we never lost our fabric dept per se. It was downsized quite a bit. We have always had our cutting table. Last time I visited looked like they had expanded the aisle. I asked the woman on duty if they would be bringing fabrics back. She said they are suppose to either the end of the year or beginning of next. I went back in the store a week ago. They had a shelf in the middle of the aisle with some fabric. Looked to be old stuff and nothing I would use for quilting. Guess I will just wait for a few months and check back again

jaciqltznok 09-21-2011 06:15 AM

yes, but sadly it is a tiny spot with really terrible fabric. Even my 20yo son held it up and said " geez mom you can see through BOTH layers of this one"!! SAD...

Cindysue2 09-21-2011 06:18 AM

But it is good when you need thread or something basic. I really don't purchase alot of fabric but they are there when in a hurry and everything else is closed!

ROFL ROFL ROFL....

just last evening... I was walking in (in my office clothes, after work...NO QUILT POOP on me!!!) to pick up Rx. The greeter was very cheerful & said "Do you sew a lot?" I said "How can you tell?" She said we have our fabric back & gave me the flyer.

Even tho it was a quick trip in, I was due at the mechanic's, I went & looked.

ROFL

They are just told what is going to show up. Their fabric is very loose weave, made in China, and not pretty at all. So depressing that a big company like that with such a BIG clientele (US), does not get it. I am giving up on them and let them quit selling fabric if they are going to sell junk. :(

I totally agree and understand how you feel. BUT WM is not there to please the masses..they are there to make $$$. THe majority of WM customers can not afford to go to the LQS or buy good quality fabric. SO, WM has its own niche in the sewing/crafting world and this is fine. I do not have to buy their fabric for my GOOD projects there are plenty of other venues for that. BUT many have no other resource and WM is there for them.

At times in the past WM had decent fabric that was great for home dec items, gift bags, crafting, etc. But what they have HERE in our local WM now is not even worthy of that!

sweetpea 09-21-2011 06:34 AM

they are tall me ours in Parsons KS will NOT be getting it back. hope the change they minds.

Caswews 09-21-2011 06:36 AM

I was so thrilled when I found out Wally had their fabric back in one of the Wally's here. Material is ok, haven't really gone into buy some yet.. Then Jo-Ann's is reopening here in November !wooohooo !!

Anna O 09-21-2011 06:47 AM

Walmart heard our cry and listened!

mimee4 09-21-2011 07:02 AM

Ours has so much fabric they don't know where to put it all. Hooray!

jellybeans 09-21-2011 07:11 AM

I just bought 8 yards at Wal-Mart yesterday. The lady cutting it screwed up and when I got to the checkout that's when I found out. They tried to fix it and did very nicely.
They gave me 8 yds. of fabric ($29) and a $10 gift card. So my eight yards cost me $19. WHHHHHHAAAAAAA HOOOOOOO

gramquilter2 09-21-2011 08:32 AM

None in our area yet.

Glenda m 09-21-2011 10:30 AM

Our WM is supposed to get it's fabric department back when they do the remodel....IN TWO YEARS!! BOO..HISS

penski 09-21-2011 10:41 AM

our store brought it back but there are only about 10 bolts of nasty looking fabric and it is a silky fabric !! woopy

nyelphaba 09-21-2011 10:45 AM

None at my WM.

Barbshobbies 09-21-2011 10:54 AM

Jacigltznok said it best, WM is after $$$. I`m going to give them a chance. They brought it back after many complaints, but only for about 2 weeks, now it`s gone again. They put their customers out a lot when they remodeled this store to make it a Super WM. and now tell us we have to put up with out any straight aisles, looking for ever for every thing, and now tell us it`s just a small super WM with no consideration for quilters. I won`t go back now, I have lots of time to wait it out, as when I did go there, there were very few customers in the store.

Ricki 09-21-2011 11:16 AM

Our has what looks like leftover material that's been stored somewhere. Prices are higher. Waiting for new stock to come in.

TX GMimi 09-21-2011 11:24 AM

an ad in the Austin, TX newspaper last Sunday said fabric was coming back to the stores...haven't checked it out though.

auniqueview 09-21-2011 11:41 AM

The one I usually go to have a limited amount of fabric, not much of anything that I would buy. A real shame, because they used to have a nice fabric dept. I was in a different one Monday, because I had to go get car tags, and they had more material, but it took forever for someone to come over and help the person who was waiting for service. I looked over the material, but didn't see anything I wanted to buy. I bought bobbins, lol. Too bad all those bobbins I got with my estate sale purchase don't work for my machine.

grannypat7925 09-21-2011 11:52 AM

Checked out our Walmarts today. One has lots of fabric and nice quality stuff reasonably priced, the other has none.........yet. The fabric cutter at the one where the fabric was says they were told all Walmarts will have fabric back eventually. I was really surprised at the nice quality and prices from $2.97 to $5.99 per yd. Had some really beautiful fall bolts!

SunlitenSmiles 09-21-2011 11:56 AM

still no walmart here----but , (it is rumored )they did buy land and an empty store----no Joannes either but really nice LQS in towns to the north, east and west

Next time you go, watch how they do it. I now just cut my own and price it. Works great and no one has ever complained.

Sunnye 09-21-2011 12:32 PM

I've called or gone to the three closest ones to me and nothing!

collady 09-21-2011 12:41 PM

Batesville AR store has it back. Not much selection yet, but I was told more will be coming.

Jammin' Jane 09-21-2011 12:46 PM

My Walmart has gotten a little bit in, but it's so unorganized. the choices are poor and the quality is really shabby! I was disappointed when I saw what they did! :(
So I am going to JoAnn's tonight!! :)

Dretha 09-21-2011 01:32 PM

All the Walmarts around me had taken fabric out and all that I have been to have put it back in. Everytime I go to Walmart they seem to be adding more and more. Just hope they keep getting better and better.

I am in Iowa

aronel 09-21-2011 02:12 PM

It is back in Council Bluffs, Iowa!! Doing the happy dance!

coaldigger 09-21-2011 03:01 PM

rvsfan 09-21-2011 03:23 PM

One kinda near me has their's back. Another one real near me doesn't have any and say the won't.

MargeD 09-21-2011 04:41 PM

Unfortunately, neither of the 2 Wal-Marts near me have fabric back, just a few precuts in one and nothing in the other. I wish they would get it back though.

No fabric in the super walmart in Traverse City. I have to wait until I get back the Mission Texas to buy fabric.

Nettie Phillips 09-21-2011 05:26 PM

No, I went yesterday and they didn't have it yet but didn't say
when they would get it. We had another ad in the paper today
that it was coming back.

sosewbusy 09-21-2011 06:13 PM

I bought fabric in Walmart today in Tucson and asked if others would have it soon. I was told that 2,000 more stores were getting back in soon. She had just gotten the email. 9-21-2011

barb55 09-21-2011 06:27 PM

My Wal-Mart has always had fabric and there're getting more in, but it is so cheap, you can count the threads. The old stuff they still have is better fabric. I would be careful to look for flaws. they don't have color coronate, so if you a pice there you well have else ware to go to find something to coronate with it.

Yes. More is coming in every day. It is not displayed nicely as it was before we lost it, but it is there in abundance. I am in NTexas, 60 miles north of Dallas. froggyintexas

Ours does, if you want to call it fabric, very poor quality and not much of it.

I went in an checked it out.. Very disappointing, its alot for hard and thin fabric... but they did have notions and will price match
