This coming Monday I am going to Mary Jo's with 2 girlfriends. We are so ready for this trip. In the past when i have been there with my DH we were either coming back from a trip or making a trip and had little time to shop. Its 430 miles from Florida but we have our movies, magazines and snacks. We will be there 3 yes THREE whole days to shop this fantastic store and also go to Long Creek Mills for threads. We have a BIG VAN and each of us have a long list. Let the fun begin.

The weather is beautiful here. Hope it stays that way. Clear skies and 60's-70's day,40's-50's night. Have a safe trip. KNOW you will have fun at MaryJo's.

The most important thing to remember- comfortable shoes!

Three days is smart, it'll take that long to see everything. Have fun!!

COYOTEMAGIC 10-07-2011 01:57 PM

Nobody believes me that people come from states away to shop at MaryJo's!!

There is a little sewing shop down in the shopping center with PetSmart, Kohls, it's called Sew Much Fun.Chilies and Applebee's are in the same area. Ruby Tuesday's across the road has good food from MaryJo's. Qdoba if you like Mexican is in the same shopping center. Outback is on New Hope Rd, one exit south ask for James as your servers, he's awesome. BBQ? Hillbillies, 2 exits north. Breakfast buffet-Golden Corral over on Franklin, fuel up for a day of shopping!!

Man you get to go with friends. I'm not allowed to go without my husband as a chaperone!!!

fidgety 10-07-2011 02:00 PM

Ok I am jealous!!!!!!!! I SOOOOOOO want to make that trip but it would have to be a couple days for me.... One to get there and one to recoup from it. Do they have shopping carts? On average what does their yardage cost??? I wanna go toooo!!!

sharon b 10-07-2011 02:06 PM

Oh Oh Oh-- Have fun  I was there last summer and it a blast as you know and 3 WHOLE days WOW

harvsstuff 10-07-2011 02:11 PM

Thanks for the heads up on restaurants etc. And no they dont have carts to help carry your stuff, but we are bringing those laundry carts or what some people call old lady carts that haul groceries etc. mary jo will give you a cart to use if you need it if say you need it to help you walk etc. She's very nice and accommodating. Three credit cards and my hidden stash I am so ready. Not sure about the cost of fabric I do know they have the most fabric I have ever seen and they are usually a little bit cheaper then quilt stores. Its the thrill of the adventure that calls us there.

Already in NC going to Mary Jo's Monday maybe we will meet! In Denver tonight going to Pottery show Saturday at Hilton Homeplace and a school nearby.

harvsstuff 10-07-2011 02:28 PM

Pat P we are leaving early Monday am and its about 9 - 10 hrs to get there. Not sure if we will make it Monday. If your there tuesday look for the 3 crazy women walking around muttering oh my God, oh my God! that would be us. We also have been known to shout Marco when one of us gets lost! Sometimes more then one person answers Polo!

Pat P 10-07-2011 02:33 PM

That is sooo funny! I may hold out for Tuesday. Will be wearing hot pink t. A friend and I back before cotton went out of sight bought about 400 dollars each and split the orders from Marshalls Dry Good, what a savings and the fabric was really nice. I am looking for blenders as I used all mine up. Even if we don't meet have a barrel of fun, gotta find someplace to deposit the DH while I shop!

psychonurse 10-07-2011 02:50 PM

I was there once when I lived in Fl. on our way back form somewhere.
Y'all will have a good time

ConcreteSher 10-07-2011 03:03 PM

As long as you're on a road trip, Mapquest "Schoolhouse Quilts." The address is 399 Sunset Memorial Road, Forest City, NC. (Phone: 828-245-9774) If this store is along your way, it's DEFINITELY worth a stop. I found it this summer on a South Carolina Shop Hop, and was pleasantly amazed! The selection was huge, and the prices were great. She had some wonderful sales.

Drop the DH off at Dick's Sporting Goods. It's in the same shopping center. I think the new Super Target just opened there too.

Xstitshmom 10-07-2011 06:23 PM

You will have a blast. I was there this past Tuesday with friends and it was wonderful as usual.

I think the highest I paid for fabric was $7.99 a yard.

jljack 10-07-2011 06:25 PM

Yay!! I got to go there 3 years ago on a trip to my daughter's, and it was wonderful!!

Monroe 10-07-2011 06:30 PM

I live in Florida. Take me with you.

I didn't know there were other people in Fla. that knew what a great place this is to go visit. It has been several years since I have been up there but I got to visit both places and had a ball. I hope you don't have to take out a loan before you return. Be careful and have a blast. 4js

No shopping carts. Average cost I paid was $6.00 a yard. Keep in mind you must request they cut your fabric. Otherwise they rip it and you a a jumble of fabric threads.

coachmatthewsvhs 10-08-2011 03:32 AM

OLE!!!! Let the good times roll..... Awaiting pics of your purchases!

mcdaniel023 10-08-2011 03:32 AM

And BATIKS and BATIKS and More BATIKS!!! I love Mary Jo's and the thread place too. One spool of thread lasts me a year, so I always buy at least 3 when I go so I don't ever run.

Have a ball...I know you will.

judi43 10-08-2011 03:42 AM

Sounds like we need to form a Caravan from Florida to Mary Jo's. OMG what fun that would be, better than a Quilt Show.

MamaHen 10-08-2011 03:48 AM

I'm in North Florida, I want to go Tooooooooooooo!

QuiltingGrannie 10-08-2011 03:48 AM

OH, how I wish I could go again! DH and I went once and it was awesome. I can't go without a list of what I need/want otherwise it overwhelms me.
When the sales lady ripped the fabric my DH almost panicked. He'd never seen or heard of that being done! I had to laugh.

Oh, and for the lady who said she would be the one saying OMG --- it's a common phrase heard there! I spent 30 - 45 minutes just looking at all the notions BEFORE I looked at all the fabric! And the buttons....

Have fun!

Lucky you have a great time

ka9sdn 10-08-2011 04:15 AM

OK I'm odd man out. Who or what and where is Mary Jo's? Always looking for something new.

ncredbird 10-08-2011 04:19 AM

They come from other states and other countries! I have met people from France, Japan, China, and Australia while shopping there. I don't know if it is their end destination or simply a side trip with a larger purpose. Often see them there in conjunction with the time frame of the Paducah quilt show which is a few states away. harvsstuff 10-08-2011 04:26 AM

Mary Jo's is a very large fabric store in Gastonia NC. She has hundreds of fabric for quilting, weddings, upholstering, you name it they have it. It also has accessories, buttons, zippers, lace etc. Her prices are excellant. Her selection is huge. Want birds, well they might be broken down into small birds, large birds, birds from the north, west ,south etc. you get the idea. You have died and gone to heaven at this place. You need at least a full day to shop its awesome.

YolandaW 10-08-2011 04:30 AM

My SO doesn't know it but we have a trip planned the end of the month and we are stopping by MJ's. I don't know what in the world I am going to do with him during that time though. Usually he likes to stick to me like glue but gets really annoying in the craft store. I feel like I am being rushed. Luckily I live about 3 hours away. I guess I should plan an overnite trip there sometime with my sis.

merchjag 10-08-2011 04:35 AM

been there!!Oh take me with you !!!

katkat1946 10-08-2011 04:57 AM

MaryJo's is a must visit for me whenever I visit my son & family in NC. And it's only about 30 minutes away. Have never yet made it to the thread place. Please fill us in about that stop. Have a great, great time.

BettyM 10-08-2011 05:17 AM

Enjoy! That's a great store!

Phannie1 10-08-2011 05:21 AM

I got to go there in July. It was so much fun. I had my husband with me and he helped pick out fabric. I plan another trip soon. ENJOY your visit and think of us who can't be there.

MS quilter 10-08-2011 05:23 AM
