
Yup, I would leave it alone. Putting in cornerstones now would be a big job. It is pretty like it is.
You could always applique them on but it's very pretty the way it is. If it were me, I'd leave it the way it is and keep my mouth shut. I'd never tell anyone that it was supposed to have cornerstones. No one will know anyway.
I think the way you did it looks great... the sashing looks like a weave.
I'd leave it as is. That is a beautiful design that gives a unique look that to my mind would be much less effective if you added the cornerstones. See now you're a designer right off the bat!!!
I think YOUR design is great. Think I will try it sometime!
The quilt looks great the way it is. Nice colors!
Leave it as is, it's a very nice quilt! You can do cornerstones on the next quilt!
I agree with the others. The quilt looks great as it is.
It is a beautiful quilt! Are you sure it is your first one???

You cannot improve on perfection and that quilt is perfect as it is
it looks great as is...corner stones are not a manditory addition, it worked out just fine without them. good job

First;there are no quilt police. In fact I like what you have done with your setting. Corner Stones can be used on your next one. This is too pretty to take apart. By the way- the setting you have used is usually a lot harder. Marvel
I think it is pretty as it is, therefore, I would not go back and add them. You don't want to add them on top.

Who would ever know the cornerstones aren't there? I sure wouldn't. I say it beautiful as it is.
It is pretty as is. Why don't you chalk this one off to experience and try corner stones on the next one. If you want to add something in place of corner stones, you could add an applique.
looks great as is!
It looks great. Just say it is your own design!
Looks great,I would leave it as it is,like others said "It's your design"
Looks just wonderful without the cornerstones, adding them now would make it bulky.
I think it is very nice just the way it is.
I would ask you this: do you want to put in cornerstones or not?
If yes, then would you consider making some kind of quilting or embroidery design where the cornerstones would be? Do you like to unsew? Is this a project you wanted to finish so you could do more? It is YOUR quilt ... so ... it is your choice. BTW, I love it. ali |
Ditto ditto ditto - it looks great! You did a really nice job getting everything lined up :)
I agree with the others - consider this an adaptation, your own take on the design. Enjoy, and on to the next project  |
Looks great without them
It took me a long time to realize it didn't have to be the way a pattern tells you. Now whenever I goof up I think of it as a guideline. Sometimes I even like mine better! Besides, I bet nobody will know the difference but you. It looks great to me.
If you TRULY want cornerstones, you could add them with LONG SOLID BORDERS down and across the edges, with cornerstones on the ends... ....MHO
