I actually purchased one for scrapbooking, and now figured out it can also be used for fabric. The only nice thing about them is the precision cut of shapes. Not really worth the money, I sometimes wish I hadn't purchased mine.

Acuquilt has started daily deals to encourage customers to buy sets. That may be the way to go.
Also sometimes you can find sales at JoAnns or the like. I use my for applique for children's quilts, bibs etc. Yes you have to make a lot to justify the price, but you can cut multiples. |
I have a different brand - but I can advise that these machines are fun to use and the shapes always come out the same size and quickly, so your quilt gets done accurately and without too much frustration.

one of my friends who teaches quilting and has for yeatrs, says she has seen a lot of fabric waste unless you are just cutting strips
|
It is true. A big waste of fabric. I use the leavings for stamps and in string quilts.
|
I've been learning slowly some ways you turn & sometimes you cut your fabric first and you have less waste.
|
I have the Accuquilt GO and love it. Cutting the fabric using the dies is so much faster and more precise than I ever was using a ruler and rotary cutter.
|
I love mine for the 2-1/2 strips I just love jelly rolls
now I can make my own, |
I wonder how QuicKutz and Stampin'Up Big shot cutters would work. As the dies are generally smaller, I think I'd fuse a light web on the back before cutting.
Anyone have experience with this? j. |
I got the Sizzix that is virtually the same thing and did it because I just wanted to. It was cheaper than the Accuquilt Go and I got a really good discount at Houston Quilt Festival in Nov. 50% off and then 20% for the show special so could not turn that down. Cut 2" sashing for 4 quilts in about 10 minutes. Am just getting the rest of the dye that I ordered. If you wanted to use them for applique, they have a discount site that has things at dirt cheap. Things that are normally 7-10 for 1.50 & stuff for .99. Anyone can order from that site without a minimum. Give them a look-see.
